Who is watching? Women's race at 2:15, men's race at 3:15
Go light blues Wink

Weather is set for light winds but rather wet.

disclaimer: normally I have zero interest in boat racing.

What a depressing commentary.

Well done Cambridge!

ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 14:36

Yes, I prefer it when it's neck and neck, oars clashing!

I want to give the Oxford team a massive hug.

Just missed it.
I'll sit here and drink tea until the men's race starts.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 14:37

Just thinking that the mood on this small but perfectly formed thread reflects the very sporting conduct of Boat Race competitors in most years. Maybe that’s part of its charm - that, and the all or nothing gladiatorial nature of the contest.

Butterymuffin · 07/04/2019 14:37

Commanding Cambridge performance there. Yes, long overdue that the women's race doesn't get staged somewhere else!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/04/2019 14:38

James Cracknell in the light blue boat is the only reason I’m paying attention. And awake - it’s only 7:38am here. There goes my lie in!

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 14:38

Impressive that they're being interviewed, and barely breathing hard!

Bunnybigears · 07/04/2019 14:39

I prefer a close race, I wonder why there was such a large disparity between them?

ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 14:39

I'm amazed they've got enough breath to talk after the pace they kept up.

PickleFish · 07/04/2019 14:40

Ony the Cox has a life jacket (presuming that's what is round his neck). Not that the rowers would be able to move very well with them on, and I'm sure they can all swim! Maybe it just helps keep him warm.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 14:41

Aw, so sorry for the Oxford crew, they really do work so hard for this day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:42

To be interviewed at this point takes such courage.

OP posts:
PickleFish · 07/04/2019 14:43

yes me too, it just looks so devastating, no second place in this one. all or nothing.

the Oxford rower they're just interviewing not only isn't breathing hard but not even red faced, looks totally put together!

CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 14:43

Sad, Lizzie Polgreen saying that they weren’t even interviewed in 2011. She looked really disheartened and pissed off.

ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 14:43

Totally agree with Clare Balding there - a very dignified interview.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:43

I feel a bit weepy for them.

FriarTuck · 07/04/2019 14:44

Cambridge!!!!!!
It scares me that their heart rates go up so high Shock
I'm glad they won by such a huge margin for my own sake because otherwise I find it far too (ridiculously) stressful, but I agree that a closer race is better, certainly for the losers. It must suck knowing that you're so far behind and yet you've got to keep going to the end. I'd be thinking 'sod this, let's paddle over to the bank and have a sodding cup of tea instead' - probably good that team sports aren't my thing!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:46

The heart rates are scary!

The James Cracknell thing just feels a bit wrong. I know he’s a student but he’s an ex Olympian FFS. I know he’s significantly older and post huge injury, but still, it just feels like a bit of a piss take.

Plus I think JC is a bit of a dick, so that’s probably colouring my opinion.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:46

Cup of tea time now :)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:48

I'm not sure about James Cracknell, it seems odd, but given he is a student there, they couldn't not pick him if he's one of the best.

Watching here. Dh, a rower, is away though. Not quite the same for me with no one to annoy with “which ones the stoke seat again” etc 🤣

CutSomeRug · 07/04/2019 14:49

James cracknell
James Cracknell
James Cracknell
James Cracknell

It’s all about James Cracknell

Have you heard James Cracknell is rowing?

Hmm
