What true crime has left you baffled?

I'm watching a show on sky crime called, "Who killed Garrett Phillips."

I'm baffled at how the police came to the conclusion that their main suspect did it. Apart from the fact, that he was on camera in his car at the school (he worked there) and the victim was also on camera 7 seconds later, nowhere near his car.

It is truly bizarre.

There was documented movement within the Bamber House ( on a police log) after he is believed to have murdered his family, whilst he was outside with the Police watching the scene. There very much is doubt.

I remember watching on TV a few years ago one of those ‘Missing’ programmes. A young (teenage) lad went missing from a coastal area of the U.K. He had gone out for the day (think it was the school holidays, winter time as I’m sure it said it was dark early) and his mum heard the front door open and someone go upstairs. Didn’t check as she assumed it was him. Hears the front door open and close again. Goes upstairs and the boys jumper/top is wet and in the wash basket but no sign of him and he never came back. I can’t remember any more details and can’t find anything online. In fact, I’m wondering if I have confused a couple of cases.

Other people who’ve disappeared: Kevin Hicks, Lee Boxell, Andrew Godsen, Alex Sloley.

Reddit has some very good subs on these and lots of others.

I couldn’t get away with that who killed Garret program, I felt like I wasted three hours of my life watching it! The police were so prejudiced that they have no other leads at all as they were so intent on proving it was Nick!

Agreed! Those Prosecutors cared more about what a conviction would do for their careers than justice for Garrett. They ruined a man's life because they were so blinded by prejudice.

That whole two screamed of racism.

Jeremy Bamber case is under scrutiny the police lost a report that showed him making a call from a different phone no and a different address. The forms got amalgamated to make it look like it was from one call. Then the original forms magically disappeared that highlighted this and that evidence would be very weighty in his defence.

There is lots more inconsistent evidence too.

I once spent a whole morning down a rabbit hole reading about the disappearance of Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froon in the Panama jungle.

I think it has all but been solved now, but the photos found on their camera are quite strange and there are a few unanswered questions about the whole thing.

A few cases that some of you might like to get your teeth into if you haven't already!

Trevaline Evans

Brian Schaffer

Daniel Entwistle

Zebb Quinn

Raylene Helsley

A few of those (maybe most?) aren't exactly jaw dropping in that it's clear what happened but they're an interesting (and in the case of Raylene, very sad) read if you're not entirely familiar

The 2 that baffle me the most are Asha Degree and Kyron Horman. While it seems it was the step mum that did something to Kyron, what and why are unknown. She had very little time to kil and dispose of his body after bringing him to the Science Fair.

MerryDeath · 28/10/2019 10:11

william tyrell (I'm just finishing nowhere child)
anne-elisabeth hagen

FreeBedForFlys · 28/10/2019 10:11

I too watched the Jonbenet documentary and was left convinced that Burke did it. The ransom note was definitely suspect but then I can’t help thinking why on Earth it demanded exactly the same amount of money that JR had received as a bonus (IIRC)? How could they possibly think that WOULDNT look dodgy??

One way in which I felt the documentary let itself down was the analysis of the 911 call - it reminded me of those people who think they hear voices in white noise, or when you play a record backwards. You can hear ANYTHING.

The Bamber case is pretty open and shut isn’t it?

Oh and Jesse Ross, Chicago

MH 370.

It is hard to accept that this incident has still not been properly explained so the aviation industry can learn from it and make flying safer in future.

Maura Murray

spagbog5 · 28/10/2019 10:16

Suzie Lamplugh.
I think both her parents have died now and had no answers.

cauliflowersqueeze · 28/10/2019 10:18

Yes Suzie Lamplugh. And that Mr Kipper.
Horrific

HoppingPavlova · 28/10/2019 10:35

Bella in the Wych Elm
Beaumont children
Madeline McCann
William Tyrell
Sommerton Man (while permission to exhume has been granted the state won’t foot the bill so private fundraising for it, also it will only prove if he is the father of an individual and if he was poisoned, not who he was, what happened etc)
Roanoke Island

ruralcat · 28/10/2019 10:38

Yes we just watched it on sky. Gobsmacked at how unprofessional the police etc were given they were all being filmed. There seemed to be no other reason for going after nick apart from the fact he was black. I personally think jones would of been a better suspect.

Luvacuppatea · 28/10/2019 10:41

Definitely the Beaumont children. Can’t imagine the horror of one child going missing, yet these parents had all three of theirs disappear from a beach in Southern Australia over 50 years ago now.

weebarra · 28/10/2019 10:42

Nairn banker Alasdair Wilson, short on his own doorstep. Possible mistaken identity.

TwistedBirkenstockBlister · 28/10/2019 10:43

Place marking!

BlackCatSleeping · 28/10/2019 10:53

About Madeleine McCann, cadaver dogs aren’t that reliable. They are right around 95% of the time, which means one in twenty times they are wrong. I can’t put too much faith in them.

123Dancewithme · 28/10/2019 11:03

Andrew Gosden.

SouthWestmom · 28/10/2019 11:18

Just looked up Richard Hall. Graduate in electrical engineering and then freelance IT and web design.

Not sure how that qualifies him to come to any conclusions on MM or the other vast range of subjects he appears to pontificate on.

MissMarpletheMurderer · 28/10/2019 11:22

Zaphodsotherhead not heard about Penny bell that is awful, especially as she was asking for help and the witness ignored her.
