Suggestions for what ‘Etta’ could be short for!

So me and the hubby are planning another baby very soon. One of the girls names I really like is ‘Etta’ but hubby is not convinced. He says it sounds like it should be short for something. I like it on its own but I get where he is coming from. We have an Alexander who is known as Xander. So it would make sense for any other children to have a diminutive.
I have suggested a few names, which he doesn’t like. And tbh I am not that keen on either!
What do you all think of the following? And do you have any other suggestions?

Henrietta
Violetta
Nicoletta
Elisabetta
Suzetta
Lysetta
Fiametta
Jeanetta / Gianetta

They're all awful! They're nearly elegant names but they have go faster stripes weighing them down.

What about Juliet Anne
Etienne?

Etienne is French for Stephen and is generally a boys name

Yes but it works as a girls name.

I know of someone who has a 3 year old daughter named Etta. After the singer Etta James. Why does it need to be a shortened version of something else if you like it?

Margaretta

E.T.A generally referred to as Eta (not the individual letters so sounds the same when spoken as Etta) is a terrorist group. Just so you are aware, it mat not bother you but I wouldn't name a baby essentially the same name as a terrorist group.

OP, bear in mind that although it’s a thing on MN that you choose your child’s nickname before they’re born, rather than allowing one to develop naturally, your child may choose to use their full name and reject Etta altogether.

You can have an Ette end easily and an Etta nickname!

Atalune · 05/08/2019 15:00

It does sound nice for a girl I agree but anyone who knows French might think it’s a bit wanky.

shumway · 05/08/2019 15:03

Etta James was Jamesetta Hawkins.
