I have completed couch to 5k in the past
I have given up on running in the past
I have tried and failed in the past

But I have a plan for 2020

I am going to run/jog a mile a day for the year.

I know some days I will be knackered and fail but if I do I will do more the next day to make up for it.

Anyone like to join me ?

Managed nearly 3 km walking but recovering from chest infection so got a bit puffed out towards the end and had to slow down .. hmmm maybe I need to build up to a faster pace ....

circleorsquare · 04/01/2020 14:36

Had a headache so did a 2 mile walk instead of a 1 mile run!

milliefiori · 04/01/2020 14:42

Please can I join you?

I walked 2.5 miles on NYD.
Didn't manage a walk on 2nd but hope the 2 miles on NYD can be carried over. Grin
Yesterday - walked up the hill with DS and DH - about 1.5-2 miles.
Today - did a loop walk around teh village with DH - about 1.5 miles.

I have plantar fasciitis at the moment which is really painful so can't run or jog. Shouldn't really walk much either, but it's so sunny and I want to make the most of it.

Went for a 1.7 family walk in the country, lots of hilly patches. Really starting to enjoy getting out each day.

Love how achievable this challenge is! Well done everyone so far too!

lilgreen · 04/01/2020 17:27

Out walking for an hour this afternoon with dog and DH. Cheeks a-glowing nicely.

lilgreen · 04/01/2020 17:31

@milliefiori and others I’ve just remembered that when I started walking after getting our dog, I did suffer with my feet , in particular one heel pad . It was a hot summer and I was wearing flat sandals stupidly. Anyway, come the autumn I treated myself to a pair of walking boots and haven’t looked back as they’re so cushioned, warm and waterproof that I really can walk anywhere without feeling it.

Egghead68 · 04/01/2020 18:19

Jogged 3km @ 9.2kph, hillwalked 2km @ 6kph and walked another 3 miles round town.

chocciechocface · 04/01/2020 18:49

I'd love to join you all. I desperately need to start getting exercise, and just as importantly exposure to light to try help with mood and sleep.

KnightandDay · 04/01/2020 20:33

Day 4 done and dusted! 2.05km in 21.53 mins, I'm really not a runner but tried to jog for a count of 30 every so often.

DebbieFiderer · 05/01/2020 08:16

7000 steps done since midnight, I think I'm justfied in taking a rest day today!

MajesticWhine · 05/01/2020 10:52

Days 1-4 done but feeling weak today. I woke up at 10, feeling very lazy and a bit creaky. I'm going to do some stretching first and see if I can manage a run.

Newyearnewarse · 05/01/2020 10:55

2.5 miles done
This is really helping to get me put every day , I always thought there was no point unless I was going to cover at least 5k so that meant I rarely bothered as it all felt too much.
A mile is so achievable and 9 times out of 10 once I am out I do a little bit more.

Back at work tomorrow and I know things will be trickier but I feel determined to keep going.

2 miles of jog/walking in the woods today. I can definitely see a difference in my mood/stress levels since starting this challenge.

lilgreen · 05/01/2020 12:25

The benefit to your mood and mental health is equal I think to the benefit physically. The times I’ve gone out and pounded the streets with my furry friend having had a bad day, argument, stress with kids etc and I always come home feeling better.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/01/2020 12:36

I'm mixed on the mental health thing. If I'm just in a normal mood it definitely lifts me up, but if I'm having a bit of an anxious phase it can make it worse as I'm prone to overthinking while I walk/run/swim, I need to find tasks that really need concentrating on to distract me. Or brush up on mindfulness.

lilgreen · 05/01/2020 12:42

I know what you mean but sometimes just exhausting myself and my mind seems to calm me at times.

WeirdPookah · 05/01/2020 12:57

2 miles on the bleak but brisk cliffs cleared my hormonal headache a bit thankfully today.

KnightandDay · 05/01/2020 13:01

3.4km today, 37 mins
Feels good to get it done early!

circleorsquare · 05/01/2020 14:04

Just the 1 mile today as pushed for time! Trying to keep momentum going!

Egghead68 · 05/01/2020 18:03

Ran 3km, hill walked 1km.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/01/2020 18:19

Another cycling day for me today, not sure of distance (few miles) but it got my heartrate up.

EastofEdna · 05/01/2020 19:20

did a mile on the treadmill and then out on the bike later. Unfortunately I went over the handlebars of the bike (ouch!) and am now stiffening up - time for a long hot bath!

didireallysaythat · 05/01/2020 19:38

I did my first c25k run tonight. Go me!

Egghead68 · 05/01/2020 21:02

Oh no @Eastofedna. I wish you a speedy recovery.

WeirdPookah · 06/01/2020 13:10

Just over a mile today, bit shorter as we didn't want our little one worn out before karate starts back tonight.
