stupid fucking things you did as a teenager...

Not as in sex/drugs/alcohol or whatever but just general ridiculousness. I used to:

  • leave my straighteners ON every morning so they'd be on ALL DAY just so when I came in from school they would be hot enough to re-straighten my hair immediately. Confused God forbid I go twenty seconds with unstraightened hair. When I think of the fire risk!!!!
  • Refuse to wear my coat even in 3 degree weather because it wasn't cool to wear your coat
  • Carry my PE kit to school in a JD sports bag because that was the done thing, despite having a perfectly good rucksack
  • At one point, teeny tiny little Nike "just do it" backpacks were in but they weren't big enough to fit any of your stuff in. So I used to carry on e about (which just held my pencil case and my keys) and carry all my books seperately in my arms

I can't wait til my son is that age and starts doing equally daft things.

I honestly can't think of anything. Now, mind I do a lot of daft things!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 24/07/2019 14:17

Wet my hair in the morning so I could style it again (without washing it)

Wear 3 pairs of socks to get the ‘exact’ wrinkles in them - my mum must have despaired at the amount of washing

FishCanFly · 24/07/2019 14:21

Things I wore... A tracksuit top, jeans colour of poo, blue trainers, and a my mum's vintage handbag. I had a sense of style of a scarecrow.

floribunda18 · 24/07/2019 14:23

Shaved my eyebrows off and drew them back on. Took a long time for them to grow back, and for me to live it down at school.

Winterfellismyhome · 24/07/2019 14:23

Wore those stupid ballet shoes to school. Made my feet ACHE and went through about 10 pairs because they fell apart so quickly

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 24/07/2019 14:24

Too many to mention Grin

BobTheFishermansWife · 24/07/2019 14:25

Outfits I wore 😳
I had a pair of super baggy purple cord trousers, I'd wear them with a knee length purple floral skirt and a black tee-shirt.
I thought I was the shit in that outfit, 15 years on I looked shit 😂

ByeGermsByeWorries · 24/07/2019 14:26

Sneak out to high school in my 10 year older brother's designer trainers which were at least 4 sizes too big because they were expensive and I felt cool (and must have looked an absolute idiot and clown like)

theydontknowweknow · 24/07/2019 14:32

I once spent nearly £40 from my birthday money to buy a pair of Jane Norman pink velour pyjamas so I could use the bag for my pe kit at school, so pathetic

DirtyNell · 24/07/2019 14:33

To wear your winter coat actually on your shoulders was considered totally uncool ( late 80’s Ireland), so everybody, rain or shine, would wear all jackets tilted back, half way down our backs. We must have looked like such dickheads. I often thought of it when that style was in for boys to wear their jeans half hanging off, showing their pants. Dickheads, all of us!

babysharkah · 24/07/2019 14:35

@theydontknowweknow I did similar, not pyjamas but a top I didn't want for the kudos if the bag!!

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 24/07/2019 14:36

I used to go to sleep in my uniform to save time in the morning.

Goforitgirl · 24/07/2019 14:37

Got into cars with so many strangers Blush

DirtyNell · 24/07/2019 14:38

I’ve remembered another one- it was social death to use the straps of your school bag or rucksack, so everyone carried them in their arms, out in front of them. Made no sense, but had to be done!

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 14:39

Ooh I used to wear dresses over jeans, very popular in the early noughties

Spent most of a holiday in Spain sweltering in jeans and gigantic t-shirts because I thought I was too fat and too pale to wear swimwear.
I wore a sweatshirt on the beach and T-shirts over my one piece in the pool.
I'd love to be as 'fat' as I was then now.

When I was about 13 I went through a phase of hating my parents shower over the bath so much I pretended to shower. I went to so much effort to fake it wetting my hair, splashing the bathroom and using soap etc I might as well have just had a shower.

I didn't eat my sandwich at lunch for the whole of secondary school. Instead of just chucking it at school I'd leave them in my knicker drawer, then get told off by my Mum. This went on repeat for 5 years! How she didn't explode with frustration I'll never know.

Sunburntnoseandears · 24/07/2019 14:40

Put talc on my spots. Spent all day smelling like a Johnson's baby!
Travelled on the Metro without paying - it was 5 p!!

dorothymichaels · 24/07/2019 14:40

Wore that green colour correcting moisturiser to the extent that I looked like an alien.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:40

Yes to wearing inappropriate clothing fur the weather because it was ‘cool’. Coats? Nah! Who needs coats?! I’ll just wear a flimsy leather jacket or tractor top in -0 temperatures.

Also did the JD Sports bag thing for school. Only (perfectly sensible) nerds had backpacks.

It was hard to find size 8 shoes for my big boats in those days. But no problem! I’ll just buy size 7s because I really love the shoes (and don’t mind suffering my feet being ripped to shreds at all. Oh no).

Spent my lunch money on fags. So essentially starved in order to pollute my body with B&H at break, lunch and after school.

Hitch-hiked. In London. Shock. So essentially me & my friends would just used to cadge a lift of any old sleaze after going out clubbing. So lucky we weren’t attacked.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:41

trackie top

Tiredtessy · 24/07/2019 14:41

But every magazine that even mentioned my favourite band, have a tiny mini rucksack, wear those stupid tiny plastic dummies as necklaces, don’t ever remember wearing a coat! Wear hideous clothes! Buy body shop cack and never use it!

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 14:41

Travelled on the Metro without paying - it was 5 p!!

Oh yes, used to do that all the time. You'd buy a one day travel card for £2 and then reuse it for weeks

I was really thin and I thought my (size 4) feet looked too big on the ends of my skinny legs, so I used to wear shoes a size too small. My heels bled daily.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:43

Oh yes, we used to ‘bunk’ the tube a lot. Pre Oyster card days. We just jumped the barriers and ran. My poor parents would’ve been horrified to know!
