Jamie Oliver is dyslexic, I wonder if he did mistake fell ill and fall.

Rip Gary. Seemed a lovely man.

dingit · 27/11/2019 14:33

It says in the news it was possibly a fall. Not Jamie Oliver's biggest fan, but give the bloke break

No. Whatever the cause was, it's not JOs place to announce it.
Responding to official announcements with condolences and a tribute is the appropriate etiquette here.

So sad. My husband was at an event hosted by GR last year and said he was lovely. Someone had asked him who his favourite chef was and another person shouted "Jamie Oliver" and GR laughed and said "sorry I thought you said chef?" So I don't think the two were pals shall we say!

Sounds plausible, I see it's now being reported that he died from natural causes, it doesn't sound like he'd previously been ill so maybe a heart attack or stroke. Very sad

dingit · 27/11/2019 15:22

Even so I don't think he meant any disrespect, sometimes people just aren't that great at writing a tribute.
I don't understand how often celebs get picked to pieces on here.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2019 18:17

The headline I just saw said "...after falling ill" so it could easily be mistaken for "after falling"

AlternativePerspective · 27/11/2019 19:16

It wasn’t Jamie Oliver’s place to say anything, especially when the media stated that the family had asked for privacy. He’s frequently in the media so he knows the score.

dingit · 27/11/2019 19:17

I've just clicked on the news link again and it's been edited back to fallen ill. Social media is a bit like Chinese whispers sometimes.

Bluntness100 · 27/11/2019 19:34

I also think Jamie just made a mistake here, possibly thought the info was out there. He quickly deleted it, which indicates it was indeed a mistake made with th best intentions.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 27/11/2019 19:44

Well of course it was a mistake and not ill intentioned, but surely it’s totally crass to tweet the cause of someone’s death within minutes of their passing being announced?
Most obituaries I’ve read don’t even mention it.

diddl · 28/11/2019 11:12

Now the DM is saying that it was a fall.

4forkssake · 28/11/2019 13:42

Family has confirmed he died in hospital from a bleed on the brain following a fall at home. So very sad. RIP

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 28/11/2019 14:49

I've been reading some of the articles about Gary apparently he had a terrible brain injury after a car accident when he was younger and only just survived that, Drs at the time warned him he would always be vulnerable to head injury. He said this incident made him determined not to take his life for granted and he certainly accomplished a lot in the intervening years.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 28/11/2019 15:14

I bet Jamie Oliver feels like a right twonk 😬

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 28/11/2019 15:18

This is your life did a show on Gary years ago which I found on YouTube m.youtube.com/watch?v=R2lGXolCW60
