What is the most awful food you have eaten?

Just that really.
Dp once made burgers bulked out with weetabix that were vile and ended up in the bin🤮 and also a slow cooker beef and veg stew with water and no stock.
I once made a Chinese tofu vegan dish from an American cookbook that looked like cat 🐈 sick and also went straight into the bin without a taste( brave dp tasted it and said it was ok)

I also made a tuna lasagne from a budget cookbook that was rank.

I went to an authentic Chinese restaurant with my Chinese friend and she ordered pigs ears. They came out cold which really shocked me and I had one bite then had to politely spit it in my napkin whilst she was looking the other way..she asked afterwards if I minded if she took the rest home..I was like 'noooo fill your boots!' 🤣

Howaboutthisone · 18/09/2019 21:38

Coriander seeds 😷

OrangeSamphire · 18/09/2019 21:39

Bakewell tart.

Although beef yogurt sounds like the worst thing ever Grin

I don't know why I forgot. Egg snot. Utterly vile and renders everything else on the plate inedible as well as itself

VetOnCall · 18/09/2019 21:46

Paddy1234 I worked with a couple of Swedes a few years ago and they told me about opening a can of surstromming. The descriptions were hilarious. There are some funny videos on YouTube as well!

Pinkarsedfly · 18/09/2019 21:49

Undiluted condensed mushroom soup. Hot salty snotty spunky jelly.

Thanks dad.

ElizaPancakes · 18/09/2019 21:52

This thread is making me feel bilious.

I’m not a particularly fussy eater, but I’m not too adventurous. I wouldn’t be able to even try toad, god the thought is making me want to vomit.

I don’t actually know what the worst thing I’ve eaten was. I was pretty surprised when the pieces of chicken in my soup turned out to be uncooked sweet potato.

FairyDust92 · 18/09/2019 21:53

Unpopular opinion but cheese. Vile stuff

mineofuselessinformation · 18/09/2019 21:55

As a student living in as a lodger, I was once served faggots that were still basically frozen on the middle. No-one at the table said a word.
I got out of there as soon as I could!

notso · 18/09/2019 21:56

I've never heard anyone say anything good about andouillette, just loads of horror stories and descriptions of how hideous it tastes!

cricketmum84 · 18/09/2019 21:58

@PutYourBackIntoit that would be a great recipe for a Halloween party if you could adjust the seasoning and use a proper tomato pasta sauce!!

Clawdy · 18/09/2019 22:00

Dinner party at next door with lovely French neighbour who served up tunafish sausages as a starter. Couldn't bring myself to even taste them, and felt awful.

AdaColeman · 18/09/2019 22:01

MIL's savoury mince (probably her signature dish).

She made up a packet of neon yellow savoury rice mixture, and plated it up with a spoon of tinned mince in gravy in the centre of each plate. But she thought it needed a finishing touch, so leaving the plates on the side, she made up a packet mix of parsley sauce, which she spooned over the now lukewarm meat.
Not a meal I ever want to repeat!

A very pungent oily Norwegian smoked fish pate was only given a quick lick before being binned, tasted like waste sump oil from a trawler.

Though I love lots of the things mentioned here, oysters, whelks, blue cheese etc.

AragonsGirl · 18/09/2019 22:08

My husband made smoked mackerel and lentil kedgeree once...over cooked lentils and far too much mackerel! I couldn’t eat it, he persevered for a few mouthfuls then we binned the lot!

Freyanna · 18/09/2019 22:08

Liver curry at a friend's dinner party.

I have never eaten liver again.

milliefiori · 18/09/2019 22:13

On a P&O ferry I ordered a baked potato. It was so overcooked, it was oversalted slime. I took it back, complained very nicely and asked for soup instead. I took one sip and, genuinely, it tasted and smelled as if someone had urinated in it, so I took it back and told them this and they just nodded as though it was perfectly possible that someone had. They gave me my money back and I just went hungry. Vilest half mouthfuls of anything I've ever eaten.

DrCoconut · 18/09/2019 22:14

I once had a lemon mousse that was unbearably bitter. I also had awful stomach ache after, despite not finishing it so I wonder if there was something wrong. It was a posh place too. Pig fry at my grandparents house was grim too. I find the smell of meat cooking horrible but offal is particularly vile. More recently I managed to mistake horseradish sauce for bread sauce at a carvery. The lighting was all ambient. I like both but in very different quantities Grin

Gingerkittykat · 18/09/2019 22:16

My cousin's tuna crunch, some kind of bizarre casserole with egg noodles baked with tuna and topped with god knows what. It has become a dish of family legend and has been the basis of much hilarity over the years.

That cousin's DDs Christmas leftover soup, imagine yesterdays leftover turkey, sprouts and roasties all boiled together. Luckily she also saw the humour in its awfulness.

Oysters, taste like blow jobs.

I have a can of Norwegian fish balls which I am too scared to open, apparently they are made of cartilage and bone.

Cantstopgrazing · 18/09/2019 22:17

Curly kale. Tasted like tabacco. Envy

Monkeyplanet · 18/09/2019 22:19

Shirataki konjac noodles when I was low carbing. Tasted like plastic and detailed my diet completely as I wanted real pasta and not pretend pasta and decided life was too short to torture myself

catwithflowers · 18/09/2019 22:21

I didn’t mind durian šŸ™ˆ One of the most unusual things I have tasted. But at least it’s a fruit! I eat most things but baulk at kidney and bones in fish.

itstrue · 18/09/2019 22:31

@Paddy1234 I have eaten surstromming! Do not shake your can and it's recommended to open it under water so it doesn't explode.

I'm pretty sure it beats toad soup and French sausage!

ElizaPancakes · 18/09/2019 22:41

Why do I keep coming back to this thread?!

Natsel84 · 18/09/2019 22:42

Chickpea cake Confused

narcissistseverywhere · 18/09/2019 22:51

Egg tarts from a Chinese bakery in Malaysia, delicious sweet filling, pastry cooked in some kind of pig fat (tasted just like bacon)

Seafood noodles in Bangkok, containing huge lumps of jelly fish
