Who is watching? Women's race at 2:15, men's race at 3:15
Go light blues Wink

Weather is set for light winds but rather wet.

disclaimer: normally I have zero interest in boat racing.

Oh yes, not shoehorned JAMES CRACKNELL in for at least a minute.

Said by the Dr with Balders, “We must remember the reason for his studies is to reform government policy...”. Interesting as he is a (failed) Tory candidate. Two birds. One stone.

Ethelswith · 07/04/2019 15:49

"Also are men allowed to be coxes in the women's crews?"

Yes, and there is also a long and successful tradition of women coming men's crews

CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 15:51

All they need to do is for JC to ID as a woman and enter into the women’s team next year and I will spontaneously bloody combust.

As an aside, I like Dara’s thighs.

So one member of the Cambridge crew appears not to be wearing the sponsored wellies...hhmm.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 15:51

Women have coxed the men’s crew in the past so I imagine men could cox for the women’s. I wonder if we’ll ever see mixed, or trans crews?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 15:51

for pities sake!

OP posts:
BondiandBabe · 07/04/2019 15:52

Oh look, there he is. "Uncle James."

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 15:52

He drove the minibus Grin

Oh look! Back to JC.

The BBC are trolling me now.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 15:53

X post CutSomeRug! Uncanny!

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 15:53

who's front and centre in that team photo, I wonder?! Oh look.

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 15:56

(ok not quite front, that was the cox, but still)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 15:56

Same time next year then?

OP posts:
CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 15:56

See you then!

Eve · 07/04/2019 15:58

Many years ago I was a cox for a men’s 8, I thought I was fat at 42kgs! 😬

I had a ball - we were top 10 in the country in our final year together- and raced all over the country!

Now 25 years later I doubt my arse would fit in the coxes seat!

CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 15:58

This is interesting though. From the front page of the Cambridge rowing 2019 site. Cracknell chopped off...

Boat race today!
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 15:59

I’ll be here
🍾 cheers!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 07/04/2019 15:59

I hoping Steve Redgrave does a PHD next year and takes JC's record for oldest in boat race Grin

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 16:05

He's not chopped off on the desktop site though!

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 16:06

But the clock on the cubc website doesn't seem to know about summer time! It's still saying 6 minutes to go before it starts :)

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 16:12

I didn't realise how close in timing the reserve races were, either. I thought they were this morning, but they were sandwiched in between the women's and men's races, but just not televised. Or not even quite in between, but overlapping, from the sounds of it., 15 min apart, so before the other one had even finished.

CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 16:16

Ah, it’s obviously not very well set up for mobile use pickle

CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 16:18

Ah, if I turn the iPad around into landscape, he appears (along with another fella, obviously nowhere near as vital).

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/04/2019 21:49

Had to watch on catch-up but was good to watch knowing the result! Yey, Cambridge!

I agree that the focus on JC was too much given that this is so very much a team event, but it's a bit harsh to describe him as a dick, given the massively traumatic brain injury he suffered which has had a profound and permanent impact on his personality due to the frontal lobe damage he suffered.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 08/04/2019 15:10

Fantastic article in The Times today (which I can't link as I read on DH's iPad) written by JC's STBXDW which is so insightful.
Very powerful and honest tale of what JC was like to live with-
and the effects of his horrible accident.
Wonder if anyone can post link?
DM has a story about the story but was trying to not post a DM link
