Can't promise that I will exercise every day or eat healthy every day but I am going to try and be mindful of what I eat and try to be more active.

I'm 16 stone 5.5 lb, size 18/20 and am 5'.4"

Must remember that slow and steady wins the race.

Second week completed! 3lb loss this week.

How are you all doing?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 10/02/2020 08:26

Well done everyone.

Another 1kg (2lb) for me. So I’ve lost my first stone.

I’ve started very gently building up my exercise this week. I am giving myself a 4 week gradual build up rather than just jumping in. I am 50 and I don’t think I will get away with a Gung Ho approach.

GetTheStartyParted · 10/02/2020 09:08

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude what a lovely milestone. Well done.

What exercise are you planning to do? I'm getting a membership for my leisure centre as I am now a mature student and can get it at a very good rate. I plan on swimming a couple of times a week to start with. I have never even set foot in a gym and feel scared to. I think I need to conquer this fear though, any advice?

Yay @GetTheStartyParted and @ChazsBrilliantAttitude Congratulations on your losses! Star I weigh tomorrow.
For exercise I've bought a manual treadmill. It's still in it's packaging downstairs. :D lol My excuse is I've borrowed my brothers carpet cleaner and need to wash the carpets first. That'll be a work out in itself! Grin
Hope everyone is doing OK?

73kittycat73 · 10/02/2020 12:51

@GetTheStartyParted sorry, ment to add about the gym. Could you book one session with a personal trainer and get them to show you around the equipment? Or perhaps a member of staff could show you? Or even, do you have a friend you could go with and check it out?

GetTheStartyParted · 10/02/2020 14:43

Cleaning carpets is definitely a workout Grin
We have a home gym but it's all weight based as they have activities that fulfil the cardio side. Perhaps I should do a little in there though?
Thanks, that's good advice, they do offer inductions I think but I'm not feeling brave enough yet. Perhaps when I'm a little slimmer and fitter, from swimming miles!
Good luck for your weigh in.

aibutohavethisusername · 10/02/2020 20:42

I’ve lost 2.5lbs this week. Pleased with that. I really hope I can get to the next stone bracket down next week.

73kittycat73 · 10/02/2020 22:53

Thank you @GetTheStartyParted. Smile Good luck with the swimming. You could hire a PT for one session at home, to give you some pointers on what you should be doing? I totally understand not though! Grin (I hate exercise! Don't get this endorphin rush people talk about.)
@aibutohavethisusername congrats on the weight loss! Star Good luck with your goals. I'm hoping to be in a lower bracket tomorrow too.

73kittycat73 · 11/02/2020 12:08

Lost 6lbs. Smile Am now going on 5:2 so weight will be slower coming off, but I can't stand any more vegetables! lol I've been trying lots of new foods/veg, but I can't stomach any more atm. (Just want a plate of chips, or a jacket potato. normal (For me) food lol Anyway, lost 1/2 an inch from my waist, 3" (! woo-hoo!) from my hips and an inch off the bust.

GetTheStartyParted · 11/02/2020 13:48

Well done. Glad everyone is making progress. The inches off your waist, hips etc is brilliant. Wish I'd measured mine.

My work best friend said out of the blue today that she wants to join the gym so I'm trying to sway her to join the same one as me Grin She's 15 years older than me and has taken me under her wing so she'd sort me out!

Hope you find the 5:2 good for you @73kittycat73 It's all about finding what works. I'm having to cut down on the portions advised in the meal plan as amazingly, I find it too much food. I never thought I'd be able to say that!

I miss chips and crisps but I'm not craving them, I honestly don't feel hungry inbetween meals now, it's bizarre.

Keep plodding on everyone Smile

73kittycat73 · 16/02/2020 13:47

How's things going GetTheStartyParted ? Have you taken the leap and joined the gym? I bought a manual treadmill. It's like ice skating! lol I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon. I also have a confession. I had been doing well, the last night scoffed TWO chocolate bars. Blush It's my first slip up though so I'm not beating myself up about it (That and I've only got the horrible tasting choc left so not likely to repeat it! Grin )

GetTheStartyParted · 17/02/2020 08:14

I finally joined yesterday! Not sure when I'll go to the gym yet Blush but swam a kilometre. Plan do do that 2-3 times a week.

Ha, I'm imagining you like Bambi on a treadmill now, I'm sure you'll soon be running successfully. Oops, to the chocolate. Best advice I've seen is to just hop right back into eating well instead of thinking you've ruined it. Everyone deserves the odd treat.

My challenge is this week, half term with the kids, a work meal out on Friday and a boozy birthday party on Saturday. Hoping to do ok.

This week's loss, a modest 2lb. It's TOTM though so happy enough with that. 15lb in 3 weeks.

GetTheStartyParted · 17/02/2020 09:38

When I finally got out of bed and weighed myself, I have actually lost another pound - I had weighed myself yesterday so didn't think I would. So it's 3lb this week and 16lb total!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/02/2020 10:05

Hi all

I am exercising at home. My DS’s are very sporty so I am following a beginners training programme in one of their books. However, I am sooooo unfit I have had to gradually build up by repeating week 1. First week I did 1/4 of the sets of reps, this week I am doing half.
It’s 3 short HIIT sessions and 2 body weight strength sessions a week.

First time I did the plank it was one of the longest 20 seconds of my life!

I’ve lost again this week so I’ve dropped 8kg (17lb) so far. (I weigh in Kg because it doesn’t have the same psychological baggage as weighing in Imperial for some reason).

I feel like I have a small window of opportunity to sort my weight and fitness before the full effects of the menopause hit (I’m 50). I want to build up to using weights keep my bones strong.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/02/2020 10:13

BTW

Well done to everyone who is sticking with it. Research has shown that when you are very overweight (like me!) losing as little as 5% of your bodyweight makes a measurable difference to your health. So every pound counts.

GetTheStartyParted · 17/02/2020 10:51

Well done, that's great. The exercise plan sounds challenging, adapting it to suit you is a great idea.

I still have a long way to go but realised that I finally weigh under 200lbs, it's been a long time. I want to lose 60 more though Confused so it's going to take a while.

I like your research findings, 5% making a difference makes it feel worthwhile along the way rather than feeling miles away from the end goal.

GetTheStartyParted · 19/02/2020 15:14

Swimming during half term is not fun! I took my DS with me so at least he enjoyed himself and I did what I could, dodging the children diving in at the deep and and the younger ones in the shallow end with their parents. Also had to avoid flying floats 😂

Big thank you to @ChazsBrilliantAttitude for the 5% fact. I was intrigued so worked mine out and I've lost 7.5% already! Really cheered me up.

Geekster1963 · 19/02/2020 16:45

Yes slow and steady wins the race. It took me almost three years to lose the weight I wanted too, but I got there in the end. Just keep going and do the best you can.

aibutohavethisusername · 19/02/2020 19:11

I lost 4.4lbs this week (2kg) so around 7lbs in two weeks. Happy because I got down to the next stone bracket.

GetTheStartyParted · 21/02/2020 16:07

Thanks @Geekster1963 , always good to remember it will take time. I know it will take ages. Just want to be a lot slimmer by the time we go on holiday.

Well done @aibutohavethisusername love hitting the next stone bracket. Its a great boost!

3 meals out so far this week, all on plan so far so hoping it's not too bad. 1 more meal out tonight and a party tomorrow. Really hope I survive this week unscathed! Confused

GetTheStartyParted · 24/02/2020 08:01

Week 4 complete. Half term survived, a 2lb loss.

Kids back to school today so no meals out and no parties planned this week! Pleased I stuck to my plan throughout, it's progress.

How are you all doing?

GetTheStartyParted · 02/03/2020 08:33

Anyone still out there? Grin I hope you're all doing ok.

2lb loss this week so 20lb in 5 weeks. Comfortably down a dress size and other people have started noticing now. Feeling good. Only around 5 stone to go Blush

aibutohavethisusername · 02/03/2020 09:01

Wow well done. That’s brilliant.

I’ll weigh tomorrow as I can’t make the course tonight.

ActualHornist · 02/03/2020 09:54

I match your start weight and height to within half an inch and half a pound, I’ve started a diet today.

GetTheStartyParted · 02/03/2020 11:21

Thank you @aibutohavethisusername It's the lightest I've been in years.
Good luck for your weigh in.

Good luck @ActualHornist
What diet plan are you following? I hope it goes well for you.
