What do posh people drink as an aperitif?

I'm currently drinking Pimms. DH commented that it was posh. I said it's probably what riff raff like us think is posh, but really isn't.

So out of interest, what would be a posh (ahem, sorry, I mean "smart") aperitif?

It is posh, Wimbledon etc

Flower777 · 26/06/2019 20:50

Fibbke · 26/06/2019 20:50

Gin and Dubonnet - supposedly the Queen's favourite!

ShitAtScarbble · 26/06/2019 20:55

Aperol Spritz or Negroni. Pimms is ok but it's a bit jaded!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/06/2019 20:55

I expect we can rule out all the stuff I remember from my childhood: Babycham, sweet sherry, snowball (Advocaat and lemonade, mmmmm).

No idea what's posh. Chilled Tio Pepe or similar dry sherry is a lovely aperitif. I've tried and failed to get to like Campari, but I love Martini Dry.

TSSDNCOP · 26/06/2019 20:58

Negroni, dry sherry, gin and tonic

78percentLindt · 26/06/2019 20:59

White port

dreichuplands · 26/06/2019 21:00

I have just fallen for Aperol Spritz but I'm not posh.

FiveAcorns · 26/06/2019 21:01

Buckfast

EskewedBeef · 26/06/2019 21:02

A can of Skol. Really posh people all drive old bangers and wear scruffy clothes too, according to threads on here about posh people Grin

Lolimax · 26/06/2019 21:02

2L of White Lightening

bluebellation · 26/06/2019 21:03

Champagne 🍾

dudsville · 26/06/2019 21:04

I make cocktails. I'm not posh, so I guess it can't be cocktails!

PolaDeVeboise · 26/06/2019 21:04

Really really posh people drink G&T out of quite grimy glasses. Same ones that wear clothes with holes in and drive old bangers.
Wealthy new money drink fancy gins and Fevertree tonics.
I think Aperol Spritz is marketed as aspirational. The classy Venetians I've met always drink Campari Spritz.

Nothingfallingdowntoday · 26/06/2019 21:08

Always gin

Wholikestoparday · 26/06/2019 21:10

Champagne cocktails

Pimms is the opposite of posh!

enjoyingscience · 26/06/2019 21:10

Definitely gin. Nothing trendy - so aperol, although delightful, would be out. Nigella does cocktail jugs as aperitifs that always look incredibly, throat strippingly alcoholic. Maybe that’s the secret.

Camomila · 26/06/2019 21:10

Whatever they like, I think.

Aperol Spritz is nice. I really like Crodino...sometimes you can get fake Crodino in Lidl's Italian week so you can make aperol spritz at home.

NaturalBornWoman · 26/06/2019 21:10

Champagne, dry sherry, a martini or gin and tonic, a negroni or Campari....

SheSnapsThenSheFarts · 26/06/2019 21:19

@LegoClone I can confirm that is what Queen Liz drinks. For I have made her one (double gin single dubonnet so 50ml of each, if anyone's interested...)

Puppylucky · 26/06/2019 21:19

Not Aperol Spritz it's a marketing invention! Campari soda is closer to posh

ticking · 26/06/2019 21:23

Rhubarb liqueur & Prosecco
Elderflower liqueur & Prosecco
Aperitif spritz
Not posh (and what I drink! Grin)

Champagne- like Louise Pommery- posh

Ivegotthree · 26/06/2019 21:24

Whoever said whatever they like was right.

But in my experience, gin or whisky at 6pm is usually right.
