Is there already a thread about the instamum dramas involving MoD today?

You probably have to be a certain type of person to want to me an ‘influencer’ it really doesn’t have any appeal to me. I used to follow a fashion blog until it became all #ad and it felt like she would sell anything.

Bl00mingCactus · 12/11/2019 22:20

I’m not scrolling the internet for dirt every 5 mins and checking their feed, commenting on their every post and coming back to report at the slightest whiff of scandal, gleefully looking for evidence of downfall. It’s horrible.

I’m commenting on a thread but as you were.

legoiseverywhere · 12/11/2019 22:23

@Bl00mingCactus I think it's really disingenuous to say because you are not influenced then it's not an issue. I mean advertising does work otherwise billions wouldn't be spent on it & there wouldn't be rules governing advertising.

Do you believe L'oréal should have to state extensions were used?
Do you believe product placement should be highlighted in a TV show?
Do you think instagram adverts & affiliate links should be clearly stated?

I'm not influenced by instagram but if 10 posters on the Style & Beauty board recommend a shampoo I might check it out, likewise if people recommend a good cookbook. I trust the recommendations are legit. Plenty of people don't even know what influencers are let alone how they make their money & as we have huge problems with mental health & social media I think all the conversations should be had.

The point being made wasn’t even in particularly about MOD and FOD but the wider impact that social media is having on families, consumer habits, societal norms, political influences and so on. You think it’s trivial, but it’s really not. If you don’t see the wider impact of what is going on, you aren’t paying enough attention.

legoiseverywhere · 12/11/2019 22:28

Yes It wasn’t good but seeing how over invested all you lot are I can see how she got sucked in.

So because your are getting challenged on this thread you're now going to start another thread slating your colleagues/friends? That makes zero sense.

It always baffles me when people come onto threads & tell others they are too invested & they should look away/ignore etc. Why does that advice not apply to them?

Atalune · 12/11/2019 22:30

Looks like Necker Island is still on then for the Hooper family then.
Holly Branson is engaging.

Choo choo the gravy train keeps on!

Must add virgin to the Boycott list.

Tooearlyforcrackers · 12/11/2019 22:45

And not only once, but twice 🤦‍♀️

RoseAdagio · 13/11/2019 06:17

Where has the Necker Island thing come from? I can't see any references to it.

Also - I'm dying to know what a 4k sink looks like! Please someone fill me in on the details?! Which is it, where from etc...

sniffsneeze · 13/11/2019 06:23

Can someone point me to how it was found out that CH had outed CB for the documentary? Is it an assumption?

Tooearlyforcrackers · 13/11/2019 06:32

The necker island thing is a joke i assume based on the the fact that Holly Branson could be frequently commenting on the OD’s posts.

The sink is the one in the twins bathroom. If you look on the Kohler Instagram page someone asked how much it was £3.5k. Mod never disclosed that as a gift but it must have been surely? She never disclosed much properly which is why she had a reputation for being shady with ads.

They also have a gold tap in the kitchen which fod reluctantly disclosed as an ad. That was around £2k I reckon too. The whole house is a big showroom for brands.

CH didn’t out CB. The info was out there on a documentary and had been on her tattle thread for months too. CB says someone approached her brand partners but I highly doubt that was CH. Chinese whispers of course means CH has been implicated in the “outing”. Can you be outed if you went on TV to talk about it yourself? Confused

merrygoround51 · 13/11/2019 06:55

I think the piling on MOD is yet more playground bullying.

I am no fan of insta-mums or dads , I find them banal and uninspiring. However my work involves instagram and I am also influenced (more by people like Liz Earle though)

Posting about her NHS job almost wishing she would lose it - but what about the impact on her family ?

Yes she did something stupid and mean and she will pay a price but to wish for her utter destruction is extremely nasty.

In the meantime another insta mum who appears to have a pretty awful past is seeing that all dragged up and then being lauded by those who dislike MOD. The mind boggjes!

Sagradafamiliar · 13/11/2019 07:01

CB used the opportunity/timing to allude that CH 'outed her'.

There is no 'pile on' re CH. Public manipulation has consequences. That's the risk she took. She's known, of course people will talk. Why would that talk be positive when her actions were negative? It's very dismissive to people she's hurt, and her profession she's brought into disrepute (midwifery), to turn the gaze onto others and cast them as the wrong ones.

legoiseverywhere · 13/11/2019 07:12

In light of how MOD "left" instagram before re "trolling", do people think if another insta mum had done what she did & she was instead a "victim" that she wouldn't be using the opportunity to play it to her advantage & boost her profile?

Skyejuly · 13/11/2019 07:15

She absolutely would ^

Samosaurus · 13/11/2019 07:22

There is no 'pile on' re CH

I disagree. The fact that this has made the (inter)national news with misleading statements about her saying she set up an anonymous account with the sole intention to racistly bully people and had been trolling her own husbands photos for months - things that simply aren’t true (although her one racist comment was of course abhorrent) shows that what should have been a relatively contained catfight amongst the insta-mum crowd has been blown completely out of proportion. While the fact that CB used to be a pimp is swept under the carpet.

Even the people on Tattle are beginning to feel sorry for CH now. Especially now FOD publicly threw her under the bus on her birthday. Then there are people like Clemmie Telford - who is/was a real-life friend of CH and who doesn’t appear to have been targeted by CH’s troll account - posting tearful cryptic Instagram stories for attention.

Many people including current members of parliament have said/done far worse things than CH and have not been subjected to this kind of public witch hunt.

sniffingthewax · 13/11/2019 07:31

CB used the opportunity/timing to allude that CH 'outed her'

I think CB played this very well. She said very little, signposted to Kelechi, sat back whilst the white women who have never uttered a word about #blacklivesmatter ranted about how outraged they were and then came in at the end to say how eternally grateful she was. I don't believe any of this was coincidental.

Tooearlyforcrackers · 13/11/2019 07:38

Agree with Samosaurus, Kelechi posted on twitter that "Clemmie Hooper creates a fake account online where she abused Black women online FOR MONTHS and she admitted to this". This is completely untrue - one offensive comment does not equal this assertion - and yet Kelechi has now written an article for Grazia telling her side of the story (toned down for Grazia I noticed).

Alice did write plenty of things about other instagrammers, some true, some I don't believe in hindsight are true, but abusing black women online for months is a complete misrepresentation of what happened.

The reason that sympathy is shifting on tattle is because one thing tattle doesn't like is hypocrisy and lying. If you have anything shady in your past and are now trying to present yourself as something else, it will come to light on Tattle. The last time MOD left instagram tattle didn't exist - the reasons she left that time were misrepresented in the press imo as well.

IMO midwifery and influencing are incompatible. Her regulatory body should have stamped down on this a long time ago, before it got to the point where she could be reported.

legoiseverywhere · 13/11/2019 07:45

shows that what should have been a relatively contained catfight amongst the insta-mum crowd has been blown completely out of proportion

But who decides what should be a private cat fight and what is news when it's played out in the public domain? A vast amount of news is blown out of proportion in relation to coverage/story. This story is interesting because it's shocking & lots of people are reading it, that's why it's had lots of coverage.

While the fact that CB used to be a pimp is swept under the carpet.
Even the people on Tattle are beginning to feel sorry for CH now.
Especially now FOD publicly threw her under the bus on her birthday

See I think this is all naive.
What difference does it make to the media that CB used to be a pimp or MPs do shady things? It's about this story.

Again it's not particularly relevant that people on Tattle feel sorry for her, is that going to stop the press news cycle?

Do people think FOD exists in his own vacuum & that "throwing his wife under the bus" was his decision or a carefully made decision between all parties?

jamoncrumpets · 13/11/2019 07:46

There is a pile on now, I agree. CH is done on SM, I think. I guess my feeling is she should never have started.

LazyDaisey · 13/11/2019 07:49

Sorry, I’m with Bl00mingCactus. I first read the thread and came back wondering why it was still going... it’s like reading a fan thread of a popular tv show where every fictional character is overanalysed.... except these are real people.

And I’ve honestly never bought anything an influencer was peddling (I don’t follow insta mums but do follow interior designers) because I know the account is their job and they’re advertising me products.

Just like I don’t buy stuff I see advertised on the television. Confused

One of my kids loves cookie swirl c on YouTube. It’s been drilled into her that she’s watching an advert and this is an adult whose job is to play with toys companies give her in a fun way so kids will want to buy them too.

Tooearlyforcrackers · 13/11/2019 07:51

It is an interesting story but no more interesting than some of the other issues being discussed on tattle at any time. What is also interesting is that several of the people getting positive press out of it have books out or about to be published though.

PinkJam · 13/11/2019 07:53

CH did not out CB. Tattle mentioned it way before CH and also there have been comments made under CB’s posts before about it but she just deletes them.

CH is completely in the wrong for using racist language. Someone forcing other women into sex work is also wrong. But the other instamums only seem interested in what CH has done. Women being forced into prostitution probably doesn’t feature highly as an issue in their middle class world.

And people like Anna Mathur who portrays herself as helping women yet public ally comments on CB’s post that it’s ok and doesn’t change anyone’s opinion of her. Well if a close friend of mine admitted to forcing women into sex work then I would change my opinion of them!

MarshaBradyo · 13/11/2019 08:01

It doesn’t matter that individual people on here feel they are not influenced, it is a current selling tool that like any other, that is fast rising and brings its own issues, it can be discussed.

If you don’t want to hear about the machinations then just avoid places where it’s being discussed.

MarshaBradyo · 13/11/2019 08:03

On balance someone who uses a profession and dc to build a brand leaves themselves more vulnerable to a turnaround like this.
But the people who have tried to gain from it are just as bad, maybe worse who knows.

IDontDrinkTea · 13/11/2019 08:10

The thing with the 4K sink was someone at the time commented on it asking if it was #gifted or they bought it. And mod replied saying she wasn’t sure, she’d have to check the invoice. Surely if you’d spent 4k on a sink you’d remember it?! It seemed so dishonest
