Regarding the Daily Mail, Journalist Sonia Poulton commented they can be surprisingly anti-establishment at times and gave examples on a recent podcast.
As to why the gloves are off now, perhaps they want to crank up the pressure for PA to be interviewed by the FBI in the quest for even juicer stories.

As @Roussette posted earlier it's hardly coincidental that Andrew's statement was released just as it became common knowledge that Epstein had hidden cameras all over his mansion.
