I'm cooking a chicken roast dinner, fancied it all day 😋

What you having?

OP posts:
JaneEyre07 · 30/04/2019 19:17

We had oven baked potatoes with Davidstow cheddar, DH had leftover spag bol from last night with his and DDs and I had spicy beanburgers with a mountain of veg including peas, sweetcorn, tenderstem broccoli and chantenay carrots.

It was a "night before Ocado" tea that involved a lot of scrabbling round in the fridge and freezer drawers Grin

FrequentNameChange · 30/04/2019 19:23

Pasta I homemade tomato and pancetta sauce, served with part baked baguette with balsamic/olive oil dipping.

Also jalapeño, salami and olives

Iwannasnack · 30/04/2019 19:44

Who had the traybake from the Ocado magazine. I’ve got that ripped out and stuck on my fridge. I need feedback!!

Spring chicken one pot. It’s bubbling well and smells all veggie loveliness and good for you.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 30/04/2019 20:09

Dh is cooking chicken kievs, roast potatoes, broccoli and M&S red cabbage. There will also be gravy.

RavenLG · 30/04/2019 21:30

Tonight we had steak with a mushroom and dijon mustard sauce with roasted kale and a baked sweet potato.
I still want pizza Grin

Snog · 30/04/2019 21:50

@Iwannasnack the Ocado traybake was good. Not top twenty good but we would have it again.

We are making a few new recipes from the Ocado magazine this week and so far the sausage casserole is the winner by a mile. Made it with the amazing sausages from the local butcher. We have also made the shepherds pie which was fine but not as good as my usual shepherds pie recipe.

BooseysMom · 01/05/2019 05:52

@RavenLG...the steak and mushroom and Dijon sauce sounds lovely. Do you make the sauce yourself? I'm looking for ideas for new recipes as I'm bored of the usual stuff we have every week

Iwannasnack · 01/05/2019 07:04

Thanks @snog. I want to try the salmon curry first I think

Snog · 01/05/2019 07:31

Let me know what you think of the salmon curry, that's not one I'm trying this week.

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 01/05/2019 07:33

Tofu steaks, brown rice and stir-fried broccoli and carrots. Delicious!

RavenLG · 01/05/2019 08:26

@BooseysMom yeah from scratch, it good with amounts I just eyeball make it up

Sweat down some shallots or onions in a pan, add mushrooms. Set them to one side, fry your steaks how you like. Take off and rest then deglaze the pan with a good glug of white wine (don’t always use this just depends if we have it left over) and some stock. And the dijon mustard to taste, about 2 tsp for us, and chuck the mushrooms and shallots back in. Simmer for a few minutes then add some double cream (maybe 50mls) and a little cornflour slurry to thicken if you like. Sometimes I’ve made too much and ate it from the pan with some bread Blush

RavenLG · 01/05/2019 08:27

*I’m not good with amounts. I should learn to proofread

DeadWife · 01/05/2019 09:12

SmileMrsjayy, it's just my version he prefers but I don't do anything extra, the usual butter, milk, seasoning; sometimes a bit of cream.

I think it's 'special' in comparison to his dad's lumpy efforts...

Mrsjayy · 01/05/2019 09:31

Ah lumpy shepherds pie my Dd insists she mashes the potatoes if she is in for dinner she says she is helping but in reality her mash is better than mine Blush

despondentatwork · 01/05/2019 09:33

Where do you all get your Falafals from??

CakeNinja · 01/05/2019 09:50

Despondent I make mine, making them tonight.
So easy and way more flavour than any shop bought ones that I have ever tried.

Snog · 01/05/2019 15:24

Oooh can you point me at a falafel recipe? That would be awesome!

happypotamus · 01/05/2019 15:58

girlraisedinthesouth you have just introduced me to the concept of tofu steaks. I have never heard of them in all my researching recipes since DH became vegan. They look amazing.

Tonight I am eating fishcakes with peas and potato waffles.

CatManIsInHisDressingGownAgain · 01/05/2019 17:19

Tonight it's seafood pasta followed by a glass of wine and a bag of Maltesters whilst watching the last two episodes of The Widow.

Seafood pasta recipe:
Crushed garlic, dried parsley and dried chilli flakes fried gently in some olive oil
Add tin of tomatoes, some prawns, tin of tuna, capers and add cooked pasta

Forgoing garlic bread to save room for wine and chocolate 😇

BooseysMom · 01/05/2019 17:57

@RavenLG..Thank you v much for the recipe. I'll give it a go with some steaks for Sat night Smile

BooseysMom · 01/05/2019 18:00

@CatManIsInHisDressingGownAgain..the seafood pasta recipe sounds good and really simple which believe me i need!. I'll try that soon ..thanksSmile

SongforSal · 01/05/2019 18:05
