How old were you when you had your DCs and how long did it take you to conceive?

Hi,

So I won't babble on, but in short, I'm 35 and considering having my second DC (already have an almost teenager 😌 so big age gap) but as l have just gone over the 'safety zone' in terms of fertility and because we're a ss couple, so require donor sperm, I'm worried that we're going to struggle.

I realise that everyone is different and I'm probably in a different situation to most on here, but nevertheless, I would just like to hear your experiences, generally.

I keep getting raised eyebrows when I tell people we're considering extending our family, as if I'm mad to have left it this late. Someone said I'd be crazy to start over again and I should just enjoy getting my life back while still relatively young. But.... they're part of your life forever aren't they? You're never "free" in that sense.

Anyway, I said I wouldn't babble Confused Be great to hear from you.

TIA

Billie, did I read that right? You started the menopause the same year you had your dc?

nope, looks like her Dsis (sister) conceived at 45. Billie had a child at 37 but went into menopause at 45. thats how I read it

pockethelot · 24/09/2019 08:21

DS - 19. After 4 miscarriages, two of which 'late' miscarriages.

Awful journey

morrisseysquif · 24/09/2019 08:23

40, for Dc1 took a couple of months when we started being serious about when we were trying.
43 for dc 2, a miscarriage in between, took a year.

Dc1 age 24 instantly
Dc2 age 27 instantly
Dc3 age 31 1 month

My tips are have sex every day, avoid chemical heavy cosmetics and eat well

Basil90 · 24/09/2019 08:27

Pregnant at 28 on our first attempt - DS now 3 months old and I'm 29. Hoping to try for DC number 2 in a few years. Go for it OP, you're by no means old to be ttc. I was the youngest in our hypnobirthing classes - everyone was over 30!

Funnyface1 · 24/09/2019 08:58

24 and 30. Both conceived in first month.

Camomila · 24/09/2019 09:04

27 - 5 months
31 - 1 month (had been using a period tracking app)

I know a few ladies who had their youngest in their mid 40s (30 odd years ago so naturally)

nobigotsallowed · 24/09/2019 09:19

mocca, ah yes. That is quite obvious. I really should have waited for that coffee to kick in before posting 🙄

Anerak, I'm happy with lots of sex, but in our case, I'm not sure how helpful that will be 😅

34- 2 months.
36- 3 months but miscarried.

A friend got pregnant in 3 months age 38.

nobigotsallowed · 24/09/2019 10:51

I'm sorry for your loss Minnie

DS1 - 33 - planned but almost immediate
DS2 - 43 - once unprotected

Highly fertile family on both sides, though. The boys should probably never even smile at a girl.

goldopals · 24/09/2019 10:58

I was 31 and we had an accident within a month of being married

BaaBaaBS · 24/09/2019 11:01

I had my first at 37- it took a year to concieve.
Pregnant with my 2nd now at almost 39- it took one night to concieve!

LER83 · 24/09/2019 11:03

DC1 - 26, weren't actively trying, but took about 8 months.
Dc2 - 28, first attempt
Dc3 - 31, first attempt

One of my friends is pregnant with her 3rd at 38, another friend had her 3rd at 41. Most of the mums at the school gate are over 40, the norm where I am is to have children mid/late 30's.

Clawdy · 24/09/2019 11:05

I have 4 DC, so everyone assumes I was highly fertile.
DS born when I was 25. Nearly three years trying.
DS born when I was 29. Two and a half years trying.
DS born when I was 31. Only one year trying!
DD born when I was 39. Completely unplanned and a great surprise!

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 24/09/2019 11:08

Golly, no one who has posted took more than 6 months.

OP, for balance - I am 40, have been trying over a year with no success at all. I do have endometriosis though.

Clawdy · 24/09/2019 11:10

BoomBoom look at my post!

nobigotsallowed · 24/09/2019 11:12

Sound, wow. I think I come from a rather fertile family too, but as I said up thread, I'm not sure if this is just coincidence or if fertility can be hereditary. My mum got pregnant both times within a couple of months, I'm told and my sister fell pg almost immediately the first time and her second was unplanned (failed contraception) My dc was unplanned and her dad and I were not in a good place and rarely slept together.

  1. Nearly 2 years. Stuck at one, never regretted it.
SunnivaGunne · 24/09/2019 11:41

DC1 conceived at age 29. Ttc 1 month. Healthy baby born at 39 + 5.
DC2 conceived at 35. Ttc 3 years, Clomid. Miscarried at 9 weeks.
DC3 conceived at 36. Ttc 4 long years. Healthy baby born (on my 37th birthday) at 38 weeks.

A baby was born in my nearest hospital, a couple of weeks ago, to a 54 year old mother Shock which makes my 37 seem very young!

notso · 24/09/2019 11:44

DC1, 18 unplanned,
DC2 23, three cycles but had to wait 6 months before that for period to return after years on depo.
DC3 29 had coil removed and two days later the period from hell. Pregnant just over three weeks later
DC4 30 unplanned was still breastfeeding DC3 and not had a period.

HelloDoris · 24/09/2019 11:46

DC1 30 and first time
DC2 32 an accident but a very happy and welcome one

Sent the DH for the snip as I did not want anymore happy accidents.

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 24/09/2019 11:57

@Clawdy - yes, I think we posted around the same time!

underneaththeash · 24/09/2019 12:01

30 with my 1st (not planned on pill!)
32 with 2nd - 1st cycle
35 with 3rd - 2nd cycle

OccidentalPurist · 24/09/2019 12:12

You are not too old OP!!

I was 37 when we started TTC. It took me 18 months - I returned from a month long holiday in Australia and fell pregnant, so I always think I was maybe too stressed with work before that.

We started TTC my second when I was 41! Within 3 months I'd had an ectopic (but insisted on keeping my tubes) followed by a failed pregnancy, but successfully conceived soon after that, just past my 42 birthday!

Hope it all goes well!
