Have you ever noticed a blip in the matrix?

When I was at university we were driving through and unfamiliar part of town. We noticed a school child running and then when he stopped another child further along the road started. This then happened again with a third child. They were in school uniforms, not sports kits and they didn’t seem to interact with each other. My friend noticed it too and at the time we couldn’t stop laughing. Has anyone else got any stories similar? Blips in the matrix.

I do know on MN story about someone seeing their older selves and then their younger selves outside their childhood home!

A couple of years ago DH, the DC and I stayed in a premier inn in Brighton. In the morning we checked out and went off to explore only to realise about an hour later that DS had left something in the room we stayed in. We went back to the hotel but we couldn’t find it - we went up and down the street where it was but there was nothing, no signs or any indication that it had been there.
Eventually we realised that in the hour or so between us checking out and us returning they had closed the hotel for renovations, removed all the signage and put up scaffolding hiding the entrance. It was really strange as there was no indication that that was their intention when we left, it seemed to be a perfectly functional, normal hotel and then it wasn’t there.

@hardyloveit I've experienced a similar thing, a handful of times as a kid but only a few times as an adult. I'd be watching something on TV, usually not paying much attention (EastEnders) and think this storyline doesn't make much sense, not think much of until weeks later, I watch the exact same thing. It didn't make much sense the first time I saw it because it was an episode far ahead of the current storyline. I put it down to some scheduling error, but thought it odd. After it had happened a few more times, always with fictional dramas/soaps I asked my dad (worked in TV) how common it was for the wrong episode to be aired. He said it never happens and should it, there would be a big outcry from fans. The last time this happened was listening to capital FM breakfast show about 6 years ago. The DJs we're talking some daft drivel with someone calling in, a few days later I had to hear it all again, word for word. Annoyingly this glitch has never happened with lottery numbers...here's hoping.

Years ago at a beach near to Bognor Regis I saw a large, heavily listing sailing ship (old fashioned pirate style) a few miles out at sea. I later discovered that an identical ship had sunk in almost the same spot, many years before.

When we were on holidays in Portugal last year there was a taxi strike in the town we were staying in.
We went to the beach but got lost on the way back. It was hot, we were tired and the children were fed up.
We were on the street trying to decide what to do and tempers were frayed.
DH was insisting we keep walking even though we didn't know how far away from our apartment we were and i was trying to convince him to wait.
I said 'wait just one more minute because a taxi is about to come round that bend and pick us up'.
I stepped out to the side of the street, raised my hand and a taxi came round the bend, pulled in and took us back.
My kids were stunned into silence. They think it was witchcraft. There weren't even supposed to be taxis working that day.

As a child, I looked out of the landing window and saw my neighbour opposite was up a ladder, cleaning his upstairs window. I ran to my bedroom and he was at the bottom of the ladder. I ran back to the landing and he was at the top of the ladder. I ran back to my bedroom and he was at the bottom of the ladder. And so on for a while.

There are some fantastic reddit threads and associated YouTube videos on this. It's fascinating! And utterly terrifying.

I bounced on a trampoline and passed out mid-jump. Had a dream. Woke up on the trampoline 2 seconds later but it felt like I'd been out ages. Everyone said I just sort of... Flopped and it was very weird. Anyway, my "dream" came true, exactly, about 5 min later.

I don't know what happened to me but it's never happened again. I was about 11.

Honflyr · 27/08/2019 23:51

I used to visit my mum every other weekend, she had a cat... About a week before I was due to visit, I had a dream that I was in her kitchen with my brother and the cat was meowing to be fed. In the dream, we were opening all the cupboards saying "but mum, there's no cat food, this is all DOG food!"

Week later, mum picks me up in car, I mention that oh yeah I had a funny dream that you bought the cat dog food. The look on her face!!! Turned out for the past week she had been feeding the cat dog food, by complete accidence and she felt like a complete numpty. It had been her thing she was going to tell me to make me laugh... I somehow already knew (kind of!).

She really couldn't believe it... You know when someone tells you they dreamed something you've just done and you brush it off as misremembering and making something out of nothing? Well, she couldn't because I told her before she'd mentioned anything to do with the cat or the dog food, she was stunned.

Pinkkahori · 27/08/2019 23:51

Forgot to say was the reason I was so sure a taxi would come was because I had the strongest feeling of being in that exact scene before. Almost like we had rehearsed it but it's not possible as it was my first time in Portugal and we had never taken the kids abroad before.

FrankiesKnuckle · 28/08/2019 00:00

This didn't happen to me but my dad.... I was early teens, it was early evening and the doorbell rang. My dad never answers the door but did so on this occasion.
He came back to the lounge (extension at the back of the house) as white as a sheet. My mum said, well who was it? And he quietly said 'me'.....

Apparently this had happened to my dad once before, years prior to this.

Also, my quite disabled sibling talking 'normally' in the middle of the night, and his door handle turning (he can't walk at all......)

Years ago during the summer holidays, I had a really random dream. It was about this coffee shop, but the coffee shop was in a conservatory with little stained glass panels on the edges of the windows. What was bizarre about it though was that it was joined onto a newsagent. So you would walk into the shop, pass through the rows of newspapers and boxes of Tangy Toms, and find yourself in this conservatory. I woke up thinking 1) what an odd dream and 2) what an odd idea for a coffee shop.

A few days later my mum announces she wants to go on a day trip to this seaside town I allegedly visited as a toddler but have no recollection of. We show up and start looking for somewhere to have coffee.

Lo and behold - there it is. A conservatory filled with tables, and a big sign over the door saying "newsagent and coffee shop". I walked in and it was exactly as it was in the dream - right down to the position of the items on the shelves. The only thing missing was the stained glass.

I've been to the town since and every time I see that shop I get a cold shiver.

dayswithaY. Would that be the M180 by any chance? It drains me too.

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 28/08/2019 01:08

The early morning of the day my aunt died I could have sworn I woke up and saw her standing at the foot of my bed looking at me. I did not know she had died until the next day when my Dad phoned me. She lived quite far away and I had not seen her in about 10 years. Very freaky, but not at all scary. I felt she was wishing me good things.

Oliversmumsarmy · 28/08/2019 01:33

I was watching TV and the news was on saying someone famous had been shot.

It showed the area it had happened and that they were ok.

Didn't think any more on it till a few weeks later. News came on and it was the same news broadcast.
I was very confused. I couldn't get my mind round it.
I was insistent that it had already happened
and they were running an old broadcast.

Recently driving home late at night down country lanes I saw something and actually turned the car round to go back to help only there was nothing there.

The following day the road was closed as a terrible incident had occurred about 2 hours after I had "seen" the scene. It was exactly as I had seen it

NoMoreMarbles · 28/08/2019 01:45

I went to a garden centre with my mum and dad and twice while we were looking along the aisles a man(different man each time) was stopped close behind my dad in almost identical clothes and hair and in profile to where I was standing same stance as my dad... I thought there was a mirror behind my dad and then had a double take when the man turned and walked away! I definitely didn't imagine it as my quick witted 13 year old laughed and said "did you just see that too? At least if we lose grandad in here we know there's a spare!" Grin

HeartshapedFox · 28/08/2019 02:00

I remember reading an interview with Jools Holland, of all the random people, a few years ago where he said that when he was younger he witnessed a car accident between two very similar cars, and when he went to help it turned out that the families in each car also had the surname Holland. Weird.

BanningTheWordNaice · 28/08/2019 02:12

A few months ago my boyfriend and I were walking to the station to see a (distinctive) guy wheeling his suitcase to the station. When we returned that evening we saw the same guy wheeling his suitcase on the same path to the station hours later.

dayswithaY · 28/08/2019 08:11

Hi not it's not the M180 this road just goes on forever like you can never leave it then suddenly you're at a roundabout and it's over.

AmateurSwami · 28/08/2019 08:18

It turned out they were twins and had bought the cars new for fun when they saw them, they’d also been watching us for ages with our near identical car in fascination.

I know twins that did this @Clovk ! Theirs were new and not that rare though!

AmateurSwami · 28/08/2019 08:24

I still remember this when I watched A film sequel of all things at the cinema. Turned to my friend and said “why are they repeating whole scenes from the first one?” They weren’t, I had just seen it before. Before the days of youtube etc.

Not so much spooky but definitely gut instinct.

I take part in a competitive sport, I've done it since I was a child and other than the usual nerves before I go in I'm usually pretty confident. One day I had been away for a few days at a competition and the last day I had the most awful nerves, I was sick, upset stomach, tearful, and I really, really didn't want to do it. My friends all thought I'd gone mad, especially being the last day and convinced me to do it.

I had a freak accident that couldn't have been predicted (ie wasn't down to my nerves) and broke my leg in 4 places and now I can no longer compete.
I genuinely think it was my subconscious screaming at me not to do it.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 28/08/2019 09:04

we were on our way to collect my new (to me) car , at about half way and both dh and I looked at one another as MY car roared by, we did not get the full reg but the first section was exactly the same

Dh was furious as he thought the dealer was taking it out for one last jaunt and we'd be hanging about waiting for him to come back with it

When we got into town my car was there waiting, engine was cold, as I deliberately felt it to check

Never seen that other car from that day to this and it's a hugely distinctive colour and I do a lot of local miles!

Dh reckons it was a time slip of me zipping by in the future. :o
