We are just watching pointless and Anne diamond is on. My daughter asked who she was and I explained that she was a tv presenter, who was famous back in the day. I then remembered that she was the one who Lost her baby to SIDS and gave us the advice to put babies on their backs.DD currently cuddling her new son and is almost not believing me that babies were swaddled, put on their tummies and made sure they were warm. I know that there are still babies that die on their backs, and no matter what you do this awful thing still happens. I’m surprised this woman isn’t revered for what she did. Does anyone know if there are other reasons she hasn’t been officially recognized for what she did?

I've a feeling there was some reason people were negative about her campaign - I can't remember who, or why, but I remember thinking their objections sounded potentially plausible (I never investigated further)

I vaguely remember this too,was it the new mattress for new baby advice that was debunked? I wish I had a better memory!

Amazing woman. It doesn't matter if she accepts or tells them to shove it, she should be offered the choice. It's an outrage she has waited so long for such well deserved recognition.

littlecabbage · 06/11/2019 21:01

How do we make it happen?

I love Anne Diamond and I still think of baby Sebastian to this day. I remembered her campaign when I had my children.
Wonderful woman who deserves to be a Dame.

Butterisbest · 07/11/2019 00:48

Anne Diamond has not had public recognition for her incredible campaign about SIDS. She had an affair with her married boss, Mike Hollingsworth, she was publicly excoriated for being the other woman. They conceived their first child while he was still married, they eventually married and many years later Mike Hollingsworth had an affair and left Anne, she came under fire again for "losing" him. She's a victim of the most horrible misogyny, from women as well as men.

Butterisbest · 07/11/2019 00:53

Her campaign changed the way babies were settled to sleep for the good but as long as misogynistic attitudes prevail she'll never be formally recognised.

OhMyDarling · 07/11/2019 01:07

I never knew about this- Anne you should def get to be a Dame.
And do accept it, then use your platform to remind people of the campaign annddddddddddddddd that it’s taken so flipping long to be recognised!!! Outrageous.
But def accept it- it’s an amazing achievement.

TheQueef · 07/11/2019 15:08

I'm a bit surprised there aren't one of two FWR types kicking a fuss up about this.
It's blatant misogyny. A woman did some woman stuff. Then committed woman crimes.
If it was a male sports star or such like he'd have a shower of honorary titles and a gong to top it off.

I hope they do get on it, a couple of the more vocal, formidable types Grin

Whattodoabout · 07/11/2019 15:46

You can’t nominate unless you know her address which I’m imagining none of us do. She definitely deserves it though.

Beveren · 07/11/2019 18:59

Could you use a care of address like her agent's?

TheQueef · 09/11/2019 12:21

I've had an idea. 💡
We can all get these.
Wear them on GE day or summat.

I had a baby in 1991 and remember well the advice given by professionals about putting babies on their front. I chose to ignore it and put my baby on his side as I was worried he'd choke if he was sick.

I remember well when Anne lost her son, it reverberated around all our friends who had small ones and made us all much more aware. Dreadful, dreadful thing to happen.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 10/11/2019 12:13

All kudos to her for her campaign, she clearly was instrumental in saving many lives. But am I the only one couldn’t abide her on breakfast tv? Smug and twee,I always switched over.
