Wow that's a different name for a Royal

I don't know why pps think HM would disapprove of the name Archie. In her generation, there were lots of upper-class Archies, usually Scottish aristocracy(?) I doubt if she'd be aware that it's now popular on working-class estates.

And so what if it is? It just makes it more classless - like Charlie. Bonnie Prince Charlie and Charlie Chaplin. It was the 19th most popular boy's name last year, according to the Mail. So not outlandish at all. It's a name that wouldn't be out of place in the officers' mess of the Blues and Royals, or at the other end of the social scale. It seems to be only the Hyacinth Buckets who go for Roland and Clarissa.

William and Kate are in an entirely different position. H & M have every right to do things their way. From what I gather H is v happy not to have the succession to the Crown hanging round his neck. But every time there's a break with tradition it's blamed on Meghan. She's a US citizen and proud of it, mixed race - ditto. Interesting that Michelle Obama was one of the first to congratulate them.

i never understood why Andrew's daughter's were given the title's of Princess's they never had to do anything for the country

In fairness, they were given the titles of Princess because they are princesses - granddaughters of the monarch in the male line. When they were born there would have been no expectation of them being anything other than princesses. It's Edward's children that are the anomaly, not Andrew's.

Blobby10 · 09/05/2019 10:37

Andrew's daughters were given the title of Princess because their parents wanted them to be royal and paid for by the public purse. There was a huge media outcry at the time if I remember correctly saying they shouldn't be Princess as so remote from the line of accession. Princess Anne rejected royal titles for Zara and Peter because they needed to work for a living and a royal title would have hindered that.Big media stories about that too but it soon died down.

cushioncovers · 09/05/2019 10:38

It's meh. It's Ok, but nothing special. Those names are two a penny around here.

stupidis · 09/05/2019 12:19

Am I reading too much into the fact that the goddess DIana is always depicted with a bow and arrow, and Archer - Archie?

ajandjjmum · 09/05/2019 12:57

That's a lovely thought stupidis.

kenandbarbie · 09/05/2019 13:10

As they've chosen it, I'd say it automatically becomes posh, being as he is seventh in line to the throne!

This is hilarious! Amazing to see all the people on here having meltdowns because the new royal has the same name as their ‘chavvy’ neighbours. All their ‘careful consideration’ about a ‘suitable’ name that ‘ages well’ and all the other bollocks that they thought made them superior to Archie across the roads parents means literally nothing anymore. Brilliant

The commentary on here is honestly what obnoxious. Leave them alone, they like it that’s what matters. You all sound like terrible snobs, no wonder mumsnet gets a rep for being toxic and judgemental.

Mels1991 · 10/05/2019 12:14

That’s pretty spiteful no? To call a babies name ‘infra-dig’? Bet you and Katie Hopkins would get on like a house on fire.

PortiaCastis · 10/05/2019 12:17

I just had to look up infra dig.
By God how appalling to say that, unbelievable!

SenecaFalls · 10/05/2019 12:27

That's not really what happened. There were no royal titles to reject. The only way that Anne's children could have royal titles would be if the Queen issued Letters Patent making them HRHs or if she had made Mark Phillips a prince. Royal titles pass in the male line. (George VI had to issue LPs for Charles and Anne to have royal titles when they were born to then Princess Elizabeth).

HappinessIsKey · 10/05/2019 12:28

The part I do not understand is that little Archie will automatically become a prince when Charles becomes king..so why not just give him the title now?

And all the hatred towards this little baby is shocking..to me just because he is so far down the line of the succession of the throne, doesn't make him any less special.

He is so very special in his own right, being the first mixed raced royal in modern history! He deserves just as much attention and joy, as George, Charlotte and Louis!

All the Meghan hatred is terrible as well, that she doesn't really love Harry, divorce will soon be on its way..how does anybody know that she doesn't truly love Harry?! Harry and Meghan seems so blissfully happy! His mum will be looking down with extreme proudness marrying Meghan and now having a beautiful baby..

All I say is congratulations to the three of them.
And little Archie is a very beautiful baby ❤️

RubberTreePlant · 10/05/2019 12:34

He won't have to use it, even when he has it.

SenecaFalls · 10/05/2019 12:34

I think that their choices may signal an intention not to have him use a princely title when Charles becomes king, similar to the current situation with Edward's children.

RubberTreePlant · 10/05/2019 12:35

Last Louise and Viscount Severn are also princess & prince, for example, but they don't use those titles.

SenecaFalls · 10/05/2019 12:37

I think it is also possible that Charles will issue new Letters Patent limiting royal titles to those in the direct line of succession. It's known that he wants to slim down the official RF, and I think that was a factor in the decision to have Edward's children avoid using royal titles.

Clarey19811981 · 10/05/2019 15:05

Christ some people on here have literally nothing better than slate someone they don't know...its none of your business what the baby is called and I'm sure they dont care what you think anyway.

It's a forum, ideas and views are exchanged, that's the idea of MN Talk.

Clarey19811981 · 11/05/2019 02:47

Yeah helpful views and ideas not vitriolic comments and underhand digs...and anyhow my comment was a thought to be shared but you took it upon yourself to belittle that.

allworthwhile · 11/05/2019 03:04

@HappinessIsKey He is so very special in his own right, being the first mixed raced royal in modern history!

He’s not the first mixed royal in modern history.

Hmm
allworthwhile · 11/05/2019 03:05

^mixed race royal.

BelulahBlanca · 11/05/2019 08:21

Isn’t MM a mixed race royal?
