Suggestions for what ‘Etta’ could be short for!

So me and the hubby are planning another baby very soon. One of the girls names I really like is ‘Etta’ but hubby is not convinced. He says it sounds like it should be short for something. I like it on its own but I get where he is coming from. We have an Alexander who is known as Xander. So it would make sense for any other children to have a diminutive.
I have suggested a few names, which he doesn’t like. And tbh I am not that keen on either!
What do you all think of the following? And do you have any other suggestions?

Henrietta
Violetta
Nicoletta
Elisabetta
Suzetta
Lysetta
Fiametta
Jeanetta / Gianetta

I had an Auntie Etta. She was a Henrietta, but was called Etta for all my father's living memory.

Etienne

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Etienne is a boy's name. It's like calling a girl Stephen.

I know a couple with a little Etta, they are quite pretentious and into Jazz. There was a lot of eye rolling at the name tbh.

Personally I don't mind it as a nickname but it doesn't work very well on its own.

My supervisor was called Henrietta
My Spanish friend is Elisabetta

ProfessorofPerspective · 06/08/2019 00:35

I have a Henrietta, fully intending to call her either Hettie or Etta, but neither happened in the end. I still love it.

Joaneta

I know an Eppie short for Euphemia.
Think I'd prefer Etta myself. I once used to work with a Lizetta which is a pretty name I believe of European origin (and she never shortened it)

I wouldn't name a baby essentially the same name as a terrorist group

That's Ira and Isis off the list then!

OP, how about Pancetta or Cerazetta?

Have a look at this link.

Josetta is nice, but you might risk her being called 'Jo' which you don't want.

Miette

ShatFic · 06/08/2019 07:05

There are a few Ettas in my DS's school, its getting quite popular where we are.
I like the name but we refer to them as Chickaletta after the chicken in Paw Patrol.

ExpletiveDelighted · 06/08/2019 07:16

I hear a newsreader's voice saying "Eta, the Basque terrorist group".

CCquavers · 06/08/2019 17:55

I know an Ettiana. Not sure if spelling
