Just that really, what one unsolved crime/mystery/news story do toy wish would be solved?

For me, its Madeleine McCann. It may well just be because of the age I am, its one of the first ones I remember really clearly as it happened.

What about you?

Harvey and Jeannette Crew murdered in New Zealand in 1970. They were murdered on their family farm. Their 18month old baby was not fed for three days before their bodies were found.

Or was she.....?

Jeanette's father has been implicated but never charged.

ToEarly The Crewe murders have always fascinated me too. . . (from NZ). There is the concenus that Jeanette's father did it, unfortunately he is dead now so can't be charged. Disgusting that an innocent man was sent to jail for 10 years.
I wonder what happened to Rochelle?

thethethethethe · 18/04/2019 07:46

From what I've read, Rochelle managed to get the police to look at the case again, and they told her that her grandfather was not implicated.

user1493423934 · 18/04/2019 08:00

Hmm interesting. wonder who fed her after the murders? I believe she is in Australia now.

ShatnersWigIsActuallyAMammoth · 18/04/2019 08:11

@thethe Is absolutely correct. The Police did look at the case again and they do not believe Rochelle's grandfather was involved in the murders. Yet people still pop up saying he did it.

Joan Risch
Sounds like she wanted to disappear

user1493423934 · 18/04/2019 10:22

Fireman I believe there was a movie recently about the Sodder children?

Who shot PC Sidney Miles in 1952. Derek Bentley (who had learning difficulties and was actually under arrest/with the other police officers at the time) was hung for a crime which he didn't commit. And yet... I don't think his accomplice, Christopher Craig, was responsible, either.

Keith Bennett. Although I'm a bit sceptical about whether he was a Moors Murder victim, or if Brady and Hindley just latched on to his disappearance as a way of control (Brady, in particular).

I'd also like to know who The Avenbury Knight was.

I've never heard that theory before!! That's an interesting thought.

Pixel99 · 18/04/2019 12:51

Lee Boxall - he was a similar age to me and was possibly off to a football match.

Keith Bennett - so he could be laid to rest with his mum.

Ben Needham - his parents have struggled to get the same support given to others.

And whilst we sadly know what is likely to have happened to April Jones - where is her body for her family to lay to rest.

As others have said it is especially hard where children are involved and where there is no body.

You have our love and sympathy - simple words I appreciate.

For me, Madeline McCann.

Many years ago, I worked for the solicitor who represented John Cannan. He was very completely & utterly certain that Cannan was responsible for the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh.

The Jamison family who went missing in rural Oklahoma in 2009. They were on a recce to buy land to build a home on. Their car was found abandoned on a rural track - family dog and a bundle of cash inside. The remains of the family were eventually found 5 years later. There are multiple strange theories about what might have happened but no actual leads.

Also Brian Schaffer who disappeared from a bar in Ohio in 2006. There is ctv of everyone who was at the bar that night Entering (including Brian) and of everyone except Brian leaving. He hasn’t been seen since.

This case is an odd one. The bodies of a woman and 3 girls

Minai · 19/04/2019 14:04

Sorry posted too soon-

The bodies of a woman and 3 girls were found. The woman was found to be maternally related to 2 of them but not the middle one. It seems strange that they haven’t been identified after all this time.

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 14:15

The forensic evidence suggested that the adult woman and two of the children that were related to her were from the area.

That makes it even not strange that they have not been identified. No relatives, no friends, no colleagues, no one at all is missing these three?

Terribly sad.

JuniorAsparagus · 19/04/2019 15:01

Re: Jill Dando. Yes the BBC documentary did give the impression that the Police thought they had the right man. However there is another documentary coming up on ITV so it will be interesting to see if they reach the same conclusion.
Barry George's sister has written a book, Stand Against Injustice, which suggests the Police were not entirely competent.

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 15:09

I never thought it was Barry George.

If it was an amateur murder from an obsessed fan it’s quite possible he would have wanted a souvenir and would have taken one of her personal possessions. But nothing was taken.

It was swift, it was deadly and the act of a professional assassin.

JuniorAsparagus · 19/04/2019 15:17

Also the wound was on the left of her head and Barry George is right handed.

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 15:59

I don’t think Barry was fleet of foot either.

The murderer left the scene very quickly.

I think if you’ve never murdered anyone before you might be temporarily rooted to the spot, even checking they were dead by firing other shots.

The murderer knew exactly where to shoot her and then leave immediately.

Yes, back then Barry might have read a book about how to shoot someone but this was a very emotionless killing and doesn’t fit his ‘oddball’ persona.

There was no apparent lurking beforehand, building up a swear of shall I, shan’t I beforehand as an amateur/novice killer might behave.

The asassin went for the kill without any hesitation.

It’s so sad to think she was only 37 and to wonder what her life would have been.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/04/2019 17:20

I still don't understand re the 'conclusion' of Barry George... that the speck of gun powder in this coat came from the tube/public transport. They showed photos showing he was already interested in guns. I think he owned his own? Doesn't mean he owned 'the' gun though.
I'm still on the fence about it. After all, Ian Huntley pleaded insanity . What if BG played up his oddball persona to his own advantage?
I'm still inclined to think it's not him though.
Nothing mentioned about fiance, paedo rings etc

FiremanKing · 19/04/2019 17:26

The prosecution claimed that a single speck of firearms residue found in George's coat pocket lining linked him to the shooting. But George's defence team said the particle - less than a half of a thousandth of an inch in size - was completely unreliable as evidence.

Forensic science is amazing but that particle is just so small...
