Lily Allen

She's closed down her Twitter account apparently, saying the Tories won the election because of racism and mysogeny.

She's in denial, so far removed from ordinary life that she hasn't a clue how most ordinary people think. Nothing to do with racism. We had decided we wanted to leave Europe and resented being told we were stupid, uneducated, ill informed etc etc. Every attempt to get the deal approved was thwarted by a Parliament who thought they knew better than we did. And Corbyn is much too far left for most people.

Silly Lily needs to go back to what she does best - singing - and stop trying to interfere in things she doesn't understand.

She has every right to close down her Twitter and feel disappointed.
She’s massively oversimplifying if she thinks those are the only reasons the Labour party lost.
I actually think people like her are part of the problem. Rich, privileged, out of touch, extremely vocal about left wing politics - anathema to working class people in the midlands and the north who view people like her as London based left leaning lovies who just don’t get it or have any common ground with them. I voted for the Labour Party inspite of the support of people like Lily Allen, who personally I can’t stand. She’d probably be better considering whether her vocal support of the party actually does them any good.

There's a lot of unpleasantness\hate on this thread I wonder why , jealousy maybe?

I don't get why the turkeys voted for Xmas but I wouldn't dare put it on SM. It's a troll's paradise.

Originalyellowbelly · 14/12/2019 10:39

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I just object when their opinion is forced down others throats and anyone who disagrees is bad mouthed and called names. We all think our opinion is the right one, there's just no need to get nasty about it.

So the protestors were lying then, the Tories aren't racist.
FFs you LA sounds far better educated than you.

Gardai · 14/12/2019 10:41

She is entitled to say what she wants and support who she wants - where does it say anywhere that you are not allowed to support a political group because you are a singer ?

GladAllOver · 14/12/2019 10:41

Pathetic post about an unimportant 'celeb'.

Get a life.

GCAcademic · 14/12/2019 10:42

She's allowed to have an opinion!

Of course she's allowed to have an opinion.

But she should also recognise that her opinion - alongside those of people like Owen Jones, Ash Sarkar, and any number of privileged bubble-dwellers who blatantly despise and sneer at anyone who lives outside their woke circles - is part of the reason that people have been voting for Brexit and the Tories.

Say what you like about the tories. I'm sure they despise the electorate as much as Lily does. But, unlike the Momentum activists, they have the good sense not to sneer and abuse people for being thick, racist, uneducated, or evil.

Have a watch of this new tory MP explaining why he got elected in Wakefield:

Is Rachel Riley ok to use Twitter as a platform for her views? How about Piers Morgan?

Boyomama11 · 14/12/2019 10:44

Lily Allen needs to hush.
I'm a labour voter but it's people like her who throw her toys out the pram who turn people away from the party because it makes us all look like immature children who can't cope when things don't go their way.
Democracy is democracy, just because my team didn't win doesn't mean those who voted different are racist, misoginyst, hate the poor, bad ect ect.
It's really embarassing

Gardai · 14/12/2019 10:48

Yes I get the woke bubble thing but doesn’t mean she’s not entitled to an opinion and I’m unsure if the twitter ramblings of a few celebs sway a vote that much. I won’t take a Tory’s word for it either, perhaps someone who voted Tory up north in a previously labour stronghold might explain why, but I doubt lily Allen was the reason.

Gardai · 14/12/2019 10:49

Piers Morgan as PP said has been allowed to spout his vitriol a long long time. I think he should fuck off to the devils arsehole (where he came from).

noodlenosefraggle · 14/12/2019 10:49

Exactly. Funnily enough, people don't change their opinion because they are screamed at and abused by pop stars!

noodlenosefraggle · 14/12/2019 10:53

Absolutely and when they do that, they are shining a light on their opinions. What has Rachel Riley said? Because she has said a lot in the past about anti semitism in the Labour Party, to be met by an avalanche of racist and sexist abuse by Labour supporters.

bluebeck · 14/12/2019 10:55

ODFOD

SlayBellsRing · 14/12/2019 11:12

Lily Allen seems stuck in adolescense and has not grown up.

If she has all the mental health problems she confesses to have she should spend time on herself rather than bleating on Twitter.

It will all be forgotten soon and she will be back.

midsomermurderess · 14/12/2019 11:14

Singlenotsingle resents being regarded as stupid and uneducated. 'mysogeny'. Off you go dear.

JacquesHammer · 14/12/2019 11:15

I just don't want it rammed down my throat

Twitter does have an unfollow button. And a block button.

I mean come on.

Redcrayons · 14/12/2019 11:20

stop trying to interfere in things she doesn't understand

She's expressing an opinion in much the same way you are.

I have no idea what she thinks about anything, because I don't follow her. You could try doing the same

SpiderCharlotte · 14/12/2019 11:24

@Singlenotsingle oh I get it, you don't like to be told that you're stupid but it's fine for you to declare that she's 'silly Lily' and doesn't understand. You can say what she needs to do but she can't have an opinion? Got it.

I actually can't stand Lily Allen but she's as entitled as you, or anyone else, to voice her opinion.

I suspect you think your post comes across as terribly clever when you've really just made a total fool of yourself. Well done you.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/12/2019 11:26

I've seen quite a few celebrities do this. They usually reactivate their accounts because they realise they need a presence on twitter to keep their profile afloat.
Personally if I was a celeb I'd just keep my SM professional and fan friendly and keep my personal life and opinions out of it, and save myself a lot of aggro.

PhilSwagielka · 14/12/2019 11:38

I think a lot of rich Tory celebrities are out of touch as well tbf.

It goes both ways. And no, I'm not influenced by famous people - quite a few footballers I like are left-wing but equally, there are plenty of right-wing ones. Frank Lampard, for instance.

If you don't like her, block her. I don't follow Tories, you don't have to follow Labour voters.

itcamefrombeckyvardyself · 14/12/2019 12:19

Love lily Allen I have asked for her book for Christmas

Skyejuly · 14/12/2019 12:22

It was Boris that suggested most of us are stupid....

Barnseyboyo · 14/12/2019 12:24

The most vicious, vile and outright nasty people are Labour voters. The stuff they come out with wouldn’t be tolerated by anyone else. Scum. I’d be ashamed to admit I was Labour right now.

But you're not ashamed to call people that have a different political view than you scum? Goodness, this election really has brought out the worst in people, or perhaps shown their true colours.
