Are there any conspiracy theories that you just think could have an element of truth?

I love all things conspiracy theory - from a psychological/social point of view it's interesting to see what makes people fearful or pessimistic.

But I often do see some conspiracy theories a bit like Urban legends in that they could be an exaggerated truth.

Are there any conspiracy theories or rumours that you just think 'maybe...' or even ones you're completely sold on.

hopes nobody thinks the Queen is a metamorphic lizard alien

I think the moon landing probably did happen, but perhaps a lot of luck was involved that just can't be banked on again.

There wasn't just one Moon landing.
Six landings.
Two earlier rehearsals - orbited moon, didn't land.
One failed - Apollo 13

At the same time several probes by Russia. It's extremely unlikely that Communist Russia of the time would help the US cover up any moon landing.

bebeboeuf · 20/05/2019 21:02

No.
It involves the use of lasers, that require polished reflective surfaces to bounce back.

But lasers do reflect off of the moons surface irrespective of mirrors.

There must be an easier way of bumping off a royal? Diana had moved on from the divorce by then. Why get rid of her?

The mm theories are so cruel. The parents made a mistake but the pain etched on her mother's face is heartbreaking. Why fight for her all these years later if you were responsible?

I honestly thought that only nutcases didn't believe in the moon landing.

MockerstheFeManist · 20/05/2019 21:05

I always think it a very sad coincidence that all the most decent and trustworthy Labour leaders died early deaths: John Smith, Mo Mowlam, Robin Cook. I wonder how different British politics would have been if a couple of them had lived longer lives.

See also Hugh Gaitskill, Nye Bevan, Tony Crosland and Jo Cox.

.....And Tories: Iain Macleod. Judith Chaplin. Steven Millican.

But mostly Iain Macleod, without whom, Margaret Whatsername would have been remembered as a rather incompetent education secretary and nothing else.

ArDali1 · 20/05/2019 21:06

9/11 still do not believe 2 aircrafts can demolish a building like that, if you watch some videos on YouTube, you can see explosions going off on each level.

Saddam Hussein was put in power with the help of America.
The government are puppets of some sort of cult who are in control of the world.

Although a lot of bad has happened and it is really heartbreaking to hear but I kind of don't believe all this Isis bullshit. Something doesn't add up. They just came on the scene overnight. They have access to Internet, have pictures taken, videos? The Internet in Iraq is worse than when we had AOL....

My favourite is watching Buzz Aldrin talk about the aliens they saw on the moon on the other side of a crater, watching the humans. He says that the transmissions were public but the medical channel was private so they used that channel to report back to NASA that the aliens were watching them.

tempester28 · 20/05/2019 21:11

Is Osama bin Laden really dead?

MockerstheFeManist · 20/05/2019 21:11

....In fact, all conspiracy theories are controlled and diseminated from the supercomputers beneath Cheyenne Mountain, to keep all the really clever people who spot these things distracted from what's really going on, the whole Ayn Rand 'Atlas Shrugged' project to concentrate more and more wealth in ever fewer hands.

kenandbarbie · 20/05/2019 21:19

Why would you need a fake Paul McCartney? What would be the point? The evidence seems to be drawing lines from his chin to his ears that aren't the same length on fuzzy photos from different angles.

Link to Buzz Aldren alien video pls!

I want to know why no other high rise building, which has been on fire, has collapsed in on itself

One of the major reasons people don't take conspiracy theories seriously is because a lot of the time, the people spreading them are just parroting things that sound kind of interesting and suspicious without a second's thought or research into it. Not to pick on you specifically, quizqueen, but your post is a good example of it. And then people reading on here will pick up that little tidbit and repeat it to their friends, and so it goes on.

I mean, just google "buildings that have collapsed in on themselves from fire" and you can find plenty of other examples. It hardly requires in-depth research! One in São Paulo, one in Egypt, one in Tehran, etc. etc.

None, they don't behave like a controlled demolition does!.

TheInvestigator · 20/05/2019 21:23

@kenandbarbie

It was a show on Netflix ages ago. Will try and find it!

NunoGoncalves · 20/05/2019 21:23

@kenandbarbie

It's called Aliens on the Moon; the truth exposed.

I can't remember exactly which parts Buzz says himself and which parts the other nasa people talk about but it's all very strange. I think it's a bunch of rubbish but it was amusing!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/05/2019 21:33

I work with a lot of architects and engineers and have engineers in the family (civil and structural) who have build towers. Of course we have talked about it and the concerns is is yes, the collapse is plausible.

I have heard theories of explosives being strategically placed to cause the collapse. So the people I know when were in the towers are all in on the conspiracy?

Nothing in particular but most reasons we will never know but can more or less bank on...
Most wars are started for money..
Most Illness outbreaks are followed by rush on vaccines being sold..
911 recruited more soldiers than any advert could...
Johnson’s and Johnson’s have asbestos veins running through their talc mines and 3% or less is an ‘acceptable volume’...

This is why JFK was killed.

NotNowMrTumnus · 20/05/2019 21:46

Astronauts who are lost in space, floating around, talking to themselves.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 20/05/2019 21:49

@MissConductUS

As someone who actually saw the second plane hit and the towers collapse I'm a bit shocked at the number of 9/11 "truthers" on this thread

I'm shocked and disgusted 😡

BishopBrennansArse · 20/05/2019 21:49

I'm going to stop pming my theory now, if anyone else wants to know can someone I've already sent it to forward it please?

cms1972 · 20/05/2019 21:50

I haven’t got time to read ALL this thread, so sorry if someone’s already said this. But I think that hitmen have got their own ‘modus operandi’.
They have realised that if you’re bumping someone off, all you’ve got to do is dress them in women's underwear, truss them up, stick a hoover up their bum & an orange in their mouth and dangle them from the ceiling or zip them in a holdall. That way the general public will be so busy thinking ‘Wow, what a perv’, that the issue of whether they killed themselves or were murdered tends to take a back seat.
