What is the most awful food you have eaten?

Just that really.
Dp once made burgers bulked out with weetabix that were vile and ended up in the bin🤮 and also a slow cooker beef and veg stew with water and no stock.
I once made a Chinese tofu vegan dish from an American cookbook that looked like cat 🐈 sick and also went straight into the bin without a taste( brave dp tasted it and said it was ok)

I also made a tuna lasagne from a budget cookbook that was rank.

Hospital food long stay, poor quality ingredients flavourless tiny portions. Any pasta dish was particularly bad just tasted of wet slime with hint of cheese

Isthebigwomanhere · 18/09/2019 17:42

Camel . It was truly vile

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/09/2019 17:43

Not sure how to tell the difference between a toad and a frog. We had a resident jumpy ribbity ribbity thing in the garden for years when I was small. I assumed it was a frog but I may have been a toad. It didn’t have a name...

Cotechino sausage - yuck! Couldn't get it down.

barryfromclareisfit · 18/09/2019 17:52

Fish pie, as made by my then mil. Imagine a layer of flaked frozen fish, a layer of instant mash, topped with ready made cheese sauce. I tried. I vomited.

French bread pizza (a novelty from the freezer in the eighties) with a side of silverskin onions in white wine sauce. Her son’s idea of a meal for his pregnant wife who had all day morning sickness.

StoatofDisarray · 18/09/2019 17:58

Spaghetti with tomato sauce in the 1970s, cooked by my mums friend Liz (not out of the tin, dried pasta).

She boiled it until the pasta had lost it's shape and basically served up plates full of lumpy pasta water with a well of insipid tomato sauce in the middle.

She was a terrible cook and a nasty bully as well. That was a particularly grim meal.

midsomermurderess · 18/09/2019 17:59

Land snail, somewhere in Africa. Truly grim. Like a gritty, muddy paste of earth.

cricketmum84 · 18/09/2019 18:03

Slimming world recipe for beef stroganoff.

Fab if you like beef yoghurt. Not so fab if you have normal tastes!

FannyBiggetywitch · 18/09/2019 18:04

Goats cheese šŸ˜–

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 18/09/2019 18:06

Ate a vegan brownie someone baked at work today, it was the most disgusting thing ever, not sure if it was because it was vegan or just a bad recipe but seriously vom

Climbingwindmill · 18/09/2019 18:07

Sweet and sour pork from PiL’s favourite Chinese.
It tasted like dog food. (I’ve never eaten dog food obv but it smelled much the same and tasted absolutely rank)

funmummy48 · 18/09/2019 18:08

My mother used to cook a sardine bake which had a tin of sardines in tomato sauce in it and chopped cucumber, mixed together with sweet corn and baked in the oven. It was a staple of our diet & was truly vile! 😳

ThePolishWombat · 18/09/2019 18:10

@cricketmum84 just the words ā€œbeef yoghurtā€ has made my s stomach churn a little Confused

SunshineDays2019 · 18/09/2019 18:11

Fish curry made with tinned sardines complete with bones. It was vile and made by DPs friend who was quite an odd character. The whole atmosphere of the evening was strange, never to be repeated!

Bobbybobbins · 18/09/2019 18:13

Pasta covered with icing sugar in Hungary - interesting!

My mum made seafood pancakes without realising they were sweet pancakes 🤢

CottonSock · 18/09/2019 18:14

Chicken feet at a Chinese New year meal. Gristle, skin and fat.
Won't even try oysters.
A mouthful of fish scales when I didn't realise i needed to descale the fish.

DinoroarDinosaur · 18/09/2019 18:15

A weird potato/meat dish in Lithuania. It was essentially a shiny potato jelly (I'm not sure how you jellify potato) surrounding a very pink lump of meat which smelt like cat food. It was repulsive. The Polish woman I was with refused to eat it and was almost sick at the smell of it. I had a mouthful but it truly was vile.

darkcloudsandrainstorms · 18/09/2019 18:16

A cream cake. Food poisoning. Never ate another !

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/09/2019 18:18

A so-called 'Caesar Salad' in a very odd country hotel. It had whole radishes and coconut shavings (!) in it, along with about 3 tablespoons of salt. Ironically, I'd ordered it because I thought it was the safe option...

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/09/2019 18:18

This may not count but I was in a part London that had lots of ā€˜ethnic’ bakeries and I was hungry.

I bought what I thought was a lovely apple turnover (it had a name I didn’t recognise). Mmmmm. I took a big bite. It was some type of sour, sloppy cheese in sweet pastry with sugar on top. I was most disappointed.

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/09/2019 18:18

A tea my best friend's mum made in the 80s. Cold chicken (fine) with chips that were pale, barely cooked and slimy, with cabbage boiled for about an hour.
I'd been taught to eat everything on my plate when at a friend's house so I forced it down. Was barely over the horror when we got luke-warm tapioca pudding afterwards. Honestly had the texture of old vomit.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 18/09/2019 18:25

I need to book mark this and read when hungry and tempted to stray from diet
Can’t think of mine. Been non meat eating for 20 years + most vile stuff seems animal based!
