Has anyone worked with Boris? What’s he really like?

Surely he can’t be that bad??? Everyone seems to think he’s a complete tosser (me included), so how is he so popular? Does anyone know the truth?

Yeah, the original question was actually does anyone actually have any real experience of Boris. I was interested to get the insiders view. The fact that it hasn’t been overly complimentary isn’t a forgone conclusion; I’m sure if he was great to work with/ for we would hear that too.

Not worked with him directly but used to know a lot of journos, many had worked with him. Not a single person liked him, and many thought he was an incredibly dangerous person.

@flumpybear am blonde but not a philanderer so no I am not BJ Grin

I’m not a fan of his - I agree with Max Hastings that he’s “unfit to rule” but I just think it’s like brexit where we all sit in a smug circle saying “well I don’t know anyone who likes him” and then we are all shocked when he inevitably wins what seems like an inevitable fucking general election later this year. And you KNOW this is what’s going to happen. You KNOW it is. Because realistically what’s the alternative.

I do not want him to be PM so I want to know why he’s the only one with a chance of winning elections for the Tories. WTF is wrong with the world...

I’ve met BJ briefly through work and as others have said he hid behind his chaotic persona as a way of avoiding being straight with me. But v funny.

Have worked with Rory Stewart v briefly and he’s amazing. I want him to win...

I am soooo NOT a “lefty” and I think he’s a terrifying prospect

Not Boris, but I worked with Michael Gove. . He also has a disappointingly weak and clammy handshake.

Well, that is a hanging offence in my book. Hate weak handshakes!

He can't be that racist.
Isn't he married to a Sikh woman?

I am very right wing - voted Leave, voted Brexit Party, etc etc etc.....

And I am worried about Boris becoming PM. Very worried. He has a lot to live up to and not sure that he is up to it just yet.

There's a tradition of fabulous far-sighted, humane and intelligent leadership by the Tory party, right enough. Biiig shoes to fill. Hmm

huh? are you on about BJ? He ran off with his younger totty

A friend is a civil servant in Westminster and works face to face with most MPs, very few she has a good word to say about, BJ is not one of them. Complete snob and thinks he's above everyone else and the rules.

I've always said the buffoonery was always an act and he's a very dangerous idiot. He's a megalomaniac.

Boris is surely too posh to appeal to the uneducated, to the plebs

Historically speaking very well established trope that it's the monarch/aristocracy who protect the plebs against the evil machinations of the middle class/"educated elite". Would not be to his disadvantage at all.

A pp said 'surely half the country won't vote for him' or something like that.

Half the country doesn't have to - only half the people who vote have to - and as no party appears to have a decent opposition - either as leader or as policy. It will may well turn out he gets enough.

My stepsister's partner used to work with Boris. He says that Boris portrays himself as a bumbling idiot but it was clear that underneath all that he was actually pretty astute and very very ambitious.

Please email this thread to any members of the Conservative party you know.

It might change some minds before they vote.

I've advised him in many roles for years. Do not under estimate him. He is smart, can process information and make a good decision really easily, has high emotional intelligence as well as IQ. And he is passionate about the good of the country. In none of my interactions with him (in the the 100s) did he focus on what's good for Boris, he is vehemently focused on how to improve things for all. I really think he's misunderstood/under estimated and could make an excellent PM. He's not the candidate I am voting for but I don't think he's the disaster this thread would make people think!

Oh and I'm not remotely close to upper class by background and he was always respectful of my input. I never heard any racist views come out of his mouth either. Im not sure this thread is giving a very accurate portrayal at all.

Interesting breaker, so why aren’t you voting for him?
And who gets your vote?

Not even that. Under our current system, it's possible to end up in government on barely over a third of the vote. The conservatives got 36% of the vote in 2015.

Breaker, you may not have heard racist things come out of his mouth, but surely you are aware of his published/broadcast offensive comments using racist language and mocking some Muslim women for how they dress?
Agree he is very intelligent, charming, funny. Have met him and have acquaintances who know him. But obviously not honest (brexit money claim?), on top of the lack of morals.
Like this country isn’t divided enough. Rory Stewart only one who seems to give a shit about NI, if only he could win but obviously he is too much like a decent person for them to vote for.

I work for one of the organisations that reports to the Mayor and needs his approval for certain projects. His lack of attention or grasp of detail is true, and we got away with things that no other Conservative politician and most Labour ones would ever have approved of.

@Tinyteatime I have heard that too. Not stupid by any means but exceptionally lazy. I’m a floating voter who has sometimes voted Tory. I think if there was a GE I would spoil my ballot. I can’t bear any of them. But I imagine the tories would win as JC seems to be incapable of doing anything with the opportunity given to labour of the tories having been in utter disarray for nigh on 3 years.

Wiki just informed me
Boris ex Marina Wheeler's mother is a Sikh woman
I hadn't realised he had left her
Well if he couldn't stay faithful to his wife , he's not going to do much for the country.
