Is this Peak Jilly?

I have just made myself an omelette using wild garlic foraged from the woods on a walk with my labrador. I can confirm wild garlic is quite whiffy, not sure I’d go so far as to describe it as a ‘sexy reek’.

Have I reached Peak Jilly or is there anything else I could be doing this afternoon that would be Jillicious????

Oh yes I loved rivals. That was the last one I really loved.

Holidayshopping · 12/04/2019 20:09

I love the girl name ones best-Imogen was the first one I read, but love Prudence, Bella and Emily too!

Some of the later ones were shite -especially the school one with Paris kissing the head teacher, and the stuff with the sex scandal in the children’s homes were interesting! Did Jilly know something we didn’t then?!

I love the early ones with Rupert/Billy/Taggie etc Janey was my favourite-I wondered if Jilly based Janey on her?!

The sheer vileness of Hermione made me giggle.
There was a ditty/poem in Appasionata which really made me cry with laughter :
'If forty whores in purple drawers
Were walking down the Strand.....
Anyone remember that?
I'm a bit hazy.....

If Jilly looked like this the whole time no wonder they were all in and out of each other's haylofts / land rovers / orchards / airplane loos / horse boxes! This was her on TV in the early seventies. Mind you, she has clearly washed her hair, if not found time to put any underwear on.

ooh lovely thread. I loved the early ones best. Liked the girl named ones, but have only read a couple, but my favourites were Riders (I mean horses and sex, who could resist that combo) and Rivals as I loved Lizzie, Caitlin and of course lovely Taggie with her teddy bear voice. I now have an overwhelming urge to buy some Fracas and slap on some man tan.

Holidayshopping · 12/04/2019 20:34

Hermione's son was vile, too! Cosmo??

JoyousAsOtters · 12/04/2019 20:37

@Callmemousie have you had the walls dragged a nice light apricot?
And do you have a Very Clean Neck?

My god, Jilly looks amazing. I did read an interview where she said everyone was have sex with everyone in the 70s (I clearly missed out, but then I didn't look like that unfortunately).

Minkies11 · 12/04/2019 20:43

Wish I had a Meredith to help me decorate my house. Along with the merrily crackling apple logs B&Q pallet and striped wallpaper I've quite run out of ideas!

PenguindreamsofDraco · 12/04/2019 20:43

And all the time the dirty swine was coming in his hand is the punchline IIRC Grin

Has JoyousDog been giving you an old fashioned look? If not you're definitely only at an 8 max on the Jillyometer.

Minkies11 · 12/04/2019 20:47

Thanks @penguins GrinGrin

BestIsWest · 12/04/2019 20:48

Wow, she does look amazing. I love her early stuff though much of it doesn’t stack up too well.
She did love a low cut frock.

I have a wonderful book called The British in Love where she talks about her love life alongside lovely prose and poetry.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 12/04/2019 21:00

I've just remember I also really liked The Common Years.

SophoclesTheFox · 12/04/2019 21:26

I’m sloshing three fingers of whisky into a glass right now. I’ve just had a fracas-scented bath and left the bath in a state, but I’ll let the daily tidy up tomorrow as I can’t see what I’m doing for my clean hair flopping in my face.

Young Jilly is HAWT!

JoyousAsOtters · 12/04/2019 22:14

Wasn't there a bit in one of the books about someone being 'like a squirrel' in bed too?

I’ve just used the bacon scissors for tidying my fringe so now it’s separating.

Minkies11 · 12/04/2019 22:54

I remember a piece of incidental music being described as a load of bears having a drunken saucepan fight. Thought that was brilliant.

alltoomuchrightnow · 12/04/2019 23:19

My dad does not read her books but he adores JC herself.
Which is why DM has never been allowed to cut her JC esque thick wavy hair too short

alltoomuchrightnow · 12/04/2019 23:20

Can anyone tell me what Fracas smells like? Is it even available still?

alltoomuchrightnow · 12/04/2019 23:20

(at least I have wild garlic around my home to roll in if need to be fragrant)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/04/2019 23:23

I don't know about Fracas, but Quercus is nice (although I can't remember who drenched herself in that — Abby maybe?). I think a man or woman could wear it easily though.

JoyousAsOtters · 13/04/2019 00:15

I’m rereading Score at the mo and Polkadots you’re right, Quercus is for men and women and loads of the characters wear it. Sorry, tip bottles of it over themselves.

Fracas is quite strong and floral, like tuberose I think. But not smelt it for ages. Do you think she got free scent for plugging it or something?

And I’ve just read: ‘Not for nothing was he known as the James Galway of cunnilingus’ Grin about guess who?

ooh I think I would like Fracas , do I need an oldfashioned perfumery type establishment like Libertys?

alltoomuchrightnow · 13/04/2019 00:25

Is it pronounced Frack- argh?
