Are there any conspiracy theories that you just think could have an element of truth?

I love all things conspiracy theory - from a psychological/social point of view it's interesting to see what makes people fearful or pessimistic.

But I often do see some conspiracy theories a bit like Urban legends in that they could be an exaggerated truth.

Are there any conspiracy theories or rumours that you just think 'maybe...' or even ones you're completely sold on.

hopes nobody thinks the Queen is a metamorphic lizard alien

What they might have done is hushed up on some of the things they may have found there

John Lennon was a government hit job. He wasn’t holding back with his anti war beliefs and the powers that be wanted him out of the way.

House of Cards must have some truth in it too. You couldn’t make ALL of that shit up!

justasking111 · 20/05/2019 19:12

If you are rich and powerful you can cover up anything. Watching the #metoo movement for instance HW is going to walk away from that. It is how it works and always has. We are just little people of no consequence.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 20/05/2019 19:12

I believe that most governments are up to all sorts of shady things which would prevent most of us from sleeping if we knew about them. (This in not just because my sister works at GCHQ and I hate her!). Occasionally we get a glimpse when there is a scandal, but mostly we remain blissfully unaware.

I am reasonably certain that my cats are plotting against me. They may have enlisted my children.

All the rest is bollocks. Some of it is harmless, but a lot is damaging and vicious. Mostly I'm an Occam's Razor sort of person and even if the simplest explanation isn't always right, I don't care enough to torture myself by looking for sinister plots around every corner. It isn't necessary anyway- there is enough to be scared of without expending the extra energy worrying about conspiracies. Except about my cats, that one is definitely true!

@Outofinspiration whatever happened to that girl, it is a self imposed hell because of her being left alone.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/05/2019 19:12

AsMuchUseas do you mean that she was afraid of someone locally ? Or a stalker ?

WildfirePonie · 20/05/2019 19:19

Planet X
Sun Simulator
Chemtrails

MollyMinniesMum · 20/05/2019 19:22

All. of. Them....

OMG, Thank you! Me too, it's all so clear now. Those little feline demons!

The big one keeps wandering in front of me while I walk down the hall, hoping to trip me.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 20/05/2019 19:35

I think Henry 7th killed the princes in the tower not Richard 3rd.

Henry was a nasty man, Richard was supposed to have been a nice man, it wouldnt been in his character.

The Lancastrians wanted the throne and got it by any means necessary.

pollymere · 20/05/2019 19:37

Two. That the Americans didn't land on the moon when they said they did. And that Paul McCartney isn't...the actual Paul died in a car crash when he was dating Jane Asher.

MissConductUS · 20/05/2019 19:39

Donald Trump is absolutely a Lizard Person. It's the only possible explanation for his need to put ketchup on steak.

MoonstoneMagic · 20/05/2019 19:44

Diana was murdered
Not sure about Jill Dando
Marilyn Monroe was bumped off
Not sure about 9/11
I am semi convinced about the Illuminati

NunoGoncalves · 20/05/2019 19:45

I don't believe any famous person has ever died of natural causes or accidental death. They were all murders.

NorthbyNorthwest22 · 20/05/2019 19:45

Not necessarily a conspiracy theory but it’s true that there are high powered peadophiles all over the place, helping each other out of situations when needed.
My husband went to an all boys catholic school in Altrincham that is now notorious for abuse in the 1970s and 80s. Although luckily he was never sexually abused he was physically assaulted by both Christian brothers and teachers alike. The physical abuse would sometimes have a sexual element and almost every boy in the school was hit with the “bottom slayer” at some point. The bottom slayer was a cricket bat that boys were hit on the backside with as a punishment. The boy then signed the bat after. Anyway I digress...

Any teacher that had an accusation of abuse raised against them would be quickly moved to another school, often the same group of schools so not only were the school and governing body aware but also the Lea. Christian brothers were also given the same treatment or moved to another dioceses. No shock that the Catholic Church were quick to cover up abuse.
My husband knew boys who had made accusations who then had to leave the school but most were cases completely dismissed. It’s only been in the last few years that finally one man was brought to justice but my husband said it’s just the tip of the iceberg. A book was written by one of the survivors of the abuse and it’s a truly harrowing read and highlights the widespread coverups involved.

Anyway my main point being this was around the same time the now notorious Cyril Smith was operating and look how the authorities helped to cover that one up. Peadophiles are in every organisation and the coverups continue

This thread is depressing, there are some mumsnetters that appear normal but don't actually believe we landed on the moon. That's only one step away from being a Flat Earther

MsPavlichenko · 20/05/2019 19:50

bigKiteFlying J E Hoover died in 1972. So served only two further Presidents.

HouseName · 20/05/2019 19:52

Forced "car accidents" that could be foiled by wearing a seat belt?

It doesn't seem a very certain way to bump someone off, but they didn't take her to hospital quickly which always seems odd to me.

riceuten · 20/05/2019 19:57

7/7 - I think that either the "bombers" actually fooled MI5. I think what happened afterwards was a monstrous cover up.

And I think JFK wasn't offed by Lee Harvey Oswald.

BishopBrennansArse · 20/05/2019 19:58

@DontDribbleOnTheCarpet absolutely - the simplest explanation... Dando was a hit.... the speculation is about why.

Catastrophejane · 20/05/2019 19:59

Don’t believe in conspiracy theories- all these paedo rings were covered up because of something more banal - kids are powerless and a lot of these paedos held powerful positions. People didn’t want to rock the boat.

Jimi Hendrix, on the other hand, was probably murdered.

Littlepond · 20/05/2019 20:00

I fully believe that Paul McCartney died and was replaced by a lookalike.

I also believe in some form of the illuminati.

MentalMaggie · 20/05/2019 20:09

RomanyQueen1
She definitely wasn’t bumped off because of a paedo ring🤐.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/05/2019 20:15

I always think it a very sad coincidence that all the most decent and trustworthy Labour leaders died early deaths: John Smith, Mo Mowlam, Robin Cook. I wonder how different British politics would have been if a couple of them had lived longer lives.

AllAboutMeAlways · 20/05/2019 20:20

I believe conspiracy theories were invented so that the government had a quick way of spotting stupid, gullible people.
