Just that really.
Dp once made burgers bulked out with weetabix that were vile and ended up in the bin🤮 and also a slow cooker beef and veg stew with water and no stock.
I once made a Chinese tofu vegan dish from an American cookbook that looked like cat 🐈 sick and also went straight into the bin without a taste( brave dp tasted it and said it was ok)

I also made a tuna lasagne from a budget cookbook that was rank.

Liver. Horrid meat that should be banned.

horse4course · 18/09/2019 20:14

Also andouillete @HarimadSol @perpetuallyperplexedbylife

Sausage made from intestines. Unmistakable 'towards the end of the gut' flavour Confused

A friend at school had a dippy grandad who made sandwiches with lard instead of cheese. Big slices of lard

I feel terrible saying this but the worst food I've ever eaten has been when others have invited me for a meal. Friends plain omelette - undercooked, greasy and filled with chunks of raw onion. I pretended I heard a knock at the door and filled my bag for life up with it while she went to investigate. Another friend presented me with something called 'tuna horseshoe'. Tin of tuna in oil (undrained) mixed with tinned toms (uncooked) in filo pastry. There was no getting out of that one.

Boiled courgette. The only food that has actually made me vomit. Horrible texture and the flavour is just wrong.
Blue cheese. Especially stilton. It stinks like old socks left to rot and tastes so vile. I really don't get it.
I've eaten a number of things mentioned on this thread and been ok. Blue cheese? Heck no.

MsTSwift · 18/09/2019 20:50

Gwyneth Paltrows chickpea and lamb thing. Kids complained and I said stop fussing eat it up. Then dh and I had for our tea. Inedible.
In hotel in rural India for breakfast they mixed up sugar and salt I had sugared scrambled egg. Just 🤢

WellTidy · 18/09/2019 20:52

A sausage roll from a roadside petrol station in Western Australia, on our way down the coast from Monkey Mia towards Perth. It was basically minced something with gristle and gelatine and was absolutely rancid. I should have guessed when the lady working on the till looked reluctant to serve me it. I bought it to take away, got in the car and took a bite and had no option but to spit it back out and I have never done anything like that before or since. It was vile.

TinyTickler · 18/09/2019 20:52

An Indian meal in a restaurant recently in Nottinghamshire. It was like something from the 90s with red food colouring added to a tomato based sauce. Vile.

That and a friend one made fajitas by warming up plain chicken in a microwave and serving it with the wraps and salsa but none of the seasoning, and tacos made with kwik save value mince, again seasoning in the bin, salsa mixed into the revolting cheap mince.

Completely inedible.

fia101 · 18/09/2019 20:56

Chinese stew made with intestines - didn't realise until I started chewing and chewing and chewing and someone told me. Grim.

WhatHaveIFound · 18/09/2019 21:02

Isthebigwomanhere - I'm with you on the camel. It was like chewing on a piece of leather. At the same meal i turned down the offer of sheep's brain.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD - Watch out if you ever go to Finland as we though we were going to be tucking into tasty doughnuts but they turned out to be full of meat puree!

baldpate · 18/09/2019 21:05

Cheese (any) 🤢🤢🤢

Patienceisvirtuous · 18/09/2019 21:08

I’m fascinated by this thread.

Too many for me to mention. Mil is an awful cook. Her breakfasts are the worst - slimy undercooked eggs, cold toast laden with marg, pink sausages 🤢

PutYourBackIntoit · 18/09/2019 21:12

DH once made the kids tagliatelle covered in ketchup, which he baked in a stale hollowed out white loaf. He triumphantly sliced it open, and the kids gasped that it looked like slices of brain. DH had a right go at them for bring ungrateful. He'd followed a recipe, it took him ages, only a few substitutions yadda yadda. I tried it, it was foul 🤢 He was in such a bad mood about it, I had to pretend it was tasty 😬

Mehmehmeh19 · 18/09/2019 21:12

I once made a lentil curry! Was hotter than the sun to taste.
With the texture of sticky mush. I could have grouted the kitchen with it.

namestar · 18/09/2019 21:14

Abalone in Hong Kong. It was absolutely rank!

Paddy1234 · 18/09/2019 21:14

Andouillette - another one for this!
The only food that I was nearly sick and couldn't eat and spat it in my tissue.
It's a white French sausage.
As soon as I saw the thread came in to say that and not surprised that another had the same reaction!

VetOnCall · 18/09/2019 21:17

Cocotero in Peru. Otherwise known as palm weevil larvae. It's considered impolite to refuse them when offered but the involuntary gagging as I tried to swallow it without chewing probably wasn't the height of good manners either.

Choking was preferable to the thought of it bursting in my mouth though 🤢

DelurkingAJ · 18/09/2019 21:17

Durian

AltheaVestr1t · 18/09/2019 21:19

Whelks. Sea cucumber. Fungee.

Paddy1234 · 18/09/2019 21:20

Oh god - google up surstromming - it's supposed to be the worst food in the world. I have a tin awaiting in my shed to be opened and I can't bring myself to do it!
It can't be sent on an aircraft! I think I will get my teenagers to open it šŸ˜‚

Rocket1982 · 18/09/2019 21:20
  1. Fish air bladder - horrendous texture; (2) Japanese Nato - horrendous taste and horrendous texture
BeepBeeep · 18/09/2019 21:23

Goat curry 🤮
Guinnea pig 🤢

WalkingInTheAir13 · 18/09/2019 21:24

Andouillettes - yet AGAIN!

It tastes like a pig has trotted straight into a sausage machine and come out of the other end as Andouillettes incorporating whiskers, snout, trotters and insides.
Yuck and beyond vile!

Pinkarsedfly · 18/09/2019 21:24

Andouillette.

No question. Although I’m not sure I ate any as the smell of literal shit that rose up from the plate kinda put me off Envy

Craftycorvid · 18/09/2019 21:28

Oh no, the poor poor toads!Shock I like toads and they have lovely brown eyes. Most memorably grim meal has to be one of DH’s ā€˜concoctions’. Bless him, but he has form for evil mixtures of leftovers, and this one was pasta plus a chinese beansprout thing in yellow bean sauce. It resembled roadkill, tasted awful and made me ill Envy (definitely not envy).

Sooverthemill · 18/09/2019 21:28

Fermented prawn paste in a Burmese restaurant. It was vile. 1991 and I can still taste it.

Recently tried kimchi. Won't be eating that again.
