Super rare opportunity, nothing outrageously expensive.. Anything unusual away from norm or out standing food would be fab.

We did sketch many many years ago. ALREADY checked out hakkassan and that looks too pricey. Any ideas?

Central ideally. Thanks

Berner's Tavern is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. Always something to look at and the staff are all so, so friendly and lovely, amazing food and wine. The Sanderson is across the road for a drink beforehand and is really stunning. All in the West End too.
I liked The Ivy to try it out and say I'd been and that was really good but I wouldn't go all the time, just as a one off. Places like Sketch are good for a drink but I'm not keen on the food, massively overpriced for the 'fashionable' tag.

Dean St Townhouse also does really hearty food in a nice setting.

NigellasGuest · 15/07/2019 23:07

Ham Yard?
I like Dean Street Townhouse Morticia

Temper, Dishoom, Granger & Co

Bouledeneige · 16/07/2019 00:47

My DD works at Dishoom at Kings X!

bellsbuss · 16/07/2019 00:47

Rules if you're big meat eaters, love it there also The Ivy.

For Japanese 'Flesh and Buns'in Covent garden. I don't like the other branches, they lack quality.
Fish in borough market if you like to fish. Their fish pie is out of this world!
Patara Soho is a lovely thai place.

Oh yep Duck and Rice is run by the same people as Yauatcha but is cheaper and less formal. It gets quite busy and loud but food is good. Yauatcha is also good for dim sum, but possibly a bit overpriced as I wouldn't say their dim sum is better than some of the nicer china town options, but the setting is smart.

@DelurkingAJ I was going to say Ciao Bella too! For old fashioned Italian... gets busy during the week at lunchtimes.

Brigadiers in The city is an alternative to Gymkhana (shame that's closed!).

AlbusPercival · 16/07/2019 08:54

A Wong has the most amazing Chinese food. Lunchtime is dim sum and reasonably priced

MustardScreams · 16/07/2019 08:59

Din Tai Fung for the best soup dumplings in the uk. So good I go every time I’m in London.

Or for superb Michelin food The Greenhouse does a wonderful set lunch for £45pp and is completely amazing.

Duck and rice looks really inyeredtjng6, totally different to yautacha! But it looks like somewhere we could go with the children.

I'd rather somewhere we couldn't really take the children.

Dean Street town house also looks v interesting and in the heart of soho.

That's a current finalist along with Scott's and a few others.

Rules is another one I've always fancied but it seems more like an autumn, Winter place?

Wright Brothers, J Sheekey, Hawksmoor (I like the Covent Garden branch the best), Floral by Lima, Dishoom, Petersham Nurseries, Yauatcha, St John - would be my suggestions :)

wibs77 · 16/07/2019 17:13

I hear good things about xu in Soho. I often eat in bao their sister less formal restaurants. Yauatcha always gets great reviews.
