Very rare lunch opportunity with dh in London.. Where shall we go!

Super rare opportunity, nothing outrageously expensive.. Anything unusual away from norm or out standing food would be fab.

We did sketch many many years ago. ALREADY checked out hakkassan and that looks too pricey. Any ideas?

Central ideally. Thanks

Maybe somewhere high up with views over London? Eg up in the Shard, Heron Tower or even the restaurant at the top of the Hilton in Park Lane?

CallMeCarolDanvers · 15/07/2019 17:43

Gauthier, Soho

HappyPunky · 15/07/2019 17:44

The Ice Bar is just off regent Street. I've just been there for the bar no idea what the food is like but there are a few restaurants there too.

caffeinebuzz · 15/07/2019 17:49

There is a brilliant value set lunch at the Dorchester. Or we like Hutong at the Shard for midweek dim sum.

Cloudyz7 · 15/07/2019 17:50

Have a look at squaremeal.co.uk. You can filter by location, price, cuisine, ambience etc.

onemouseplace · 15/07/2019 17:50

I really like Little Social - the set lunch menu there is really good value and I enjoyed it more that it's overpriced neighbour, Pollen Street Social.

ChefsFloozie · 15/07/2019 17:53

We loved Roux at Parliament Square. Unpretentious but really great food

Bourdic · 15/07/2019 17:57

Another one for Gauthier

pigglypug · 15/07/2019 18:02

Laughing Gravy near Waterloo isn't too fancy or expensive but the food is great.

ladyratterley · 15/07/2019 18:02

Hakkasan does a good set lunch with a cocktail if you didn’t want to pay for the pricy a la carte menu.
Frenchie in Covent Garden is my current favourite. Really excellent food. They do a really good set lunch menu.
Or Bocca di Lupo.

Shoxfordian · 15/07/2019 18:04

Kingly Court in Carnaby Street has some nice options
Steak & Co in Covent Garden is good too

SabineSchmetterling · 15/07/2019 18:04

I love Abeno. It’s an okonomiyaki restaurant. I’m fairly certain it’s the only proper cooked-on-your-table okonomiyaki place in London. It’s not badly priced and very different. It isn’t fancy though. I’m not sure if that’s important.

Tower 42, it’s high up in the old NatWest Tower, the views of London are stunning, I’Ve only had drinks there, but I know they do food. You need to book in advance. I’ve recommended it to friends who are going for a happens-in-a-blue-moon meal in London and it always gets a 👍

Lightsabre · 15/07/2019 18:11

Brasserie Zedel is fun st Piccadilly - Amazing Art Deco space, great cocktail bar and decent french food.

DerelictWreck · 15/07/2019 18:13

Hawksmoor for food, or somewhere in Granary square for environment.

ZenNudist · 15/07/2019 18:14

Watching

stclair · 15/07/2019 18:26

Mercer roof terrace in the City or Galvin La Chapelle near Liverpool St

Knittedjimmychoos · 15/07/2019 18:28

Forgot to add somewhere that will allow trainers or at least no dress code.

Lady we couldn't see prices on hakkassan menu

Hawksmoor is mentioned a lot but why? Good venue? Atmosphere etc?

Looove Temper in soho

There’s one in Covent Garden too but not been

Nettleweed · 15/07/2019 18:37

Another recommendation here for Abeno.

Fortheloveofscience · 15/07/2019 18:45

I went to Hawksmoor last year and wasn’t massively impressed - it had quite a ‘normal’ steakhouse feel to it.

I’d second Hutong up the Shard but I don’t think they allow trainers. Most of the fancy London restaurants do reasonably priced set lunch deals, but finding one without a dress code might be harder.

Knittedjimmychoos · 15/07/2019 18:47

I could go without trainers but wanted to have good wander around as well, would prefer soho, West end..

Checked out some of these little social has be relaunch apparently at no 5Confused

AND gauthier looks beautiful, not bad menu at all! Very tempting 3 courses, 2 glasses wine and champagne for 50!

Hawksmoor is old hat now, formulaic and boring.

Tower 42 the same.

If you want slightly casual have a look at Aviary at the Montcalm in Finsbury Square, best roof terrace in the city. Madison is another one with great space, food is fine and not fancy pants.

babysharkah · 15/07/2019 18:51

Sorry just saw you wanted west end!
