About bloody time I say!

I think Harry and Meghan would both be better off if they stood down from public life and moved to LA.

Why should they? Harry's been a member of the British Royal Family since birth. Why should he move his family abroad because a certain sector of the press and society are bullying his wife?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 01/10/2019 21:56

About time. The treatment of her has been appalling - and yes - Piers Morgan who is merely cheesed off that she ghosted him should be very ashamed about his petty self important toxic campaign against her.

Encyclo · 01/10/2019 21:56

I wouldn’t say the press were the reason his mother died. Sadly if she’d only worn a seatbelt. I think her death was more about road safety. I understand the need to blame someone though.

So the press were blameless in his Mother's death? Are you serious? They literally hunted her to death

They should stand down as they hate the press intrusion. It’s not going to go away when they are always in the public eye. Newspapers need to make money. I do believe they could live a quiet life if they wanted.
Diana sadly died due to road safety, a drunk driver and no seat belt. Diana and I do feel sorry for her untimely death, was not trying to live a quiet life at the time of her death.

PatchworkElmer · 01/10/2019 21:59

I was glad to see that they’re doing this. It just nastiness and it needs to stop.

PortiaCastis · 01/10/2019 22:00

There are privacy laws and why the fuck should a Prince stand down because a filthy rag breaks them

100PercentThatBitch · 01/10/2019 22:01

ALL THE ROYALS HATE THE PRESS INTRUSION

William and Kate are hardly stood there like "ooo we wish it was us being mugged off instead"

Are they all going to fuck off to LA?

No

Duty. God And Country. Etc.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/10/2019 22:01

Good for them. If only they could shut the whole paper down

Really? Whatever we all think of this particular rag, you'd genuinely want H&M to be able to shut down the free press?

FWIW I totally get why they feel moved to bring the case, but however much some might wish it so, this case isn't about "the Mail writing nasty stories". Instead it's about a specific letter being published, and issues such as how the Mail came to have it might just open doors they'd prefer left closed

Good luck to them both, but here's hoping they don't come to regret their choice

DoingWhatWorks · 01/10/2019 22:02

Go Team Sussex! Well said Harry.

stairway · 01/10/2019 22:02

Despite the letter it won’t stop the press intrusion. The more interesting they are the more the newspapers will go after them.

MadameButterface · 01/10/2019 22:02

Good for them

I like the way Harry comes out swinging in that letter.

The hate and slander the likes of the mail pours on anyone who isn’t rich, white (and if female, compliant) and right wing isn’t just dishonest, it’s dangerous. We are so polarised as a nation right now. Hate crime is up. Jo Cox was murdered in an act of terrorism by a pro brexit white supremacist, and no one’s got shit to say about it. The hate filled rhetoric peddled by the mail et al does more than hurt people’s feels, and it’s good to see those with power using it to stand up to it.

BertrandRussell · 01/10/2019 22:04

I’m assuming that they know how the letter got into the hands f the press and their lawyers have said that it won’t reflect badly on them in any way?

stairway · 01/10/2019 22:04

I think William and Kate get less attention because they are really boring now.

Encyclo · 01/10/2019 22:04

They should stand down as they hate the press intrusion

Should Charles stand down then? Should William?

They despise the press.

Charles got caught on a hot mic saying that he can't stand Nicholas Witchell. His boys were telling him to "smile and wave"

MistyMinge2 · 01/10/2019 22:05

Yay go Harry!! The double standards of certain press has been shocking. They love to build someone up to only then knock them down. This kind of witch hunt cannot be allowed to go unpunished.

notacooldad · 01/10/2019 22:06

Last week even the 4month old Archie was getting slagged off on here, it was vile and showed posters up for what they are
What??
What is there to say about a baby for goodness sake!

Horehound · 01/10/2019 22:07

GOOD!

Now he needs to send a letter to some MN posters who also enjoy bashing her.

Ziraphale · 01/10/2019 22:08

I feel so heart sorry for the Duchess of Sussex. I remember that horrible, fragile postpartum time and I cannot imagine how awful it must be to go through all of that in the public eye, with tabloids constantly looking for a negative spin.

I know they're privileged and all but I really wouldn't want to be in her shoes for a moment. I actually admire how hard they've fought for some semblance of privacy - I won't even put pictures of my baby on Facebook so I can't even imagine what it must be like to have the media battering down your doors. She's doing remarkably well under the circumstances, tbh.

stairway · 01/10/2019 22:09

Tbh I do think that if any member of the serving royal family really hate all the intrusion they should just jack it in. I would hate it too. It’s a very weird life.

Encyclo · 01/10/2019 22:09

Diana and I do feel sorry for her untimely death, was not trying to live a quiet life at the time of her death.

What does this even mean?

"That odious man" - Witchall

Kate got plenty of nasty attention in the early years from The Mail, usually focussing on class and painting her mother as a scheming Mrs Bennett.

She has almost adopted a very careful "public face and work uniform" approach.

She is also the future Queen

With Meghan it's like she's easy pickings because she's neither white nor British and had many many years of being completely open on social because she had no reason not to be.

Kate via nationality alone will have had a level of understanding of the Firm that Meghan perhaps still doesn't possess

Rather than supporting her as she takes her first steps in Royal life the paper has done nothing but drag her.

They did similar to Kate and would look for photos of her laughing and smirking at events

And when her brother recently announced his poor mental health, don't imagine that was his choice and it wasn't a threat of "give us a nice exclusive or we'll write a far worse article. "

But they have given Meghan a much worse first 12 months than Kate

AgeLikeWine · 01/10/2019 22:14

It would be very interesting to see what would happen if the Mail decided to play hardball, refused to retract, apologise or settle and said to Harry & Meghan “We’ll see you in court”. They could decide to sue Harry for accusing them of printing ‘lies’.

I imagine the Queen & Prince Charles would not be happy, to put it mildly....

stairway · 01/10/2019 22:15

I mean she was drawing attention to herself at the time. The papers were loving it of course. If she was just photographed doing ordinary things they would have lost interest.
