stupid fucking things you did as a teenager...

Not as in sex/drugs/alcohol or whatever but just general ridiculousness. I used to:

  • leave my straighteners ON every morning so they'd be on ALL DAY just so when I came in from school they would be hot enough to re-straighten my hair immediately. Confused God forbid I go twenty seconds with unstraightened hair. When I think of the fire risk!!!!
  • Refuse to wear my coat even in 3 degree weather because it wasn't cool to wear your coat
  • Carry my PE kit to school in a JD sports bag because that was the done thing, despite having a perfectly good rucksack
  • At one point, teeny tiny little Nike "just do it" backpacks were in but they weren't big enough to fit any of your stuff in. So I used to carry on e about (which just held my pencil case and my keys) and carry all my books seperately in my arms

I can't wait til my son is that age and starts doing equally daft things.

Probably my skipping school days. My mum got into a lot if trouble over that bless her

Demogorgmum · 24/07/2019 15:32

I walked past a couple of girls outside my sons comp a couple of weeks ago talking about the boy on the other side of the road 'Like, why does he bring such a big bag to school?' Both had tiny handbags.
I'l have to have a think of some of the stupid things I did as a teen when I get a moment, like most I'm sure there's plenty.

louisvootin · 24/07/2019 15:32

anyone remember those skirt over trousers thing.. i was never allowed a pair

IWouldPreferNotTo · 24/07/2019 15:35

Dressed like a metal fan transported from 1982 to 1995 in deepest darkest rural shire. Not even modern at the time metal, but classic metal like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 24/07/2019 15:38

A pair?

I literally wore skirts over my jeans.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 24/07/2019 15:44

A group of us once walked past a convertible car which had a phone in it (old style carphone, well before modern smartphones).

We whipped it away and called everyone we knew on it and then chucked it when the battery died.

I have no earthly idea how the police never found us. I don't even think the people we called got contacted!

TrueFriendsStabYouInTheFront · 24/07/2019 15:49

Giant wide leg jeans/cords that were so long they'd slurp up all the rain water on the ground and I'd be soaked up to the knees!

Wearing crop tops with a pink corduroy tie Blush

Making those fishnet sleeves with a pair of tights like Pink in the 'Get this party started' music video

Had short hair with a long side fringe

Carrying my portable CD player very carefully everywhere I went, was before anti-jog technology Grin

ShagMeRiggins · 24/07/2019 15:52

The trackie bottoms tucked into socks was called ‘pin tucking’ and was an absolute must in the early 90s

And beyond, apparently. Hmm

I used to walk home from high school with my arm tucked behind my waist, pretending a boyfriend was holding the hand on the other side. That’s what all the couples used to do.

moonlight1705 · 24/07/2019 15:56

I was never cool but always tried

Tie for school with the fat end so short and the thin end had to be tucked into your shirt but really long (mine poked out the bottom of my very short skirt).

Clumpy Kickers shoes that you needed thighs of steel to even walk in.

Wearing my first pair of heels (denim with flowers on them) to town and having bleeding feet for the whole time.

putthetellyon · 24/07/2019 16:09

  • Platform shoes for school. Hideous chunky things!!

Carried my folders in a River Island carrier bag.

Wore bodysuits with jeans, and pulled them down to emphasise my tits. Particularly when at the fair to try to impress the lads who worked the waltzers 🙈*

Lol I think I may know you Wink

starfishcoffee · 24/07/2019 16:10

Refused to brush my hair as I thought it puffed up too big (very curly). Pulled up my school skirt extremely high - WHY??? Tattooed myself in sharpie at every possible moment. My poor mother. Confused

Mammyloveswine · 24/07/2019 16:10

Rucksacks worn right down the back with the straps loosened as far as they'd go...

Lunch money saved to go out on a Friday night clubbing (big boobs worked for ID for years!).

When in days clubs underage used to minesweep drinks or snog random blokes so they'd buy us drinks.

Drink cider in the park, sometimes even sleeping in the park!

The Jane Norman bags were the coolest. I still loved that shop until it closed a few years ago.. Blush

Smoking (horrible habit!)

SweetMelodies · 24/07/2019 16:17

OMG the ‘Von bitch’ t shirts and Jane Norman Pe bags 🤣

I remember the phase for those long ‘gypsy’ boho skirts with those belts made of like leather circles.

Too much dream matte mousse in shades too dark and sperm eyes brows 😂

OldSpeclkledHen · 24/07/2019 16:18

Grow up and get old 🙄🙄

itssquidstella · 24/07/2019 16:24

@Casander my friends sported exactly the same look!

I was the token greebo (goth/emo) so I wore skater jeans five sizes too big for me, accessorised with a fetching spiky dog collar and fairy wings from the dressing up section at Claire's Accessories.

I looked -the- shit.

itssquidstella · 24/07/2019 16:26

@Hairglitter I was soooo close to getting my eyebrow pierced when I was 16. In retrospect I am beyond relieved that I never quite had the guts.

IratusCats · 24/07/2019 16:26

Dream matte mouse worn 3 shades too pale Confused
Hiding in the toilets with 6 other people instead of being in a lesson
Wearing about 20 layers of mascara, the more layers the better. Looking back at photos, it looked awful. So very clumpy and spider leg like. Blush
Smoking in the woods behind the school, sneaking back in and try to hide the smell with body spray, didn't work always got caught.
Wearing my school skirt rolled all the way up, it was basically a belt.
Half my year wore black jeans, the more faded they were the better. Grin

Brigante9 · 24/07/2019 16:34

Hitch hiked from Liverpool to Paris, the student union thought it was a great thing to do for charity. Bloody bonkers.

Chocolatepeanuts · 24/07/2019 16:35

Yes i had the school tie with the fat bit tucked in and thin bit out. And the leather circular belt.

Also, blue mascara and ironing my hair. Normal straightners wouldnt touch my hair until ghds were invented.

The platforms so high with the cut jeans that were miles too long especially when you took your shoes off. Literally tripping over yourself. And if you walked in a puddle the wetness soaked right up your legs.

Epilated my side burns and chin daily.

Tracksuit tops, white bootcut trousers and trainers as an outfit.

keepingbees · 24/07/2019 16:35

School tie worn about 2 inches long or you weren't cool. Backpack worn on one strap only, two straps meant you were 'sad'. Canvas backpack bags that you customised by writing all over, usually including the yin yang and peace symbols 😂.
I regret getting my belly button piercing at 18 when they were all the rage. I was too scared to change the bar and had to remove it when I got pregnant, I have an ugly stretch marked hole now.

foxyknoxy30 · 24/07/2019 16:35

We would get a lighter and spray hairspray to create flame throwers 😣

Delatron · 24/07/2019 16:41

Oh and that stupid fainting game at school. Such a ridiculous and dangerous game.

readyforchangenow · 24/07/2019 16:41

Wore a necklace that lit up in the dark saying 'bitch'

Cringe

Racmactac · 24/07/2019 16:43

Never ate lunch for years.

Climbed out of bedroom windows and wandered around the town at 2am. In not a great area.

Too posh to go into topshop.

Had sex in the dorms.

Used to sneak alcohol in regularly.

(Boarding school)

keepingbees · 24/07/2019 16:43

Oh and I remember a trend for using an aerosol spray right onto to your skin to create a burn.
