stupid fucking things you did as a teenager...

Not as in sex/drugs/alcohol or whatever but just general ridiculousness. I used to:

  • leave my straighteners ON every morning so they'd be on ALL DAY just so when I came in from school they would be hot enough to re-straighten my hair immediately. Confused God forbid I go twenty seconds with unstraightened hair. When I think of the fire risk!!!!
  • Refuse to wear my coat even in 3 degree weather because it wasn't cool to wear your coat
  • Carry my PE kit to school in a JD sports bag because that was the done thing, despite having a perfectly good rucksack
  • At one point, teeny tiny little Nike "just do it" backpacks were in but they weren't big enough to fit any of your stuff in. So I used to carry on e about (which just held my pencil case and my keys) and carry all my books seperately in my arms

I can't wait til my son is that age and starts doing equally daft things.

Only geek wore the school blazer properly, we used to slide it on up-to the elbow, so it was like a skirt in front of us. Ridiculous!
Also went though the Jane Norman bag stage.
Foundation 5x darker than your skin tone.

Got taken home in a police car for drunk and disorderly for trying to tickle a cop.

Puked in mate's grandma's hair.

Shagged half of the first year boys at Uni.

Danced at a street party with no shoes on and had to go to hospital to have the glass dug out of my feet.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:46

It wasn’t ‘cool’ to come to school fully prepared with well stocked pencil case. Pathetic looking back. Us supposedly cool kids might casually chuck a biro in our JD sports bag, but that was about it.

Little shits!

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 14:46

We never had blazers. It was only very posh kids who had blazers apparently.

Our secondary school was non uniform, which was common in n in those days, but seems to no longer exist. You can imagine the fashion parade that went on.

I wore a skin tight catsuit with no underwear or bra underneath for a lot of the fifth year (year 11). Jesus wept.

Coniferhedge · 24/07/2019 14:48

Makes me chuckle that kids are sensible these days and it is seen as perfectly normal to use a rucksack for school. In my day (80’s) no one would be seen dead with a rucksack. Everyone used carrier bags and there was a strict hierarchy of carrier bags! The best were bags from designer/posh shops, the worst was a Netto carrier bag - you’d never live it down if you used a Netto carrier bag!

Parky04 · 24/07/2019 14:49

Swam in rivers, got into cars with pissed people and worse of all, wore shell suits!

MatchSetPoint · 24/07/2019 14:49

Skip lessons in school by hiding in the toilet Confused because spending an hour in a toilet cubicle with four others was far more fun.....

gracepoolesrum · 24/07/2019 14:49

Walked a mile to and from college in platform heels... so painful.
Ate a McDonald's hot apple pie and chocolate sundae for lunch every school day in year 11 when we were allowed off the premises.
There was a fashion at our school for tying the school tie wrong end up so the thin end hung down your front and the correct thick end was tucked away!

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:50

@Coniferhedge

Yes! If you can in with a Kwik Save bag it was an instant pariah job. In our day, Benetton and JD Sports were acceptable. Also a Head bag of you had to have a proper bag.

Defender90 · 24/07/2019 14:50

I cut my hair like T-Boz from TLC. Awful.

Ariela · 24/07/2019 14:50

In the 6th form I wore the same pair of (originally dark bottle green) faded light green denim flares rotated with a (once dark) faded pale blue pair.
I thought they looked OK, saw a photo recently and only now realise I'd grown another inch or two since I bought them. They looked rubbish.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:50

Excuse typos!

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 14:51

The fashion for one's school tie was an extremely fat knot and very small dangly bit.

I wrote a scathing message about how I felt about school on my shirt and used to leave it untucked so the teacher could read it. Double whammy because you weren't supposed to have your shirt untucked.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:52

@Defender90 🤣

I had kiss curls glued to my face with gel and wire dollar sign earrings.

Channeling Neneh Cherry with a dash of Pepa from Salt N Pepa.

Cringe.

@notso what is it with the sandwiches thing? My 14 year old DD is the same, never eats them, but instead of throwing them away, either at school or in a bin on the way home, she leaves them rotting in the bottom of her school bag, or shoves them into her knicker drawer. By the time I find them, they're green and smelly!!

Why? Just WHY?!

mrspotatohed · 24/07/2019 14:54

Sticking tiny gems onto one of our front teeth with super glue coz it was the fashion.

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 14:56

I also used to have a very fetching t shirt that said "von bitch" instead of "von dutch"

BingeAndWhinge · 24/07/2019 14:57

Used a rucksack in school but it was social death to wear both straps. Everyone would be walking around with a rucksack full of files/books/pe kit with it hanging off the one shoulder. I had a constant bad back but would never have dreamed of using the two straps!

Jellystars · 24/07/2019 14:57

I used to constantly cut and dye my own hair, was absolutely awful.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:58

@Hairglitter

Lol! I’d forgotten about Von Dutch and the ‘ironic’ bootlegs.

Coniferhedge · 24/07/2019 14:59

@BlondeLikeBoJo Yes! All the boys had Head bags. Our school was also non uniform and a fashion parade every day. My son goes to the same school I did and it is still non uniform but strangely it isn’t a thing these days. Kids wear what they want with no problem.

BlondeLikeBoJo · 24/07/2019 14:59

The bag thing still exists to some extent. I see a lot of 14-16 yr old school girls with a tote or shopper artfully (ie. uncomfortably) hanging off the wrist of one bent arm.
