Have you ever noticed a blip in the matrix?

When I was at university we were driving through and unfamiliar part of town. We noticed a school child running and then when he stopped another child further along the road started. This then happened again with a third child. They were in school uniforms, not sports kits and they didn’t seem to interact with each other. My friend noticed it too and at the time we couldn’t stop laughing. Has anyone else got any stories similar? Blips in the matrix.

I do know on MN story about someone seeing their older selves and then their younger selves outside their childhood home!

Here's one that in any other circumstances I'd find woo but under the actual circumstances... not so much now in the cold light of day. 2 days later.

A few days ago we were stuck in Turkey due to the collapse of Thomas Cook. Luckily, being ATOL protected, we hoped that our TC flight would be replaced and sure enough it was although rather last minute. This was a night flight, Thursday night/Friday morning. The transfer had been over three hours and security at Antalya airport was extreme and prolonged, all adding to our fatigue I'm sure. We couldn't see the plane when we got on it as it was dark but I was immediately aware that it was bigger than usual (as I've only ever done short haul flights) and the decor was odd and dated, with strange, old-fashioned carpet patterned upholstery. The flight attendants wore old fashioned-type turquoise uniforms (which DP commented made them look like 70s porn stars.. both genders Grin

We weren't expecting our in-flight meal (which has gone with the rest of Thomas Cook's assets) but instead, we were somewhat pleasantly surprised to be provided with a snack at no extra charge.. which turned out to be strange little seeded rolls with barely any filling, pretzels and little cups of juice.

It was all a bit surreal and dated but we didn't really speak of this at 40,000 feet!! When we landed, it was light at Gatwick and the plane turned out to be a plain white jumbo jet with no logos of any kind and the words "ghost plane" went through my mind dramatically GrinGrin)

The flight operator turned out to be Hi Fly, a perfectly normally "wet lease" airline obviously hurriedly hired by the Civil Aviation Authority to get us home and we are very grateful but all in all, in our tired and slightly stressed states we all agreed the whole experience felt a little surreal and weird.

I knew that my grandfather had died before I was told.
We were very close and I spent a lot of time with him when I was growing up.
I was adopted and had more issues than vogue surrounding that and the fact my adoptive mother ran off and left when I was only 4.
My DF was in the airforce, so I'd stay with my grandparents for months at a time if he was deployed.
He was a lovable old grump and when we would be watching TV in the evening would just pick up the remote and randomly change channels and find something new to watch.
Sometimes if I was enjoying the program I'd say oh grumps ( my nickname for him ) and he would say when you can pay for a TV set and the electricity and taxes etc you can have a say.
It used to drive me mad but as I got older into adulthood I used to laugh about it.
He never would let the remote out of his hand !
One evening , a few months after my eldest DS was born I was watching a movie on the tv on my own ( H was on a night shift ) and all of a sudden the TV started to randomly change channels for about 15 minutes.
Instantly I knew he was dead.
I said oh grumps and started crying and the tv switched back to the movie I was watching.
I couldn't find the remote though.
I rang my grandmother, who I've never had an easy relationship and said why didn't you ring me ?
Firstly she was very angry because she thought someone else had told me and when I told her she said that didn't surprise her because we always had an unnatural bond! We didn't . She was awful and emotionally abusive and he was my hero.
She said well you always made such a bloody fuss over him , you'd have come running for him but you wouldn't do that for me!
Bloody old bag had told my aunt she had called me as he was asking for me before and after he became very suddenly unwell.
His lasts words were is "morning" on her way ? My aunt was furious with me because she spent the last hours of his life calming him and thought I was just not bothering to come to the hospital!
I was heartbroken thinking he thought I'd abandoned him when he needed me most.
In the morning I found the remote was back on the arm of the sofa where it had been before it mysteriously disappeared the night before.
He did get to say goodbye after all , so the wicked grandmother didn't get her way in the end and I never spoke to her again after the funeral.
She was cruel to him in life and cruel to him when she knew he was dying.
She always hated how close we were .
My DS having his name made her furious!
I'll never understand some people.
I was 33 when he died , he was 86.
Just over 12 years later I still miss him and hope that he will come back and annoy me with the remote again !

My PIL have a house on a corner. It is very old and has not been altered since the 1930s. Their front door and drive face a church on the opposite side of the road, or so I thought. The right side of the house has a garden and is opposite another house. This is how I clearly remember it. I have even driven out of the drive and remember seeing the church in my rear view mirror whilst reversing. We have stayed there many times.

Anyway, we went to visit them a few years ago and when we got to the house, it seemed different. In fact the front door and driveway were facing the house opposite, not the church as I'd remembered. I didn't say anything as I'd sound like a mad person.

So I unloaded the car and got the kids out. DS was 7 at this time. He stood there looking really confused and said, "Oh. I thought Grandma's house faced that way [pointing to the church]. It wasn't like this before."

So strange.

Drove a blue Triumph Dolomite and often drove through Greenwich Park (when you still could)>
DD rang me one day , a bit miffed as to why I didn't acknowledge him when he passed my car . Apparently I was driving and my DS was asleep in his car seat . Only thing is , we hadn't left the house all that day.

Still trawling through this thread but need to add mine before I forget.
When I was seventeen a school friend became really ill with what we were told was meningitis. She was the same age (actually turned 18 whilst in hospital) but for some reason ended up on the ward with old ladies. She had some other serious health issues so ended up being in for a good few weeks. This was in the days before internet and mobiles even so we had been writing to each other and calling on the landline as we didn't attend the same high school or college but had been friends since first class of primary school.
We visited most nights for weeks catching the bus up and just sitting with her. Holding her hand whilst she had unpleasant procedures like throat swabs. Someone died on the ward whilst we were visiting. It was really hard to sit with our friend and see all these 'old' people basically fading away.
Anyway one day a week or so in I spot my grandma on the ward in a bed diagonally opposite my friend. Except my grandma died when I was 11. This woman was the image of her, to the point that when my dad went in to see my friend he stopped dead and couldn't move when he saw her. The 'spell' was only broken when she spoke and didn't sound at all like my grandma who had had a strong voice and the lady had a 'whiny' voice. (I'd actually warned him of her but he thought I was exaggerating)

I went to Lancaster castle to hear ghost stories by candlelight one Halloween. One of the readers was the double of my mother who had passed away about 15 years before. She began telling a story and two of the lines made me shiver,
“Have you seen my mother?”
“I can’t find my mother.”
It was so odd because her resemblance to my mother had me completely transfixed to begin with. I will never forget that.

PulyaSochsup · 22/12/2019 23:32

Cabinet, I wonder if the Universe is allowing us to have glimpses of our long dead loved ones. Mine was a strange feeling experience but in hindsight it’s wonderful that those links can be made.

40somethingJBJ · 23/12/2019 17:59

I’ve posted this before a few times in various places, so if it appears to have been lifted from the internet, it has, but I wrote it first Grin

When I was about 14 and living with my parents, I lost my house keys whilst in town one day. There were 3 keys on there - a Yale one plus a big deadlock key for the front door and a Yale one for the back door - all on a United Colours of Benetton keyring with a pink wrist strap.

5 years later, I’ve left home and I’m working in another city, wearing a uniform and driving a car that I obviously didn’t have when I was 14. Walked into work one day and there on the side was a set of 3 keys on a pink Benetton keyring! I was really confused and drove my 3 colleagues mad trying to find out where the hell they'd appeared from, but nobody knew anything about them.

I took them home with me and, the next time I was at my parents house, I tried them out. They opened both doors! I cannot to this day come up with a rational explanation for this!

RoyEastmannKodak · 23/12/2019 22:03

@40somethingJBJ that's amazing!! God I'D love to know the explanation for that!! Shock

So I order a lot on Amazon (I'm trying to stop) and pretty much know most of the delivery drivers. I get a delivery from one of the more regular guys, he looks like he always does. Nothing strange there.

Anyway, after 20ish minutes he appears (or so I thought) in a very similar outfit, same van from same company and with the same hair with another parcel. I ask him if he forgot it the first time round? He looks at me like I have two heads and says he hasn't been to this part of the estate yet. Blush

Are amazon cloning delivery drivers? Are they robots? Am I unobservant? Who knows.

Years ago my sister got a distinctive jacket from TKMaxx. It was the only one in the shop.
A few years later she gave it to a charity shop. I remember clearly seeing it in the window and texting her saying her “ugly jacket”’ was on display. We live in a small town so it would have been a hell of a coincidence if someone gave the same jacket to the same charity shop around the same time.
A few months ago I was round my sisters house and she was doing out her wardrobe and the jacket was there hanging up! She had no idea how it got there as she remembered taking it to the charity shop and I saw it in the window.

I once woke from a vivid dream in which I'd been on a train with our stick insects in their net enclosure and one of them escaped. It was crawling around, I lost track of it and was looking under seats etc. Reckoned it had crawled out of the window. I woke up feeling a bit stressed, went back to sleep.
In the morning DS7 came in for a cuddle. 'I had a funny dream' he said. 'I was on a train platform going somewhere and then I found one of the stick insects!'
