Does anyone else remember getting fabulous christmas bonuses from employers?

I remember 30 odd years ago regularly getting bonuses of £800 at Christmas which was about a months wages.

Always got taken out to fabulous restaurants for no expense spared dinners too.

It doesn't happen anymore does it?

Does anyone know why it stopped? Or does anyone still get one?

It's not a moan, I just wondered why it had stopped when we are supposed to be better off now than we were 30 years ago.

I'll be getting a gift of about £10 from my employer plus a buffett lunch.

What will you be getting?

We used to get a 2.5% bonus written into our contract. Long gone now, we even lost 10 minute tea breaks in return for free tea/coffee.

smemorata · 30/11/2019 20:55

I get a month's salary - but it's in my contract so it's basically my annual salary which is divided into 13 instead of 12. Still nice though!

I won't say the amount, but I get a very generous bonus at Christmas. We also get an all expenses paid Christmas party. I work for a small company.

We get a gross bonus of approx. £500 (others get quite a bit more, but I'm still only a trainee), plus a 3 course lunch with wine, and an evening do.

It depends where you work I suppose.

MissMarpletheMurderer · 30/11/2019 20:57

Sort of, we used to get amazing hampers, spirits, branded clothing, gift vouchers from our suppliers now we are lucky to get a wall planner. Stated dropping off late 90's no idea why.

123cupcake · 30/11/2019 20:59

We get a tub of celebrations, the Haribo tub, and a box of foxs biscuit each.

lovelyupnorth · 30/11/2019 20:59

We have an all expenses paid meal.

Justgivemesomepeace · 30/11/2019 21:01

We get £25 love to shop vouchers and an advent calendar

soupforbrains · 30/11/2019 21:02

We get £30 towards a Christmas do and then we get another £30 on a love2shop gift card.

pinkpantsrock · 30/11/2019 21:04

I got £11k last year. worked my arse for it, won't be as big this year, think i'm on track for £7k

WWlOOlWW · 30/11/2019 21:04

The only bonus I ever got was £500 extra for working on NYE in 1999.

LER83 · 30/11/2019 21:04

My dh gets a bonus, and gets a meal and night out, usually in London. One year they went to Claridges! All paid for by the boss. Guess it depends on where/who you work for. In my last job before I was a sahm (granted it was 10 years ago) we got a £25 voucher, and a fancy meal/evening in a nice hotel with rooms all paid for.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 30/11/2019 21:05

Fuck all here (academia).

BuildBuildings · 30/11/2019 21:07

I work in the cultural sector and most organisations are charities I've worked for, including current employer. We get nothing. We also have quite low wages for the work we do plus shirt term contracts. This is common across the sector. I knew what I was like when I got into it though! Feels like a ver long way from any idea of a bonus though!

pinkpantsrock · 30/11/2019 21:08

I work debt management

Florencenotflo · 30/11/2019 21:08

We get a 30 minute extension to our 1 hour lunch break so we can have a Christmas meal (that we pay for ourselves). That would be the one hour lunch break that no one ever gets time to take 😂 public sector, no surprises really!

I used to work at a construction company straight out doing my A Levels, they used to do a huge Christmas party, 3 course meal, DJ, free bar. Usually at a hotel which they paid for all the rooms for everyone. And suppliers used to drop hampers in for site agents full of wine and spirits and chocolates. The majority of the site agents were middle aged men, they would usually take the red wine and whisky and offer me any leftovers. One Christmas I ended up with 4 bottles of white wine and 2 bottles of vodka! As a skint 18 year old that was the best part of the job!

dangerrabbit · 30/11/2019 21:08

I work for a local authority so I generally get a risk of redundancy letter at Christmas to time with the end of the financial year in March.

helpfulperson · 30/11/2019 21:09

Not so much from employer but i remember loads of alcohol from sales reps.

pinkpantsrock · 30/11/2019 21:09

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/11/2019 21:12

MrsChanningTatum · 30/11/2019 21:15

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 30/11/2019 21:19

We get absolutely nothing, but that's the NHS for you! We arrange our own Christmas night out which we pay for ourselves

EleanorReally · 30/11/2019 21:24

nothing, also nhs, lucky if we get time off for a christmas do which we pay for ourselves, as well as the evening do.
