How old were you when you had your DCs and how long did it take you to conceive?

Hi,

So I won't babble on, but in short, I'm 35 and considering having my second DC (already have an almost teenager 😌 so big age gap) but as l have just gone over the 'safety zone' in terms of fertility and because we're a ss couple, so require donor sperm, I'm worried that we're going to struggle.

I realise that everyone is different and I'm probably in a different situation to most on here, but nevertheless, I would just like to hear your experiences, generally.

I keep getting raised eyebrows when I tell people we're considering extending our family, as if I'm mad to have left it this late. Someone said I'd be crazy to start over again and I should just enjoy getting my life back while still relatively young. But.... they're part of your life forever aren't they? You're never "free" in that sense.

Philomena, can I ask, do you enjoy having dcs of such varied ages? I often wonder what kind of relationship my dc would have with a baby sibling as a teen. She insists she insists she'd love a baby in the house (they have no idea we're considering this btw) and the, she's always been desperate to be a big sister.

I find that my younger 2 really bond with DS1. Because of family stuff, DD2 hasn't seen DD1 since she was a baby, and DS2 has never met her, but DD1's back in touch now.

DS1 and DD2 bond over Pokemon, and DS1 and DS2 bond over Lego. We don't see enough of DS1 as he has cystic fibrosis and can't get out much, and DS2 has ADHD and would go hyper if out for too long, but when they're together, it's lovely.

Pregnant at 42: instant.

Hello , I was 36 with my first and 38 with my second. First conceived in first month, second in second month, we were lucky!! It's usually fine at that age, really! The statistics for conception are quite low whatever age and I wouldn't worry about gen. Abnormalities til mid 40s. Most are ok!! Go for it of you want to- it's your life 🌈

28 6 months

Miscarriage at 25. Had DS at 26 and took a month to get pregnant. Just had the one.

First conceived age 31 (32 when the baby was born) conceived first cycle after coming off pill after 15 years on it! Second conceived age 35 after 3 months.

Without even reading other replies I bet I will be the oldest on here :)

DC1, 42, Exactly one year of ttc
DC2, 43, first month
DC3, 45, first month

I'm now 46 with a 4 year old, 2 year old and 8 month old and I love it! :)

Take no notice of other people, I've had many people tell me I must be insane to have three in my 40's and they would never have the energy blah blah...but I do.

33 and first attempt. My DS was 35 and first attempt

DC1, I was 35 and got pregnant first month of trying; DC2 I was 38 and it took a few months (but I was still breastfeeding DC1 at that point)

32 with my first. First month trying. I got pregnant twice again at 34 and had 2 early mc. Got pregnant again at 35 and had a baby just before I turned 36.

I got pregnant the last 3 months within a few months.
