stupid fucking things you did as a teenager...

Not as in sex/drugs/alcohol or whatever but just general ridiculousness. I used to:

  • leave my straighteners ON every morning so they'd be on ALL DAY just so when I came in from school they would be hot enough to re-straighten my hair immediately. Confused God forbid I go twenty seconds with unstraightened hair. When I think of the fire risk!!!!
  • Refuse to wear my coat even in 3 degree weather because it wasn't cool to wear your coat
  • Carry my PE kit to school in a JD sports bag because that was the done thing, despite having a perfectly good rucksack
  • At one point, teeny tiny little Nike "just do it" backpacks were in but they weren't big enough to fit any of your stuff in. So I used to carry on e about (which just held my pencil case and my keys) and carry all my books seperately in my arms

I can't wait til my son is that age and starts doing equally daft things.

I also used to have a very fetching t shirt that said "von bitch" instead of "von dutch"

🤣🤣🤣

My son goes to the same school I did and it is still non uniform but strangely it isn’t a thing these days. Kids wear what they want with no problem

Do they? Most teens I know still look like wee clones of each other.

Decided to trim my own fringe before work experience... it was one inch long before I got it straight and stuck up like a hedgehog!

Wore these horrific wedge sandal things all winter. They fell apart so I sellotaped them back together (!). My feet were always so cold.

Delatron · 24/07/2019 15:04

Hitchhiked in to town, getting in to cars with strange men!
Swam in rivers
Walked home alone in the middle of the night in some very dubious parts of Birmingham.

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 15:04

I actually can't remember what shoes I wore as a teenager. Probably ballet flats, they were in then.

Tried to skateboard to impress a guy and I ended up going arse over tit. Mind you he did marry me 13yrs later so maybe that wasn’t so stupid 😂

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 15:05

Omg I totally forgot - my best friend and I agreed to meet up with some random weirdo we met in an Internet chatroom.

Luckily we bottled it and didn't go but can you imagine!!!

delatron I regularly walked home after nights out on Broad street 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Casander · 24/07/2019 15:08

Hair scraped back with tons of green cheap gel from the chemist.

Dream matte mouse the wrong shade

Foundation on lips covered in gloss

Adidas poppers

Mizz magazine

MD 20/20 and Lambrini Envy -not envy

Chuffingchuff · 24/07/2019 15:09

I remember there being a fashion to wear your tracksuit bottoms tucked into your socks. What the actual. We must have looked ridiculous.

Wearing make up such as very dark eyeshadow and purple lipstick thinking I was a total trendsetter.

Using sun-in on my very dark hair hoping to go a gorgeous blonde, only turning a terrible dirty yellow colour and having to let it grow out.

Coniferhedge · 24/07/2019 15:09

@Hairglitter not to the extent it was in our day. What I mean is in the 80’s you got teased if you wore low range stuff. You should be wearing high end stuff like Benetton or Ocean Pacific. Now they wear anything and don’t get teased. The thing that you don’t see nowadays is the different ‘tribes’. In my day there were the run of the mill kids, a few mods, goths, psychobillies. All kids look the same now which is a shame.

ilovepixie · 24/07/2019 15:10

Wore a choose life t shirt aka wham!

AbbyNormal · 24/07/2019 15:10

Plucked my eyebrows to oblivion and even now in my 30s they refuse to grow properly.

Wore a vest with "Psycho Bitch" on it when I was 14 because I thought I was deep and angsty. My DM actually bought it for me which surprises me even more in hindsight.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 24/07/2019 15:11

Wore ballet flats that were so worn out my toe stuck out. Wouldn't wear a coat in winter because I hated my coat. Wouldn't take my jumper or scarf off (to hide the collar) in summer because I only had a blue school shirt and the cool colour was white.

I used to sit on the floor in the bus station. Minging!

Casander · 24/07/2019 15:11

@Chuffingchuff oh my god, Sun-in! I still have PTSD from using that 😂

jennymanara · 24/07/2019 15:12

I cut my own hair, used a carrier bag for school, wore a striped grey nightdress as a long top over jeans, and for a while wore a fetching fawn brown granny hat.

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 15:13

I used to cut the shoulders off all my t shirts as well Confused

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 15:17

@Chuffingchuff

Sun-in! Christ, that stuff stripped the goodness out of your hair, didn’t it?

The trackie bottoms tucked into socks was called ‘pin tucking’ and was an absolute must in the early 90s Grin

frustratedmother101 · 24/07/2019 15:19

@Hairglitter i was never allowed tattoos or piercings thank god ! Although a lot of the girls in my year had those hideous piercings above the lip on one side Envy - not envy

Hairglitter · 24/07/2019 15:22

In my emo phase I was DESPERATE for a lip piercing.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/07/2019 15:23

Platform shoes for school. Hideous chunky things!!

Carried my folders in a River Island carrier bag.

Wore bodysuits with jeans, and pulled them down to emphasise my tits. Particularly when at the fair to try to impress the lads who worked the waltzers 🙈
