Ricky Gervais. Searingly honest??

Been watching snippets of the Golden Globes tonight. Ricky appeared to be tearing into the audience, few were spared. Was it honest, or just for laughs?

Not a huge fan of his but loved his speech.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 07/01/2020 14:34

I like him; he rips the piss out of everyone, including himself. Anyone who can laugh as loudly at themselves as at others is alright.

After Life is genuinely brilliant. Penelope Wilton and RG are incredible together.

Samcro · 07/01/2020 14:41

the guys a wanker. I still remember him arguing about his right to use the word m*

billy1966 · 07/01/2020 15:00

I found it funny and for me it is the only part I've watched of the GG's over the past five years.

I find award ceremonies to be beyond dull.

unbaffled · 07/01/2020 15:55

I can't stand the man.

blacksax · 07/01/2020 15:56

Searingly honest = obnoxious prick

SanAntonio · 07/01/2020 16:03

Not a nice man. Had the misfortune to observe him in real life.

Mrsjayy · 07/01/2020 16:08

The organisers know who they are employing it makes a smug awards show look "edgy" he was funny though Tom hanks looked like he was chewing a wasp, but it is all back slapping nonsense isn' t it ?

Saucery · 07/01/2020 16:12

I thought it showed how far we still have to go - joke about an actor’s young girlfriends/ hypocrisy of slebs and no one there really gives a shit, because they all accept it and nothing is going to change.

Mrsjayy · 07/01/2020 16:15

I think that is his point Saucery .

nowaypose · 07/01/2020 16:21

Absolutely hilarious.

MarshaBradyo · 07/01/2020 16:24

Just listened. I went off him for a while but that was quite funny. Actors awards are fairly annoying so it wasn’t too off.

Janaih · 07/01/2020 16:25

RG said of Susan Boyle "it's a mong, isn't it?"

Nasty man. The evangelical atheism gets on my tits too. As frankie boyle put it "I don't need RG to tell me theres no god... I've seen series 2 of Derek" Grin

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 07/01/2020 16:30

I love him! Fantastic speech and was so impressed when he told them not to use their winning as a platform. He is absolutely right on with that one and I think the man has balls of steel putting these idiots back in their boxes. They've probably been surrounded by yes-men, blowing smoke up their arses for years, so it's great to see Ricky taking them down a peg or two. Great British humour at its best. Pure sarcasm and wit.

BumbleBeee69 · 07/01/2020 16:46

He's so CRINGE... not funny atall .. you just know he was licking every celebs ARSE at the after shows...

EuphorbiaHemlockthe1st · 07/01/2020 16:52

Absolutely brilliant! They are so up their own arses in the movie world.
As the camera pans round many of the men are stoney faced - haha, don't think they can deal with a bloke like Ricky taking the mick. I wonder who helps him write it - it was very good, but his presentation was spot on. Good on him.
I don't believe him when he says it's his last time. Who wants to have to follow that?

Waterandlemonjuice · 07/01/2020 16:58

I love him. He DGAF 👍🏻

Genderwitched · 07/01/2020 17:02

I'm not a fan either, and i'm quite prepared to believe that he isn't a very pleasant man, however I watched that with my mouth open. Best thing i've seen in a while!

Insaneinthemembury · 07/01/2020 17:11

Loved it. Howling at the Leo DiCaprio joke. To be fair his girlfriend is 22. Gervais has a point!
I do think they're in a bubble where they're worshipped and surrounded by yes men. 50 year old men going out with 20 year olds is normal in their world.
They need someone like Gervais to come in and give them some home truths!

Mrsjayy · 07/01/2020 17:12

His atheisim gets on my wick too i am not a fan but I did find his GG presenting funny but American slebs love a "roasting" so they lapped it up well maybe not Tom Hanks Grin

BumbleBeee69 · 07/01/2020 17:16

The 'roasting' isn't new.. it's dated... that's what made it cringing to watch...

SinkGirl · 07/01/2020 17:21

It wasn’t shocking, or particularly funny - it was just lazy, easy shite. Like pretty much everything he’s done since Extras (including the dire series of his he plugged in his intro).

Bring back Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. At least they are actually funny.

justasking111 · 07/01/2020 17:23

The crack at Justin Bieber had me google searching.

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 07/01/2020 17:28

Amy Poelher is really not funny I don't get her at all Tina fey I like though.

Inkanta · 07/01/2020 18:06

Yes loved his truth and honesty, and very funny with it. Apparently he has a degree in Philosophy so he's not daft - knows a thing or too about logic, critical thought and thinking patterns. Cuts through the bull.
