How old were you when you had your DCs and how long did it take you to conceive?

Hi,

So I won't babble on, but in short, I'm 35 and considering having my second DC (already have an almost teenager 😌 so big age gap) but as l have just gone over the 'safety zone' in terms of fertility and because we're a ss couple, so require donor sperm, I'm worried that we're going to struggle.

I realise that everyone is different and I'm probably in a different situation to most on here, but nevertheless, I would just like to hear your experiences, generally.

I keep getting raised eyebrows when I tell people we're considering extending our family, as if I'm mad to have left it this late. Someone said I'd be crazy to start over again and I should just enjoy getting my life back while still relatively young. But.... they're part of your life forever aren't they? You're never "free" in that sense.

Anyway, I said I wouldn't babble Confused Be great to hear from you.

TIA

I'm currently 35 and pregnant with my second. My other DC is 19 months.
First child took 4 months, this one was first attempt.

I'd say it's no one else's business but yours and you're fine age wise! Smile

I'd say that in my mid 30's I feel so much more relaxed as a parent than I think I would have been in my 20's.

SuzieBishop · 23/09/2019 17:42

I was 33 when I had my DS - it took us 6 months to conceive him. I have an 19 week old DD and it took us just a month to conceive her and I was 35 then.

SuzieBishop · 23/09/2019 17:43

I meant to say aswell that I found in my first ante natal group that there was no-one below the age of 30!

Ginger, congratulations! Yes, I know what you mean. I know it's no one else's decision, but I can't help but sometimes think, maybe they've got a point. Maybe I should be thankful for the one DC I have. I think when you have to go down an alternative route, you get too much thinking time! 😂

I have booked in for fertility tests to check my fertility age, because tbh, I don't want to spend all this money if our chances are tiny. That's not for another couple of months though Hmm I am the least patient person, which is not a good start.

My other blood tests came back within normal range, although my ovary one was reading a bit on the high side- borderline outside normal range, but my doctor said it was nothing to be concerned about. I've also been tracking my ovulation and seem to be ovulating on the same day and my periods have started to behave (28-30 day cycle) for the first time in my life. Started happening as soon as we started talking seriously about having a baby Confused so I'm hoping that's a good sign, although a little weird.

Thanks, Suzie

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 23/09/2019 18:15

Dc1 - 2 months off my 37th birthday. 1 cycle.
Dc2 - 40. 5 cycles of trying but we were out on when I ovulated for the first couple.

ittooshallpass · 23/09/2019 18:18

Pregnant at 42 at first attempt.

Stravapalava · 23/09/2019 18:20

1st DC - I was 27 and took 2 months to conceive
miscarriage - I was 30 and took 3 months to conceive
2nd DC - I was 30 and took 3 months to conceive

nobigotsallowed · 23/09/2019 18:32

Ist DC born when I was 37, took 2 months to conceive.
2nd DC born when I was 40, took 5 months to conceive.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 23/09/2019 18:36

Conceived at 31, 33 and 36. First time each time.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 23/09/2019 18:36

DC1 at 29, 6 months TTC
DC2 now at 31, 5 months TTC

delilabell · 23/09/2019 18:37

Started trying for ds at 28. At 32 we adopted instead as I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and we'd been through infertility treatment etc.
Conceived dd at 35 after having sex once!
Hope things go well for you OP.

MadisonAvenue · 23/09/2019 18:40

I had a miscarriage at 26, that was the second attempt.
27 first attempt after the miscarriage
30 first attempt.

Spritesobright · 23/09/2019 18:45

If you've had a baby before then it should be relatively straightforward if there weren't any issues.
I had DD at 33 and it took 18 months because I had PCOS.
DD2 at 35 took 7 months to conceive.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm very sorry to those of you who have experienced miscarriages Flowers

Sprite, I'd like to think so, but I was a lot younger when I had my first. All women in my family seem to be very fertile though, but I don't know if that's coincidental or hereditary.

I was 37 when I had dd1. It took 7 years to get there. I had 2 miscarriages and cancer, which delayed things a bit.

lljkk · 23/09/2019 19:52

Fell pg when I was...
age 35: 2m of actual TTC to get DC3. he turned out to be the true PiTA child too
age 31, 33 & 39: often careless with BC but no formal TTC.

I've never had a m/c.

Fluffsmum · 23/09/2019 19:54

DC1- 32yo and 1 month trying
DC2- 35yo and 1 month trying

crosser62 · 23/09/2019 19:55

33 with my first, took 3 years to get.

43 with my second, took 6 years to get that one.

Cookit · 23/09/2019 19:56

Across my friendship group, colleagues, parents at child’s school etc I just can’t fathom considering 35 really old. It’s a perfectly normal age to have a child.

Yellredder · 23/09/2019 19:57
  1. Not long - a few months, can't remember exactly.
crosser62 · 23/09/2019 19:57

Also 7 miscarriages all together throughout.
Hardest journey ever.

elliejjtiny · 23/09/2019 19:58

With dc1 I was 23 and it took a year of ttc. With dc5 I was 31 and on the pill
