Yankee Candles for secret Santa

Would anyone hate to get Yankee candles as a secret Santa present?

My partner has got to get a new girl in the office early 20s a present. He knows nothing about her. Asked me for help but can give me no information about her! Thinking Yankee candles should be a safe bed but thought I'd ask MN opinion.

I prefer Lily Flame candles to Yankee.

Snowman123 · 24/11/2019 11:50

Its going to be hate it or love it I'm afraid.

I'd hate it!

chinateapot · 24/11/2019 11:58

I have done fun card games for secret Santa before like randomise
Don’t know if people like them but I’d be pleased to get a new game!

I'd hate it. I cant stand strong artificial scents & it would set off DH's asthma. But maybe a 'girl' in the office would love it. I'm a 'menopausal old goat' (that ageist comment shouldn't have made me laugh, but it did) and I'm a grinch about Secret Santa anyway.

mistermagpie · 24/11/2019 12:06

I just do amazon vouchers for this kind of thing (and for nursery staff and other people I don't know well), there will be the odd person who doesn't like amazon in principle but in real life those people are few and far between. No it's not personal, but it's risk free.

GhostsInSnow · 24/11/2019 12:43

I have a DD if that age she’s never shown the slightest interest in scented candles and has never bought them for her friends

I also have a DD of that age that loves her candles. Jo Malone are her treat ones but she likes Yankee as do many of her friends.

Jupiters · 24/11/2019 12:51

I think this thread proves that you'll never please everyone.
Yankee candles are suitably generic and easily regiftable if needed, so seen pretty perfect for secret santa.

As an aside for our secret santa it's a £5 limit and must be from a charity shop... Happy to admit I'm struggling with that one!

PurpleFrames · 24/11/2019 12:53

I'm in this age range- candles are very popular in my social groups. Although Yankee not so much as it's not affordable- but would love to be gifted one!

And if worse comes to worse like pps said - easy to regift

BlackCatSleeping · 24/11/2019 13:00

I agree, while I wouldn’t personally like a candle, it’s a perfectly appropriate SS present. There’s no way of knowing what she would or wouldn’t want, so it’s fine.

GoGoLego · 24/11/2019 13:03

I got yankee candles last year still unused probably going to a charity shop in the near future

He is bu

GoGoLego · 24/11/2019 13:03

Should say got them in a secret Santa

hsegfiugseskufh · 24/11/2019 13:03

Im 24 and love a candle. Posh chocs are a waste because i dont know anyone who likes them all so they either go in the bin or get shared around at xmas and the person who's gift they are doesnt benefit much.

Proper enjoyed that cheers! Grin

I have no sense of smell but DH says Yankee Candles don't smell nice. He is my nose. If you don't go for a candle what about a nice blanket from matalan? They have some for 10 and Under.

BonnieBrooke · 24/11/2019 13:39

Boots voucher. You can't go wrong.

DontCallMeShitley · 24/11/2019 13:44

I would hate them.
A good quality one like Floris however...

I run a SS and we all put like and dislikes on a list to help. So that way people can hopefully avoid getting stuff they really loathe or would be unable to regift.

DontCallMeShitley · 24/11/2019 13:46

Boots voucher. You can't go wrong.

Sorry, but you can. None of us have used Boots for years, can never find what we want in there any more. Not even vitamins or shampoo or soap, they just lost the lot somehow.

GoBackToPartyCity · 24/11/2019 13:50

Hate posh chocs. Get a Greggs voucher...£10 worth of sausage rolls. Winner.

carolina21 · 24/11/2019 13:58

In my old job Secret Santa had a proviso ,No chocolates or smellies allowed! This made it a little tricky TBH. I think a nice candle would be good . Otherwise token for coffee out , some socks / slipper socks (M and S will change them if she isnt keen), a nice soft woolly scarf from them or gloves/hat ?

SpaceCadet4000 · 24/11/2019 14:09

Mug, travel mug or water bottle probably a better bet. But Starbucks/Costa vouchers are good. A bit different, but what about a succulent or house plant in a nice pot? Houseplants are big in that age group.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 24/11/2019 14:13

I'm in my 20s and love candles! Also love wax melts and reed diffusers 🤷‍♀️

grisen · 24/11/2019 23:45

I’m in my early 20s and would love a Yankee candle. I however HATE chocolate and wine and anything with my initial, have all the keep cups, water bottles I might need or want.
And hate secret Santa. I’m a proper party pooper when it comes to secret Santa as I’ll spend months moaning about it hahah!

Suzysleep · 12/12/2019 19:14

Guess what I received today for my secret Santa present.....Xmas Grin
