Suggestions for what ‘Etta’ could be short for!

So me and the hubby are planning another baby very soon. One of the girls names I really like is ‘Etta’ but hubby is not convinced. He says it sounds like it should be short for something. I like it on its own but I get where he is coming from. We have an Alexander who is known as Xander. So it would make sense for any other children to have a diminutive.
I have suggested a few names, which he doesn’t like. And tbh I am not that keen on either!
What do you all think of the following? And do you have any other suggestions?

Henrietta
Violetta
Nicoletta
Elisabetta
Suzetta
Lysetta
Fiametta
Jeanetta / Gianetta

It's a nick name associated with Henriette/Henrietta, or Harriet

Justajot · 05/08/2019 19:02

If you're planning to only use the shortened version, then it's got to be Vendetta.

I love Etta but unfortunately my DP is a top level table tennis coach and ETTA stands for the English table tennis association

Waynetta with Spudulica as a middle name (topical)

Loyaultemelie · 05/08/2019 19:52

It used to be a shortening of Henrietta but now is just a name in its own right. (According to dhs 2 closely related Auntie Ettas)

Ellmau · 05/08/2019 20:04

Aliette

I think it's occasionally used as a nickname for Esther.

I know an adult Etta whose full name is Henrietta. And a child who is just Etta.

ProperVexed · 05/08/2019 20:38

Henrietta is lovely. ''Twas on my list but I had boys. Some might say fortunately!

EnidButton · 05/08/2019 20:49

Viennetta

(Mint flavour obviously)

JamieLeeBee · 05/08/2019 20:58

I was going to suggest Vienetta but someone wisely suggested mint flavour before me.

Of course you could simply amend the spelling to make it less obvious, thus naming the baby Vee Anne Etta!

My DD is called Etta. Love the name and we chose it for several reasons. Not short for anything, just Etta.

Know a few Italian ladies called Benedetta

user1493494961 · 05/08/2019 21:31

Marietta is pretty. Juliette, Harriet or Violet would work.

hopewardrobe · 05/08/2019 21:40

I know a lovely Etienne known as Ettie

hairyturkey · 05/08/2019 21:53

Juliet is brill. As is Etta on its own.

LongPurples · 05/08/2019 22:04

How about Giulietta?

Jamhandprints · 05/08/2019 22:06

It is the name of the Basque terrorist organisation in Spain.
