Why do 'nail tech' adverts show gaps at the bottom of the nail?

OK, humour me, I'm full of cold and I'm bored so I've been looking through Facebook marketplace at all the nail tech ads. So many are just awful, but the thing that really gets me is, why do they leave such a big obvious gap at the bottom of the nail? Surely it just looks rubbish?
(You may well ask why do I care, I don't really I'm just curious Grin)

I know a few people who go
to get them ‘done’ occasionally, but only with one colour.

It's a London thing for sure. All the women where I work have gel nails at all times. And the last place I worked, in the London HO but not in the regions as much.

I paint mine myself, I can't imagine how people find the time to get them done, let alone afford it (I can afford it but I just don't value it enough to spend money on).

Urgh I hate that hand they do to show pics especially when they’ve managed to get their Audi/Merc badge in on their steering wheel Envy (not envy)

It’s not a London thing. I live in Cambridgeshire. I never got my nails done when I lived in London.

Nearly everyone I work with has their nails done for at least some of the year if not all the time. I don’t work or live anywhere near London. I could never go back now I’ve started getting them done. I love the look and feel of them.

VanGoghsDog · 20/12/2019 23:40

I didn't mean it was exclusively a London thing, I was replying to the person asking if it's regional. It's very prevalent in London but I do work in the city and people behave oddly, what with fake eyelashes, dyed hair, skyscraper heels.
I pad around in flat loafers, self painted nails and a boring bob.
But obviously not everyone in London has them done all the time. But I've definitely noticed it way more in London.
In my walking group not far from Cambs, I can only think of a couple of women who pretty well always have them done. Most don't paint their nails at all.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/12/2019 07:04

I assumed it would be less so in London bizarrely. I associate it in my head with more of retail workers or front facing staff that like/need to look "done" rather than professional staff.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 21/12/2019 07:05

In my head Id imagine thw type of people who belong tk a walking group wouldnt be the type to have their nails done. Its amazing what stereotypes you hold without realising though isnt it!!

@VanGoghsDog it's really not expensive or time consuming. I get mine done every 4 weeks, infills cost £15. Takes one hour out of the day. Confused

WhoisitnowRalph · 21/12/2019 07:23

Just to join the nail party - I started doing my own gel nails 2 years ago. I paid out about £250 for all the gear/equipment and a load of gel polish, so it paid for itself in less than a year (I'd been paying £25 a month to get mine done for about 8 years before that).

I only do my own because I'm not qualified, wouldn't dream of touching someone elses, but I've watched hundreds of you tube tutorials and made hundreds of mistakes. I had weak bendy nails and short gel overlays for years, now I can extend them to be a bit longer and they rarely break or lift because I can spend time getting them right Smile. It's a hobby really.

Aw, there's no need to be confused. It's £35 where I live and as I live in a village it's half an hour to get anywhere that does it, so two hours altogether. Whenever I've had it done it's needed removing after two weeks (gel polish, so no infills). I cannot abide the gap at the bottom.

I like to change my colour twice a week anyway, I'd be bored with the same colour for weeks on end.

I asked someone at work and she said her nail tech comes to her house at nine pm. I honestly don't know how people can be bothered.

These are mine just finished. Hoping I don't have to fix them due to a last minute client/family/friend request.
