Is this Peak Jilly?

I have just made myself an omelette using wild garlic foraged from the woods on a walk with my labrador. I can confirm wild garlic is quite whiffy, not sure I’d go so far as to describe it as a ‘sexy reek’.

Have I reached Peak Jilly or is there anything else I could be doing this afternoon that would be Jillicious????

I've always wanted to try Jilly's miracle hangover cure, Fernet Branca. I have never seen it on sale anywhere.

FenellaMaxwell · 13/04/2019 03:51

It’s frah-ca

Fazackerley · 13/04/2019 07:40

I've just ordered the dupe for 2.25!

fracas dupe

Fazackerley · 13/04/2019 07:41

sorry, fracas dupe

Minkies11 · 13/04/2019 07:45

I did buy a tester for Fracas from eBay once (classy!) but lost it. Must get another! Never come across Quercus though...
And what is fernet branca? off to google

Orchardgreen · 13/04/2019 07:48

Last year I booked a holiday cottage. The owner mentioned that her dog was called Culprit. Soooooo Jilly Cooper. I knew I would like said owner, and I did.

JoyousAsOtters · 13/04/2019 08:14

I wonder how many of us have done things Because Jilly Said So?

Apparently Caitlin Moran named herself after the character in Rivals.

Fernet Branca is a digestif liqueur like an even grosser jagermeister

I too have a garden stuffed full of her recommendations (which world really well btw - she should do a gardening book)

I can’t folllow her politics as I’m pretty sure we’re poles apart - doesn’t stop me loving the books though!

I wear Fracas Grin You can get it at Liberty and online I'm sure. And today I am going to make sloe gin. Love this thread.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 13/04/2019 08:47

Apparently Penhaligon’s Quercus smells just like CK One

CallMeMousie · 13/04/2019 09:16

Joyous of course ay ripped out that fraightful old oak panelling and put in some naice modern pvc windows at Green Lawns as quickly as I could. Rag rolling is next on the agenda.

I remember getting Quercus scented stuff in a hotel on honeymoon and being in raptures...although in fact I found it very lemony and masculine and didn't like it at all! Still tempted to order the fracas dupe though because I am a sucker for all things Jilly. My planting schemes are definitely influenced by her - someone needs to release a Jilly gardening book!

Fazackerley · 13/04/2019 09:16

Fernwt branca is disgusting

JoyousAsOtters · 13/04/2019 09:38

@fazackerly did you have some for breakfast?
After your friends found you asleep in the stables in your ball dress and chucked a bucket of freezing horse trough water over you?

There’s a spring flower and plant sale in the village hall today so that sounds promisingly Jillyesque doesn’t it?

What should I wear????

Minkies11 · 13/04/2019 10:15

You could slap on some base, pull on an ancient pair of jeans and a cuddly jumper. Or go a bit racy in some velvet shorts from Jigsaw (hardly appropriate!).
I'm orf to a garden centre shortly with Mother but haven't even bothered with base!
What should we buy?
Sex freesias or look for the mythical Paradise Pearl wisteria?

DameDaffodil · 13/04/2019 10:34

Reading this thread inspired me to cut the fringe back in that I've been growing out! Didn't use bacon rindy scissors though, just the ones I trim the horses manes with Grin Surely that gives me some points on the Jillyometer?!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/04/2019 10:38

Not for nothing was he known as the James Galway of cunnilingus

Ooh that's got to be Viking !

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 13/04/2019 10:38

I think you should wear hot pants to show off your long tanned legs topped with a cashmere sweater left behind by your lover and still smelling of quercus and cigarettes. You should look for some love-in-a-mist.

JoyousAsOtters · 13/04/2019 14:17

@DameDaffodil fantastic commitment with the horse clippers, well done. Alas I don't have my own horse (although there is a very lovely one that lives in the field behind my house and comes to talk to JoyousDog over the fence), perhaps I could brush my hair with the dog's comb?

@70isalimitnotatarget nope, not Viking (sigh, that peat-soft voice...), guess again!

Alas no love-in-a-mist at the plant sale, JDog and I were a bit late so we'd missed the judging of the various plants and lots had already been sold. They seemed a very competitive lot I must say! And quite a few would doubtless be described as whiskery old trouts in the books.

Absolutely no crumpet unless you count the really quite delicious tea and cakes.

alltoomuchrightnow · 13/04/2019 14:26

if Fracas has top notes of hyacinth I certainly won't be purchasing the dupe.
I'd honestly prefer notes of garlic and horse.
AllToo cat stinks permanently of horse anyway, with all his stable romps.

Fazackerley · 13/04/2019 18:32

You could definitely brush your hair with the dog's brush otters as long as you do it absent mindedly.

Puppylucky · 13/04/2019 21:02

Fracas smells of tuberose and vanilla. Madonna's Truth or Sare fragrance is a perfect dupe (Fracas was her mother's favourite perfume)

Puppylucky · 13/04/2019 21:02

Sare =Dare

Moonflower12 · 13/04/2019 21:23

I feel I have scored quite a few Jilly points. I have lived in both Gloucestershire and Rutland- making Rutshire obviously!

I have 2 ponies- not quite a string but still!

We used to live in a pretty-on-the-outside cottage that truly had a Jillyesque bathroom. (ie a bit grotty). I always was imagining myself in the books when I was in the bath.

And I have bought myself a cashmere jumper in Cavendish House! About 25 years ago....

I love Jilly as she campaigned stridently for my daughter's school to remain open- and it did.

Minkies11 · 13/04/2019 21:39

Does anyone have a favourite Jilly character? Did love Lizzie Vereker and Flora. Bloody hated Helen though....

IheartCaptainHolt · 13/04/2019 21:45

Caitlin and Flora are my favourite characters

vampirethriller · 13/04/2019 22:12

I love Kitty, Daisy and Hermione- she's horrible but so much fun to read. I love Lysander too and Ricky. I had a teacher like Rachel, unwashed and aggressively eco friendly, and can only see her when I read MWMHJ. Puts me off a bit.
