Who is watching? Women's race at 2:15, men's race at 3:15
Go light blues Wink

Weather is set for light winds but rather wet.

disclaimer: normally I have zero interest in boat racing.

Timesis behind a paywall. There is stuff in the express and the DM.

Basically she says he has been very single minded and selfish in the 8 years since his head injury. She lost the husband she had and he became very difficult to live with. It does happen (also happens with some people who’ve had strokes if the wrong part of the brain is affected), it can be incredibly difficult for loved ones to cope with.

I imagine that as an Olympian and a very driven, World Record breaker and ambitious sports person, pre-injury, he was also quite single minded and selfish (in order to accommodate the psychology and amount of training required for such feats). So she must’ve already had a high tolerance for that sort of thing.

She pulls no punches-this quote in particular:
She added that the sportsman, 46, had 'underestimated' the time commitment that his new lease of life would involve, and said his drive to become the oldest competitor in the famous race was partly to blame for their marriage falling apart.

Writing in The Times, she said: 'James has spoken publicly about this latest feat, demonstrating to his children you can do anything you set your mind to.

'He won't mind me admitting that I consider that to be b***ks - I wouldn't want my children to view such an exit from familial responsibilities as something to aspire to.'

Good on her

TheOnlyLiving, I don't think PPs were referring specifically to JC being a dick since his accident. Yes his behaviour has changed since his brain damage but I work with someone who knew him at uni years ago and according to him he was a massive dick back then.

CutSomeRug · 08/04/2019 18:25

Yep, Princess is right, if it helps TheOnlyLivingBoy? I thought he was an arrogant tool back in his Olympic days and when he and Ben Fogle were rowing the Atlantic. I don’t think his dickishness was a new thing post 2010.

FenellaMaxwell · 08/04/2019 18:31

The head injury has served to magnify the “dickish” qualities he already possessed unfortunately. Ben Fogle has also written quite movingly on the subject in the past. What he lost was the mitigating aspects of his character. It’s sadly common with those kinds of injuries because it really isn’t his fault.

PrincessScarlett · 08/04/2019 19:17

I read the article in the DM link about his wife. Sounds like she has put up with years of terrible behaviour from JC. It's very sad and I feel sorry for his kids. Some of the comments under the article are so nasty about how she's only interested in the money, wants the spotlight on her etc. Anyone can see the whole situation is just dreadfully sad and she's done nothing but stand by JC for years.

CutSomeRug · 08/04/2019 19:54

Indeed. His selfish behaviour may be magnified by an injury but that doesn’t make it any easier to live with.
