How old were you when you had your DCs and how long did it take you to conceive?

Hi,

So I won't babble on, but in short, I'm 35 and considering having my second DC (already have an almost teenager 😌 so big age gap) but as l have just gone over the 'safety zone' in terms of fertility and because we're a ss couple, so require donor sperm, I'm worried that we're going to struggle.

I realise that everyone is different and I'm probably in a different situation to most on here, but nevertheless, I would just like to hear your experiences, generally.

I keep getting raised eyebrows when I tell people we're considering extending our family, as if I'm mad to have left it this late. Someone said I'd be crazy to start over again and I should just enjoy getting my life back while still relatively young. But.... they're part of your life forever aren't they? You're never "free" in that sense.

Anyway, I said I wouldn't babble Confused Be great to hear from you.

TIA

Dc1: pregnant at 35, started trying December, bfp end of Jan. Born October.

Dc2: pregnant at 37. Started trying June, bfp October. Trying was a bit harder given a toddler and last summer was too sweaty to let our skin touch, so not surprised it took a bit longer. Born June this year.

I realise we're very lucky.

33, first month ttc, sadly mmc 12 weeks
33 (born when 34) second month ttc, all ok
35, first month ttc, chemical pregnancy
35 (born when 36) second month ttc, all ok

You’re definitely not too old but I’d get cracking if you’re sure it’s what you want, I know people struggling to conceive in their late 30s despite easy conception in their early 30s

Windydaysuponus · 23/09/2019 20:17

I had dc in my teens, 20's, 30 's and 40' s!! Conceived 3rd cycle of ttc at the most.

36 with number 1 - an accident despite contraception.

Number 2 is on the way 2 months trying.

Pootle40 · 23/09/2019 20:21

Conceived at 33 - 1st month
Conceived at 38 - 2nd month

mindutopia · 23/09/2019 20:22

I was 32 and 37 when they were born (both very well planned as I didn’t want dc young and I wanted a good age gap). Conceived the 2nd and 1st cycle trying, respectively. Just before I got pregnant with #2 I had a pregnancy that ended in mc, got pregnant 2nd cycle then too (I’m very fertile, I think) and ds was conceived the month after the mc.

My only-27- 3 months

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 23/09/2019 20:25

I was 37 and it took 5 months . Although I was sickenenly healthy then, gym 3 times a week and only eating fresh food , salads fish etc , I'm not sure if that helps. I was actually doing all that to manage my endometriosis so I was pleasantly surprised!

Rachelover60 · 23/09/2019 20:26

I was 29 when I conceived and when I had my baby, it happened quickly.
However we did try for a baby the year before and it didn't happen, don't know why. Then I decided not to at that time because of a work situation so all worked out for the best in the end.

moccaicecream · 23/09/2019 20:28

30 and 33 - conceived within 1-2 months. I have endometriosis and only one ovary (the other was removed in my 20s) so it was all a bit of a surprise as I was told to expect TTC to be difficult.

blissa1 · 23/09/2019 20:39

A close family member had 1 child then couldn't conceive for 9 years !!(same father) then just after someone telling her to relax n not worry she will catch she did after 9years !!

zsazsajuju · 23/09/2019 20:41

Late 30s when I had my first. Took about 5 minutes

Theworldisfullofgs · 23/09/2019 20:42

31 and 36. First month both times.

Roozy123 · 23/09/2019 20:49

My son I was pregnant within 6 weeks.- 27 years old.
With my 2nd pregnancy we slept together unprotected once or twice and I fell pregnant. - 29 years old.
My third we started trying in June and I was pregnant in July - 32 years old.

I'll be 33 when my 3rd is born and I was worried but mainly because of what I had heard about being "older" .. but now I'm.pregnant I just feel a little more tired and that's it and I'm keeping ontop of my weight gain as I gain weight alot quicker now!! But now I'm pregnant the panic of feeling and being older isn't there as much and i do feel different about it.

I don't think 35 there is any problem having another child - I do think it's always down to the individual.
ALOT of women at 35 fall pregnant fairly quick and everything is healthy and normal.

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2019 21:05

DC1 - 11 months, I was 28
DC2 - instantly, I was 30
DC3 - 4 months, I was 32

MoaningNet · 23/09/2019 21:58

At 27 I found out I had an ovarian cyst (caused by endometriosis). The cyst was surgically removed and I then took steroids for a year. I stopped taking the steroids at the end of December and was pregnant by March.
I had my second child at 37 (the age gap was our choice). I had not had any further treatment for endometriosis since before DC1 was born and it took about 15 months to conceive (although admittedly, we weren’t great at having sex at the right times - I didn’t monitor my cycle).

nobigotsallowed · 24/09/2019 08:06

Billie, did I read that right? You started the menopause the same year you had your dc?
