Yankee Candles for secret Santa

Would anyone hate to get Yankee candles as a secret Santa present?

My partner has got to get a new girl in the office early 20s a present. He knows nothing about her. Asked me for help but can give me no information about her! Thinking Yankee candles should be a safe bed but thought I'd ask MN opinion.

I don’t like Yankee candles at all and don’t think they are very popular. How about some nice chocs instead?

Turt · 24/11/2019 09:33

Nope! I love them. We were gifted an extra large one for Christmas last year, use it most days and there's still some wax left.

stormsurfer · 24/11/2019 09:35

Maybe get a nice soy wax based candle instead?

I'm not keen. I'd donate it to my local charity shop but would be grateful for the thought and certainly wouldn't think it was a terrible secret santa gift

ClashCityRocker · 24/11/2019 09:38

It's fine. At the very worst, it's something the recipient can easily regift.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 24/11/2019 09:38

I’d love one! Much better than chocs.

Strugglingtodomybest · 24/11/2019 09:45

I wouldn't want it, but would appreciate that it's hard to buy presents for people you don't know.

Greyhound22 · 24/11/2019 09:46

I would love one. I wouldn't want chocolates - I cringe at the MN 'posh chocs'

patchworkelephant123 · 24/11/2019 09:47

Noooo as someone in their early twenties this is not a good gift, Yankee candles are not nice and overpriced.

What's the budget? I would go with hotel chocolat chocolate and Oliver Bonas socks as a generic thing. Or chocolates and a nice mug, some wax melts and a wax melt burner...

Greyhound22 · 24/11/2019 09:47

Another thing he could do is a voucher - Boots, Costa - would be appreciated by a woman in her 20's I think.

BlackCatSleeping · 24/11/2019 09:48

How about a nice notebook and pen?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 24/11/2019 09:51

I don't like candles at all (well, not dislike, just can't be arsed). I'd pass it onto someone or donate to charity. Then again, I'm not in my early 20s.

What's the SS budget?

chemenger · 24/11/2019 09:52

I have a DD if that age she’s never shown the slightest interest in scented candles and has never bought them for her friends. Scented candles seem like a middle aged gift to me, personally.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/11/2019 09:54

It's absolutely impossible to predict what this random woman is likely to like, as this thread illustrates.

The safest bet is probably a voucher - has he seen her drinking takeaway coffee, then Costa or whatever coffee shop is nearest the office might be a good bet. Or if she appears to like make up/grooming, then I'm sure she can spend a Boots voucher easily enough. Or maybe an Amazon voucher in a nice card and then she can spend it on books/kindle/anything really.

madcatladyforever · 24/11/2019 09:54

I love yankee candles but they are very much marmite and could end up in the bin, I'd get a different and perhaps not quite so "stinky" brand.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/11/2019 09:55

Agree that scented candles are probably 'too old' for a young woman, especially if she still lives with her parents.

heyyyall · 24/11/2019 09:56

Mixed responses So far budget is £10

Why are children working in offices?

Is she on work experience?

If so, I think a Costa gift card might be more appreciated.

JJSS123 · 24/11/2019 09:58

I’m 23 and love a Yankee candle!!!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 24/11/2019 09:58

Marks are doing lots of Initial gifts this year. Advantage - he can get a gift receipt so she can return it if not to her taste.

I’ll see if I can find a link

purplepalace · 24/11/2019 09:59

I really hate Yankee candles, they're hideous and make me gag.

I agree with PP - a Costa or Starbucks gift card would be perfect.

BlackCatSleeping · 24/11/2019 10:00

I like the Costa gift card idea unless you live in the Outer Hebrides or something. Is there a coffee shop chain near the work or in town?

georgialondon · 24/11/2019 10:00

I hate candles. It would go in the charity bag. I'd prefer wine!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 24/11/2019 10:00

Early 20s is not a child, don't be silly.
