Why do 'nail tech' adverts show gaps at the bottom of the nail?

OK, humour me, I'm full of cold and I'm bored so I've been looking through Facebook marketplace at all the nail tech ads. So many are just awful, but the thing that really gets me is, why do they leave such a big obvious gap at the bottom of the nail? Surely it just looks rubbish?
(You may well ask why do I care, I don't really I'm just curious Grin)

Thats what makes you think the initial photos are several weeks old, the huge gap at the bottom!

Yes I see what you mean, if you started with that big gap, when your nail grows it will be huge! I assume these pics are freshly done, very odd.

I’m getting my full-on festive Christmas nails on Saturday. Can’t wait!

thinkfast · 18/12/2019 22:03

I got mine done today and they've chipped this evening! Will have to find time in my lunch break tomorrow to go back Angry

HeatedDryer · 18/12/2019 22:09

Ooh flowery can you post a pic when they're done?

I’ve always assumed they leave the gap so that your nails don’t last as long and they get more business.

thinkfast now that is annoying, surely if done properly they shouldn't chip? Hope you get it sorted.

Yeah they are now except 2 that I broke. Started off with extensions but I do an acrylic overlay for strength because my natural nails suck. I do sometimes file away my nail underneath because I don't like the look of it or if I've stained them with cooking or hair dye lol.

cookie thank you for your wisdom this evening, very much appreciated SmileSmileSmile

Earlier today. They never normally chip from this place. In fact when I said "see you New Year's Eve" the technician said these will still be good by then.

They give a 14 day guarantee ie will repair them for free if any chips appear within 14 days and never had to use that before. They've always lasted so well. It's just a pain to go back when I'm so busy at work before Christmas.

Flowery yours look great for 2 weeks old. Are they shellac or sns?

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 19/12/2019 06:29

Thinkfast rhose are pretty. And no gap!

ElizabethMainwaring · 19/12/2019 06:36

Hello thinkfast. Your nails look gorgeous and so glossy. Can you tell me which brand of gel your nail tech uses please?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/12/2019 06:41

Not my current set but my last set.

I never have a gap between them. My nail tech is brilliant and my nails always look beautiful.

”Flowery yours look great for 2 weeks old. Are they shellac or sns?”

They’re gel overlays Smile

fascinated · 19/12/2019 10:30

Can I just ask - are these not people’s own nails then? Can you make your nails longer using these? I’ve only ever had my real nails done in subtle colours, as they are so short, to stop me biting. Are you saying I could instantly have long nails?

flowery · 19/12/2019 10:32

Mine are gel overlays on top of my own nails. Yes they could easily extend beyond my own nail, so I could have very long nails with the product my nail tech uses. I just choose not to Smile

fascinated · 19/12/2019 10:32

I must know this now... ! (Sorry!)

fascinated · 19/12/2019 10:33

How do I not know this?!

fascinated · 19/12/2019 10:33

Thx flowery!!
