Just that really, what one unsolved crime/mystery/news story do toy wish would be solved?

For me, its Madeleine McCann. It may well just be because of the age I am, its one of the first ones I remember really clearly as it happened.

What about you?

Fire, I didn't realise it was that miniscule. But did you get the impression the policeman thought it was BG?

JuniorAsparagus · 19/04/2019 17:57

I got that impression, yes.
However a minute particle of residue inside a coat one year later? The had a forensic scientist on the programme who said that would not now be admissable as evidence that Barry George did it.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/04/2019 18:01

My post disappeared 🙄

IIRC the policeman said as far as he was concerned they'd got the right man, there was no ambiguity about it.

How the hell did BG get residue on him? Very odd Confused

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 18:01

I don’t like to think that the police jumped on Barry George because they were under pressure to find the killer but it was such a shocking and high profile murder it does make you wonder why they were so keen it was him.

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 18:03

How did he come into contact with residue from a fired gun?

If you use public transport, frequent pubs, public toilets etc I imagine it’s possible to pick up all kinds of stuffZ

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/04/2019 18:03

And right hand /left hand thing- I'm pretty sure I could fire a gun using my non dominant hand. I can't see how that rules him out.

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 18:20

But if you were going to murder someone would you take a chance and use your ‘weaker’ hand?

It’s an interesting debate as the killer was very precise with where they placed the gun on her head.

The nozzle in contact with her so as to avoid splatter etc

Would you be confident to do that with your less dominant hand? Especially if you haven’t killed before.

A professional killer might be able to as presumably they would have the practice.

Bamaluz · 19/04/2019 18:22

Nobody has mentioned the shooting in the Alps where four people were killed, that one hasn't been solved has it?

Yogagirl123 · 19/04/2019 18:24

Couldn’t choose just one, so many families need closure.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/04/2019 19:38

Yes the Alps that was shocking...one girl survived??

FairfaxAikman · 19/04/2019 19:48

Both children survived. One was uninjured as she was hidden in the footwell.

WillGymForPizza · 19/04/2019 21:49

It wasn't just the family who were killed in the alps was it? A cyclist who'd obviously come across the scene was also murdered.

I never believed Barry George was guilty of killing Jill Dando either.

shirleyschmidt · 19/04/2019 23:48

There are lots but I've recently seen the Staircase and couldn't make up my mind as to whether he was guilty.

Offallycheap · 19/04/2019 23:53

I watched the staircase too and was left wondering.

Even his lawyer seemed to be backing away.

Izzabellasasperella · 20/04/2019 04:40

I found it odd that the Jill Dando documentary didn't mention the pedophile/Jimmy savile theory? Was that because it has no evidence?

JuniorAsparagus · 20/04/2019 06:45

I thought it did, but dismissed it.
Interesting that Nick Ross was so sure Barry George didn't do it, because at the time he was sure the Police had got the right man.

SansaryaAgain · 20/04/2019 07:34

I once worked with a woman who knew Barry George. He stalked her for a bit but she was convinced he couldn't have murdered JD as he was so inept a stalker. He used to wear roller skates when he followed her, so she always heard him coming! She wasn't very fazed by it - just said he was an oddball but not capable of murder.

JuniorAsparagus · 20/04/2019 07:39

I have heard many stories about Barry, but not that one!
I don't think anyone who knows him thinks he is capable of the murder. Apart from the Police that is.

AdorableMisfit · 20/04/2019 07:50

I would like to know who assassinated the Swedish prime minister Olof Palme in February 1986. I grew up there, was 7 at the time and I still have very vivid memories of waking up before everyone else on a Saturday morning at my grandma's house and turning on the TV only to be met with news of his murder instead of the usual cartoons.

The Princes in the Tower, although I do believe it will be solved because the search of archives abroad and further afield

Lisa Dorrian, I know some of the families of the people involved and really feel for the Dorian's. The police have searched an area very near us
for her remains but some unusual activity the night before and after suggests things changed.

Jon Benet I read so much about that as a teenager and would love to see it solved

I wonder if her brother, Burke, will one day write his tell-all story. Maybe after Mr Ramsay, the father has died.

WillGymForPizza · 20/04/2019 16:06

Why on earth would anyone want to kill Jill Dando though? That intself has always puzzled me. She was so inoffensive, and by all accounts was a genuinely nice person. No one who knew her had a bad word to say about her and there were no skeletons in her closet at all

So, so strange. I don't think the police have the foggiest who did it either.
