Just watching This Morning and Max Beesley is on there. Oh my, did I used to fancy him but blimey AFAIC he has not aged well. He just looks like some boring middle aged NDN now.

Daniel Day Lewis. Gorgeous then, gorgeous now

Jeff Goldblum. Handsome then and now.

Katie Price. Was so attractive when she started out. Not now

Russell Crowe. He had something about him Now just a jowly middle aged man.

Emma Thompson. Had no work done and looks far better now than she used to

My DH. I think he's more handsome than he used to be, he's grown into his grey hair and wrinkles, whereas I just look like a grey haired old woman Grin

How's a thread discussing how well or not people have aged ever going to be lighthearted?
Awful.
Ageing is inevitable, if we are lucky.
Being an arsehole about others appearances - not so inevitable, but you carry on

FiremanKing · 26/04/2019 14:53

Lassie. Has been in films since the 1940s and still looks amazing.

GottaGetUp · 26/04/2019 14:58

Thread about how beautiful some people are = lighthearted

Thread about how old and haggard some people are = horrible

Roussette · 26/04/2019 15:20

Oh well done wokenup nothing like a negative person to drag a thread down to their level.

I don't suppose you or GottaGetUp ever look at anyone and comment on anything about them. Ever.

Please note there was a lot of positivity in my OP too.

1943 with Elizabeth Taylor and in 2018.

Hasn’t aged a bit although has a bit more white fur than in their younger days.

All my list were people I think look great at their age. Not mentioned any poor where but they're generally the heavy smokers and drug takers from days of yore.

SophiaLarsen · 26/04/2019 15:50

That was an awful auto correct! I meant people who had not aged well not the poor!!

InTheHeatofLisbon · 26/04/2019 15:53

Ah yes because positivity entirely negates slating someone for something they can't help about their appearance, silly me Hmm

But hey, feel free to get your kicks from slating random celebrities. It's your life.

However taking a snotty tone implying you have the moral high ground is more than a bit ridiculous.

It's not light-hearted to make personal comments about someone's appearance. It's spiteful. At least be honest about it!

GottaGetUp · 26/04/2019 16:03

I don't suppose you or GottaGetUp ever look at anyone and comment on anything about them. Ever.

Nope, wouldn’t cross my mind to make unkind comments about anyone’s appearance. Maybe their behaviour...

ems137 · 26/04/2019 16:17

I loved Danny Dyer when he was younger, not so much now though

I think David Beckham is ageing amazingly! He looks so hot these days whereas I can't say I thought much of him in his Man Utd days.

Roussette · 26/04/2019 17:05

Goodness me intheHeat you need to polish that halo of yours! Didn't know such perfect people existed on MN!

OP posts:
InTheHeatofLisbon · 26/04/2019 17:07

Roussette alright then, since it's such a normal and decent thing to do to pick apart someone's appearance, and I'm clearly in the wrong for suggesting otherwise, how about a selfie?

Then we can pick your appearance apart. How about that?

Roussette · 26/04/2019 17:15

I am not picking apart someone's appearance. There is a thread going at the moment about ageing. Go and have a look at it. It's a fact that we all age, and on that thread there are posters who have grown into themselves, there's honesty on there, it's just people talking about ageing, some are OK with it, some aren't, and it also prompted this thread, which appears to have got you really worked up. We all age. Some better than others. I would say I haven't aged particularly well, but I make the best of what I've got and I'm happy in my skin.

Feel free to pick my appearance apart. I'm in my 60s, I'm slightly overweight, I have grey hair. For privacy purposes, quite understandably, I will not be posting a picture of myself. That'll give you something to crow over I'm sure! But there again I'm not a celebrity am I?

I hope that's a detailed enough answer for you.

OP posts:
InTheHeatofLisbon · 26/04/2019 17:21

That's just an awful lot of words explaining that you derive pleasure from snarking at someone's else's appearance.

I didn't expect a selfie, funnily enough.

I'm worked up because people being spiteful dressed up as "being light-hearted" is utterly pathetic, nasty and spiteful.

Not personally worked up, because I don't give much of a shit about appearance, mine or other people's.

But you carry on pretending that spite is normal.

Roussette · 26/04/2019 17:29

I do hope you are as prolific on threads slagging off different famous people on MN... Victoria Beckham, Katie Price, Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton et al, all of which are far far worse than this thread. I presume you police those threads too, given your presence here.

Of course, you wouldn't expect me to post a selfie, I don't even have one on my FB page, there isn't one on the internet anywhere, so I'd hardly be posting one here would I? I value my privacy so your sarcasm at me refusing to do so is rather petty and pathetic.

I won't be engaging with you any more because I feel there's some sort of hidden agenda here.

OP posts:
InTheHeatofLisbon · 26/04/2019 17:32

I would be, and have been in the past under other names.

Other people being nastier and more spiteful than you doesn't change your intention.

I didn't ask for a selfie because I actually wanted to pick apart your appearance, I wanted to get the point across that it feels very different when you're the target of it.

Which I have now done.

Ugly on the inside springs to mind, irrespective of outward appearance.

Roussette · 26/04/2019 17:39

And you sound bitter but hey ho, don't worry about it.

For the very last time , read my posts. I had no intention of being nasty and spiteful. I explained how my thread came about. You have made a complete mountain out of a molehill.

Very confused about how you have supposedly now pointed something out about being the target. If I didn't worry about privacy you're welcome to pick my appearance to bits, I'm an older woman that knows her physical faults.

How convenient you had a name change to do your policing.

FiremanKing · 26/04/2019 17:39

Aging well or not is a fact. Being attractive or not is in the eye of the beholder.

The op is asking who is aging well or not.

It’s not spiteful to say someone in the public eye is aging well or not as the answer’s are factual responses.

Some celebrities are not aging well despite their wealth and access to health and beauty treatments. For example, George Clooney.

Others such as Jane Seymour have aged well although she’s probably had cosmetic/surgical help.

I don’t think the op is mean spirited to comment on celebrities when their bread and butter is to put their appearance out there.

I also don’t think George Clooney is on Mumsnet and if he was I don’t think he will be at all worried about what any of us think about him, good or bad.

Roussette · 26/04/2019 17:44

Thank you fireman. As I explained, my thread came about because of this thread... I never thought it would create a firestorm. But apparently I'm mean, spiteful and ugly on the inside...

For God's sake, what is it with the fun sucking thread police. Don't dare mention the Royals, any celebrity gossip, plastic surgery.

It's sooooo fucking sanctimonious.

In his book Sapiens, Yuval Noah Hrari suggests that it's gossip that made humans what they are today.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 26/04/2019 17:47

I didn't have a name change for this thread don't flatter yourself. I sign up and dereg fairly regularly.

People who choose to mock or belittle other people aren't decent people.

If you choose to do that, fair enough, but expect to be told you're being shitty. Because your actions are shitty.

As I said, I couldn't give a shit what you (or anybody else) looks like.

Not bitter in the slightest, just sick fed up of people who enjoy putting other people down trying to justify it.

Because really, there's no need for it is there?

Deriving pleasure from picking apart appearance is vacuous and unecessary.

I don't like bullying behaviour and I don't like people who are snide. I'd say the same to your face in RL.

Would you say the things you've said about celebrities to theirs?

MargotLovedTom1 · 26/04/2019 17:48

I wonder if Max's bottom is still peachy....(recently rewatched Bodies!).

Roussette · 26/04/2019 17:58

Lisbon you're sounding ridiculous now. Would I say to Max Beesley he hasn't aged as well as I had expected him to? If the occasion arose, yes! And he can call me an old boot, don't care.

How the heck I'm bullying I don't know.

Not bitter in the slightest, just sick fed up of people who enjoy putting other people down trying to justify it
Funny how you haven't mentioned about all the people who I said look fabulous .... DD Lewis, Jeff Goldblum, Emma Thompson.

Before you came along I had another load of people I was going to say looked wonderful but you just trashed the thread before I could. But I'll mention them anyway... Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Salma Hayek... and there's more
