Super rare opportunity, nothing outrageously expensive.. Anything unusual away from norm or out standing food would be fab.

We did sketch many many years ago. ALREADY checked out hakkassan and that looks too pricey. Any ideas?

Central ideally. Thanks

Palomar does excellent food, quite informal and can require booking in advance or rock up and wait for a table. Kricket is great, Indian tapas, the samphire pakora is insanely good - I would happily eat there everyday!

For something that feels a bit fancier then Pollen St Social and Berners Tavern are both decent options and have a very reasonably priced lunch menu. My husband loves the macaroni cheese with slow roast beef at Berners Tavern!

Gymkhana is good. Near the ritz.

BertrandRussell · 15/07/2019 18:56

The Golden Dragon in Gerrard Street is a favourite of ours.

Knittedjimmychoos · 15/07/2019 18:57

Gymkahna rings a bell and Indian tapas sounds devine.

Gymkhana is amazing (Michelin starred) and their set lunch very reasonable - you get a lot of food for your money! Have they re-opened after the fire though?

MrsGrindah · 15/07/2019 19:01

The German Gymnasium near St Pancras
J Sheekey in West end

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 15/07/2019 19:01

Yautcha is great - some of the best dim sum I've had in London. Not cheap mind you. You can get away with a light lunch for a reasonable amount but if you have massive appetites it can stack up quickly!

RushianDisney · 15/07/2019 19:03

José on Bermondsey street does the best tapas, and you might spot Tracey Emin. No dress code but get there early, lunch is usually pretty quiet, but in the evening people queue round the block.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 15/07/2019 19:03

Ooh yes J Sheekey - I love it in there!

The Delauney is also great for that Vienna cafe feel, very glamorous. Never had lunch there but in the evenings it's always full of celebs.

Dehesa, Ember Yard, or Flat Iron... all in Soho!

lioness87 · 15/07/2019 19:08

Temper in Covent Garden is a recent favourite of mine!

I think you have to book through book a table or open table for the £38 deal.
Yauacha is very good, but I think it’s too pricy. I’ve had dinner there and left thinking I could eat a burger!
Berners Tavern is a gorgeous space. Definitely worth checking out their lunch menu.
I really enjoy the steak at Hawksmoor. I’m pretty sure they do some kind of set lunch which is a good deal.

Greenglassteacup · 15/07/2019 19:18

I like Mildred’s in Soho

AnnaDine · 15/07/2019 19:43

Cafe Murano - Covent Garden (Italian - they do a set lunch)

Dishoom - St Martin’s lane (Indian - you can’t book!)

Neither have a dress code (don’t think many do these days?)

Greenglassteacup · 15/07/2019 19:45

Oh yes Dishoom is lovely

Animum2 · 15/07/2019 20:05

My old Dutch in Holborn they specialise in pancakes of all kinds and they are delicious

DelurkingAJ · 15/07/2019 20:09

Ciao Bella in Holborn for the best Italian ever.

BertrandRussell · 15/07/2019 20:10

Oh my word- does My Old Dutch still exist? Do they still have big blue and white plates?

pamplemoussed · 15/07/2019 20:13

Dishhom or Caravan on Granary Square .. or just around the corner .

BigcatLittlecat · 15/07/2019 20:13

Kerridges!

pamplemoussed · 15/07/2019 20:13

Or Graingers just around the corner

AtillatheHun · 15/07/2019 20:14

Sabor on Heddon Street for sensationally good spanish food

Animum2 · 15/07/2019 20:16

@BertrandRussell
It still exists, went there for Valentine's day, can't remember the colour of the plates, think they were white

viques · 15/07/2019 20:19

My favourite restaurant atm is the Raymond blanc brasserie at Tower Hill. I like the food, cheese soufflé to die for, it is reasonably priced, but most of all love the airy light atmosphere. So many london restaurants cram tables hugger mugger so you practically knock elbow with your neighbours, and constantly have people walking close behind your chair, and for some reason many restaurants are either below ground or with limited windows, The RBB is very light, and has plenty of room .

I also like the Cote chain, various places, mostly because I could eat their crab starter every day for the rest of my life..........
