Wow that's a different name for a Royal

SweetPeaPods · 08/05/2019 17:53

Oh I wasn’t expecting that! Wonder if the Queen approves!

BoglingToAswad · 08/05/2019 17:54

The snobbery on this thread is ridiculous.

Petalflowers · 08/05/2019 17:55

A lot of babies were called Archie at one point due to the series, Monarch of the Glen. It was considered a cool name then.

RubberTreePlant · 08/05/2019 17:56

What negative connotations does Archie have

Apparently some members of the working classes have been cheeky enough to use it.

chaosisaladder · 08/05/2019 18:05

It’s not what I was expecting but it’s not awful

Susiesoap7 · 08/05/2019 18:08

Not liking that

twattymctwatterson · 08/05/2019 18:14

British - you mean English don't you?

In Scotland we would say Aarchee. Or Erchee maybe depending on the accent.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 08/05/2019 18:15

Typical MN snobs on this thread, I see.

Not a ghastly popular name! And a simply dreadful American name.

Listen to yourselves.

Laterthanyouthink · 08/05/2019 18:15

I think it's great!

DuckWillow · 08/05/2019 18:17

Love how all the commoner MNers are sneering and and saying “dreadful name dahling”

Get over yerselves. Their baby and their choice.

PortiaCastis · 08/05/2019 18:18

Great name it's the same as the child next door and no we do not live on a so called sink estate

IdentifyasTired · 08/05/2019 18:22

I'm not a fan of the name but then I also don't understand why they would pass on the chance to use some bonkers old royal name. As in Charles James Alexander George Phillip Archibald Ethelred Mountbatten-Windsor. Now that would be a brilliant royal baby name! Why do they want to be normal?

MattMagnolia · 08/05/2019 18:23

At least it’s not American or spelled in an odd way. Just the shortened form of a horrible name, Archibald.
Archie is popular as a dog name.

hazeyjane · 08/05/2019 18:27

At least it’s not American

What's wrong with American?!

Jesus Christ, this thread is an absolute doozie.

DinosApple · 08/05/2019 18:31

I really like it.

But my children have top 10, 'Oh my dog's called that!' ( Hmm ) names too Grin.

Aragog · 08/05/2019 18:32

MattMagnolia

Why would an American name be bad? His mother is American, so it wouldn't have been that odd if they'd decided to use one surely?

BoglingToAswad · 08/05/2019 18:33

At least it’s not American

If you replace 'American' with Polish, Indian etc the xenophobia in that sentence becomes much clearer. Unbelievable.

EnidButton · 08/05/2019 18:35

Not going to comment on the name, I don't know anyone with it and I don't really have an opinion on it, but there will be lots of MNers on here who have dc called Archie. So maybe we should be mindful of that before being too harsh. It's not AIBU.

Frith2013 · 08/05/2019 18:37

Dull

slipperywhensparticus · 08/05/2019 18:43

They are "embracing there normality " considering there personal wealth it gets a bit eye rolling at times but it's not a fruit nut or Cadbury so back to Brexit news please

PattyCow · 08/05/2019 18:45

To be fair they couldn't win. It didn't matter what they named him. If they went traditional they'd have been slated as boring and falling into line with the firm. Going with a nickname as a formal name is common in the US and they will be slated for it. They couldn't win. He's a gorgeous little baby and should welcomed.

Agednotwine · 08/05/2019 18:46

It's actually growing on me the more I hear it.

jacksonmaine · 08/05/2019 18:54

And will he live in a pink house?
Do you mean " I'm Archie the Inventor"

Grin
Hepzibar · 08/05/2019 19:26

Dreadful.

Archie 'Arrison. Common

amusedbush · 08/05/2019 19:29

My dog’s name is Archie so I’m a fan Grin
