Suggestions for what ‘Etta’ could be short for!

So me and the hubby are planning another baby very soon. One of the girls names I really like is ‘Etta’ but hubby is not convinced. He says it sounds like it should be short for something. I like it on its own but I get where he is coming from. We have an Alexander who is known as Xander. So it would make sense for any other children to have a diminutive.
I have suggested a few names, which he doesn’t like. And tbh I am not that keen on either!
What do you all think of the following? And do you have any other suggestions?

Henrietta
Violetta
Nicoletta
Elisabetta
Suzetta
Lysetta
Fiametta
Jeanetta / Gianetta

We knew a Carbetta (very old family name) shortened to Etta :)

My favourite name for a girl is Etalie.

MammaMia19 · 05/08/2019 15:55

I’m seconding vendetta 😂
Etta is a name on its own though, I wouldn’t try to make it longer to get dh to agree. Baby might like the full name and you could hate Etta. I really dislike my dds middle names now. I’d think of something else if he direct like Etta

Jacquetta

Henrietta is the only one on your list I would consider using.

Wingletang1 · 05/08/2019 16:46

Old school friend was called Juliette but everyone called her Etty

bluebeck · 05/08/2019 16:48

I am loving the Waynetta suggestion!!

What's your DH name OP? Just tag Etta onto the end of that Grin

PippaPug · 05/08/2019 17:33

Etta on its own its lovely

Junobug · 05/08/2019 18:03

I love Etta but my dh won't entertain it because of E.T.A. I also love Isis. Terrorist groups really shouldn't be allowed to call themselves girls names Wink.

Coconut0il · 05/08/2019 18:04

Bernadette?

DrEmilyCrabtree · 05/08/2019 18:06

My great grandmother was Rosetta

Cohle · 05/08/2019 18:15

If you like Etta just use that.

If you call her Henrietta etc you run a significant risk that she'll prefer Henry or whatever. You can't control nicknames.

Stompythedinosaur · 05/08/2019 18:30

I think Etta on its own is much nicer than any of the suggestions for longer names.

WitsEnding · 05/08/2019 18:33

My great-grandmother had a sister called Rosetta.

There was a song 'Rosetta are you better, are you well well well...'

Basque terrorists.

Etta is your granny's friend who is always hanging off a fag, goes on holiday to Benidorm, has none of her own teeth left and tells anyone who will listen about her varicose veins.

RightYesButNo · 05/08/2019 18:42

@HennyPennyHorror 😂 Potatetta? Spaghetta? Amaretta?

WellTidy · 05/08/2019 18:46

The only person I know called Etta is actually a Bernadette.

FrogFairy · 05/08/2019 18:49

My vote is for Marietta.

I knew an Etta and it wasn't short for anything. That was her name.
